I thought this would be a pretty good idea for anyone to share any good drinks. We have a guy here in Portland who goes by the name of Lance Mayhew, who apparently is like some sort of celebrity bartender, or at least really well known.. He runs a blog here and has an excellent recipe for hot buttered rum, which is what I'll be drinking shortly.

QUOTE
Hot Buttered Rum Batter
1 stick butter, room temp
¾ c brown sugar
¼ cup agave nectar
½ tsp cinnamon
pinch salt
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp clove

To make a hot buttered rum, simply slice a good dollop off of the batter, add to a mug with 2 oz Bacardi 8 rum, fill with hot water, stir to incorporate, and enjoy.

With the exception of the agave nectar, all the ingredients are fairly easy to find and might already be in your house. I found a good bottle of the stuff (and it's an excellent sweetener, by the way- trying to find some other recipes to make with it) for $3.50 at my local Winco Foods, which is usually a pretty cheap store. You might be able to get it at a regular old supermarket though, so good luck with that. But this is definitely worth it, and you can keep a bunch of the stuff in your fridge for a while to make at will.

Another drink I've taken a liking to lately is a good Down Low, which is a shot of bourbon at the bottom of an old fashioned glass then topped off with PBR or some other kind of cheap domestic. Also, whiskey-mountain dew, which is strangely good.

Since my chili recipe's out of the bag, I'll share my drink as well: Tootsie Roll.

Creme de cacao and OJ. That's it. You're welcome.

And here I thought there were far more many alcoholics here at TSM. In the spirit of the season, I've been enjoying whiskey nog-1 shot of whiskey (although bourbon is preferable) on the bottom of a glass filled with eggnog.

Hot Toddys are also great for the sort of cold weather most of us seem to be dealing with. Easy as hell to make, too.

Get some herbal or green tea for a bit of flavor, a shot of whiskey, pour in some lemon juice and honey, and a bit of hot water- steep the tea and then there you go. To make it even better, there's this honey liqueur which name I can't remember (but it's always next to the Jagermeister in liquor stores) and you use that instead of the honey. Gives it a really nice flavor.

EDIT: Bärenjäger or Bärenfang is the name! Here's the wiki.

I'm essentially the same, but I like a rye and ginger every now and then, plus I'll have a Tootsie Roll or Screwdriver every Christmas.

I said it over in another thread, but it bears repeating: spiked punch is great. Bigass bowl of punch, champagne, white wine, throw in some raspberries and sliced lime, and add whiskey to taste.

I really like whiskey sours too. Should figure out my own mix to that instead of buying the store-bought stuff.

I'm sure you've had jungle juice before, right? A staple of many college parties right there.

Those shark pools (as we call them here) are always a horrible idea. Just as drunk as you'd get by sticking with one type of alcohol but with more vomit and a worrrrrrse hangover!

That sounds really good. I absolutely love this one brand of rum named Sailor Jerry's that has a caramel taste to it and is 42 proof instead of 40... Sounds like it would be good in an eggnog recipe. Do you have a specific eggnog recipe you used?

A dozen eggs
Fourth of Jack Daniels
As much white rum as you want
Half a gallon of milk
Cool Whip
Sugar - if I'm not using a white rum, and my father wants some... he'll usually toss in brown sugar instead. I think it's (IMG:http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/style_images/ip.boardpr/folder_post_icons/icon8.gif) in eggnog, but a lot of people seem to like it.
Since I'm allergic to nutmeg, I use cinnamon for some extra flavor.

I know there's a lot more ways, different ingredients you could use and experiment... but I stick with the old usual boring way of making it. The one time I did have it differently was when my brother made it and got to creative. Mixed it with scotch and vodka. It was alright, I guess.

The Sailor Jerry's rum would taste really good with it. I remember last year when my father tapped into his white trash roots and tossed some butterscotch flavored schnapps in it. Wasn't too bad, but he used only a bit for the flavor of it.

While in Seattle, I went to this place called The Red Door over in the Fremont District that had this feature where you could build your own bloody mary. They hand you a pint glass with some ice and a long pour of vodka and then you go over to this bar and pick stuff out to put in it.

It was actually the first good bloody mary I'd ever had. And I think the secret was using clamato instead of tomato juice. For some reason the clam juice made everything actually taste better. Maybe that's the answer to this acidity problem I have with tomato juice. Anyways, the whole thing had:

Clamato
Banana Peppers
Pickled Asparagus
Lemon (2 twists)
2 Pickled Cocktail Onions (read: White Pearl)
and a crapload of this incredible hot sauce I found there, no idea of the brand but it was a dropper hot sauce and it had habanero, jalapeno, cayenne, and New Mexico red chile. I threw in about 5-6 drops of this in the drink and it was incredible.

My black roommate is picking the drinks tonight for our inaguration binge. Good thing he likes the same type of booze I do with the exception being his disturbing love for Innes and Gunn oak-aged beer which I don't understand.
