A-Rod's Value

Recommended Posts

So now that A-Rod is out until god knows when, when do some of you guys feel its good to draft him?

I personally could see myself going as high as the second round.

He's going to miss the first two months so adjust to that. I think he'll be fine after he comes back.

EDIT: This doesn't count towards TSM LENT cause it's fantasy.

Doesn't really answer the question but I put god knows when because its been 10 weeks, then 10 or more weeks, then 6-8 weeks. So know one really knows.

I probably wouldn't go higher than a late round 3 or round 4 on him. You're significantly handicapping your team the first 2 months of the season by spending a high draft pick on a guy that isn't playing.

Unless you end up with a ridiculously great team, your team would have to be close to .500 by the time he comes back to have any shot at making the playoffs.

Lower body injuries can rob a play of some of their power, so he may not even produce at his typical MVP levels this season.

I will probably avoid drafting him this season in all of my leagues.. There are better options available that will produce more by the end of the season. You can get a David Wright or Evan Longoria in a round 2 or 3 and they should be just fine as a 3rd base option.

If A-Rod somehow dropped to a round 6, I would be tempted to stash him.

If it's a Dynasty/Keeper League I'd have no problem taking him in round 3.

I posted this because i had not heard of one person in my league that was into him but today I heard there is a guy thinking of taking him at the 5 overall pick. I was thinking I would take him with my 2 round pick. Doesnt sound like that even going to be a option.

David Wright was a consensus top 5 pick this year before A-Rod got hurt, this just increases his value.

ESPN has dropped A-Rod to 31 in their rankings. I did a live draft last night just out of curiosity. 10 team 5X5 roto. I had the third pick, Hanley and Pujols went 1-2, I took David Wright, took Berkman in rd. 2, Ichiro in rd. 3, then A-Rod 38th overall in rd. 4. Personally I think that's great value for a 4th rd pick that you can stash on your IR for a couple of months. Mileage varies the deeper the league gets, but in a 10 team there's enough good players out there in the draft and then free agency over the course of the year that you can afford to pick A-Rod in the 3rd or 4th and not suffer too much for it. I certainly wouldn't expect him to last to the 5th.

I also think there's enough depth at 3rd where you can get a decent player to keep the spot warm for him in the middle rounds of the draft. In addition to Wright I also got 3B/1B eligible Chris Davis 83rd overall, so at some point I may have the "problem" of having Wright, A-Rod and Davis and will be able to trade from a position of strength.
