Evan Tanner found dead at 37

Recommended Posts

“A body was discovered in the Palo Verde mountain area on Monday, said Lt. George Moreno from Imperial County Sheriff’s Department.

The Palo Verde mountain area is 60 miles northeast of Brawley.

Authorities have not confirmed if the body is that of missing mixed martial arts fighter, Evan Tanner, who had fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Tanner, 37, has been missing since last weekend.

Tanner’s friends from Oceanside, where Tanner resides, had been texting him without reply since Wednesday before they reported him missing on Friday.

On Sunday, a campsite was discovered in the Clapp Springs area of the Palo Verde mountains. Tanner’s motorcycle was found at the campsite. A body was found today when a sheriffs deputy was flying around the general location of the campsite.

The Imperial County deputy coroner is being flown in to retrieve and identify body.”

I remember the original story where he said that he's going so deep into the desert that he might die and that he needs to be 100% prepared because any small mistake could ruin him.

I wouldn't be even remotely shocked if it were him.

By the way, the guys posting in the comments on that thread are "oh my god the room is spinning" levels of pathetic.

Thinking about it though... what a shitty way to die. And 100% voluntarily too.

What happened? Did he just go in the woods and like, just sit there or something? Why? (Missed all of this, obviously)

I'm not huge on religion and haven't gone to church in a long, long time but it comforts me that if there's a heaven Tanner is up there hitting double-leg takedowns on anybody within sight. He's started a new adventure now.

It's sad to hear, but when you go off on your own like that into the world it can happen. I'm sure he knew the risks, but still wanted to do it. Gotta do what you want to do sometimes.

I think this is the first time UFC's had this happen, isn't it? Tanner just fought what...three/four months ago for them? I wonder if they'll do a "in memory" blurb, or put together a video or something, or an in-octagon tribute of some kind. He was a former Middleweight champion. He has a place in their history.

I'd rather like to think that if I made it into heaven I wouldn't have to worry about Evan Tanner assualting me

"Evan Tanner has left the rest of us trapped in this life and has moved on to the next stage of existence where he will undoubtedly find adventure beyond his wildest imagination.

In doing so he has left the world a little less interesting."

From Joe Rogan's blog, pretty much summing it all up.

He went out doing something important to him, so I can't really fault him. It's still a shame that he passed on at such an early age.
