MMA Columns

Recommended Posts

Been toying with the idea for a while, I've got a couple kicking around from when I applied to work at The Fight Network, not sure about anybody else.

Anywho, I think it would be interesting as it would allow opinions and discussions to come about in a different way. If enough people are in we can start something up.

I'd read, probably wouldn't write except when I have free time (which is never) I would sporadically contribute, I guess.

A good idea, would be to have roundtable discussions on AIM and the like for big events. We did that at the UFC and it worked out pretty well.

I like that idea.

I also think a podcast would be fun. We could all just download the software needed, and then maybe have 2 regular people doing it and the third & fourth spot would go on a rotating basis. The regular spots would obviously go to the folks who have the spare time to make sure they can always have new content for whatever deadlines are to be met, and the other two sports could go to folks who make an appointment/deal to contribute for that particular podcast.

I did a podcast once. It fucking sucked. Yet people listened to it. I have no idea why.

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing a weekly column or something like that. I know a lot about MMA but I don't know enough about the inner working of fighting ITSELF like others here, nor do I have the inclination to maintain a weekly gig...and I don't read most columnists in MMA because I think they're morons. But I'd be willing to participate in some kind of round table thing on AIM or something. Given the sheer amount of shows in MMA these days, we'd end up doing atleast two a month.

and I promise to read everyone's stuff atleast once before I dismiss it like I do everyone else. I'm nice.

I don't think archiving my bouncer stories would work too well, as I'm not comfortable stating names on a site with a good deal of traffic like this one, making for someone pretty awkward reads (and that's before taking the alcohol into effect).

EDIT:

Solution: Charge for premium membership which allows viewing of unedited versions of the stories. Cha-ching.

YOU DON' T KNOW 'CAUSE YOU WEREN'T THERE, MAN! YOU AIN'T NEVER HAD TO KILL NO BABIES!

I guess I could substitute names, though I think it'd be kind of odd picking random names to coworkers, whether just random mundane names of Michael Scott style-assignments ("Crazy Leb," "Mikey Tits," "Sgt. Guns"). If I wanted to keep any sense of continuity and help the narrative, I'd have to give these guys some title to remember their crazy personalities by. On the other hand, I'm not sure how okay I feel with associating guys with some of the legit felonies we committed, as opposed to just random mentions in stories where I can leave them as semi-blank slates.

I'll think on it some.
