2009 TSM Poster Tournament: The Round of 32

Recommended Posts

Guest Czecherbear

In terms of how many times people got nominated, I think the copper one was the lowest, actually.

It makes plenty of sense. Two votes against me in two possible votes is 'all over the place'.

What was the other one besides the first round of this tournament, which I changed?

I counted that Scottie Pippen vote as one for Cyber Mark, Matt, because that's what you had when I first tallied it. I thought maybe he changed his name while I wasn't looking.

Hey, I should get rid of the Name Change Freeze now. If you're still in this and depend on name recognition, it's at your own risk.

I agree with the Copper Bracket theory. I was expecting Sensei to beat me, but it's a lot more lopsided than I had anticipated. Every other match in that bracket is very, very good.

Dr Venkman - I'm saddened that Dandy made it to this round. Not so much because I don't like Dandy, I do, but smitty is a dear friend and even voted for me over the mighty Kinetic. Whatever, though. Venkman wins.

Incandenza - I thought of voting for EHME as he posts and votes and everything while Inc does none of these things really. As you can see, it didn't move beyond the thought.

Byron the Bulb - You can win this bracket, Byron. And, from there, the world!

Slayer - I must admit, I was geniunely touched when Slayer says he doesn't think as low of me as I think he does. That's votin' material right there.

Snuffbox - Christ, didn't this happen last year? Or some year? I do well for a round then get totally fucking run over. Kinetic is a hell of a boarder. His only blunder was a short-lived attempt at a Stephen Colbert gimmick. Very unfortunate. I have to vote for myself because I would like to top five votes in this round. I know what the 1985 New England Patriots felt like. It hurts.

Canadian Chris - I don't think I'll ever understand why Matt Young voted against me twice. We're old friends from way back. We were even going to go to Bonnaroo together back in '06 or something. I guess I was wrong.

Bored - In the first round, I voted for Bored and for Mellow's opponent. I like to be consistent sometimes.

Edwin - This was very easy. Edwin is getting a clear path through the tournament so far.

KOAB - A crushing first round victory keeps KOAB on pace to, maybe, win the whole thing.

Smues - I was surprised that Smues didnt vote for me in the first round. But I just dont really know Mattdotcom.

Pbone - I really upset Kamala back in the day. Perhaps, one day, I will regain his trust but voting for him is not the appropriate way to do so.

Agent - I like both of them. The tiebreaker came down to Al's bizarre attempt at explaining that the Milwaukee Brewers rotation is fine because there's plenty of free agents on the market. You're still good, though.

Sensei - This is for the wonderful set-up recently in a CE thread that allowed me to rant on Barry Goldwater's vote against the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Treble - Better poster.

909 - He trumps Milky for the same reasons I voted for him in the first round. Milky's one of the best and maybe he can repeat some other year.

VX - Next round will probably be more of a challenge for one of my favorite boarders.

I nominated Broward, so I felt like I had to support him. But don't worry, this year I did remember that I had your quote in my sig for a long time!

Venkman - Tough one here, but Venk tries to clean up the retard's loft that's usually the wrestling folders, and I still like wrestling.

Incandenza - I like you, Tito... but Inc is the man I look up to here, and you got a long long long long way to go before knocking him off.

Byron - I like 'em both, but I and Byron have more in common somehow... I think.

Ortonsault - Slayer's gonna rape 'em, and I like them equally. My nigga salt could use a vote.

Kinetic - History in the making here.

Young - More potential for comedy.

Mellow - TSM's rookie of the year will make it another round before Edwin pounds him out.

Edwin - One of my favorites.

KOAB - Dandy's right... I'm always on here. I'm serious when I say I wanna be TSM's Lil Wayne. Mediocre talent who spreads himself too thin. Ego feeding blah blah.

Matt.com - Sorry, Smues. Matt's the man.

Kamala - Royalty sticks together.

Agent - Football > Baseball

Kreese - Best around

Lushus - Danny Darling all the way.

Milky - I'm pretty sure he's royalty, too.

Curry - I stick with MMA guys like the hockey guys stick together. Plus he's been bringing it in the MMA folder lately with Rudo and Tong.

Curiously, this isn't the first time I've faced LOTC... When I ran the tournament back in 2007, I faced off against him in the sweet sixteen. Link.

I'll have my vote with write-ups tomorrow/today.

2009teal2.jpg Region:

1. DrVenkman - The polite thing to do would be give Dandy a return vote, but I think this match will be closer than he thinks.

5. EHME - I realize we were at odds at the beginning of 2008, but somewhere in there I realized there was no reason to be. He still thinks there is, so here's an olive branch of a vote. Also, I'd rather face him in round 3 than Inc.

7. Cheech - Byron either strongly dislikes me or has a large soft spot (possibly hard spot) for Angle-plex. My large victory in round 1 seems to have offended him. That's besides the point - Cheech is Tremendous!

6. Ortonsault - I could have voted either way, and I'm glad Slayer can still be in such high standing with a very subdued 2008, but I'd feel like I was betraying Ortonsault with a vote against him after his comment for voting for me.

2009blue2.jpg Region:

1. Kinetic - He seems like he's patronizing me. Or very disturbed. But, very funny and will do very well in this year's tourney.

5. Chris - Nothing personal Matt, but I have to back the homeland / former POTY Tournament opponent in this round.

2. Mellow - I don't want this guy getting too sure of himself and bang a great tournament performance out of nowhere or we'll have another DrVenkman on our hands, so look for a vote against him in Round 3, because he should make it that far. Also, I'll probably still vote for him in Round 3.

6. Fazzle - A funny thing about this year's DrVenkman POTY Voting is it's the first year I've had sigs/avatars turned off for almost the entire year. I still assumed fazzle was rolling with the La Parka sig.

2009purple2.jpg Region:

1. KOAB - One of TSM's cool kids that's still into sports entertainment. That's a plus in my books. This entire bracket is KOAB's for the taking.

5. Mattdottcom - I like Smues. I really do. And had his cable company offered 24/7 before Matt's did, I might be able to justify voting for Smues over Matt as a member of the 24/7 Crew 2008. But that's my justification for voting Matt over Smues.

2. Kamala - Is this Kamala's year for a dream run? I guess that depends on how far he wants to go, but I'm backing him until at least Round 3. Maybe even beyond!

6. Agent - Mod battle! Agent vs. Battlenuts in a Wedding dress was a fun end of the year feud.

2009copper2.jpg Region:

8. CG - I like Kreese. If he wins here, I'm sure I'll be voting for him in Round 3. But in the early rounds, National Pride plays a big part, plus - unless I'm completely confused - I think he, much like C-Chris, is a former POTY opponent of mine. It was a real close match, too (unless I'm again confused with Chris).

4. treble - I'm glad Lushus is rallying for my victory here, so I'll abide by his wishes and not vote for him. I get to vote for another Canadian this way too.

7. 909 - Mr. POTY 2008 didn't vote in the first round! Posters of the Year shouldn't miss the vote, but I'm happy he voted (and for me!) this round.

3. VX - The possibility of a VX vs. Milky Round 3 match-up is pretty intriguing. Both guys are running wild, so how will TSM vote in that? I can't wait to find out.

That is such early 1990s typography, even for a 1950s period movie.

I just want to echo Bulb's sentiments that godthedog getting bounced was pretty lame. I slotted him as high as I could, but I'm bound by the will of the people.

i am the sam cooke of the poster tournament. catering only to a niche market of posters who like good posting.

i'm currently banking all my hopes on byron, because we're almost exactly the same person.

Dandy - I appreciate Venk's work on the WWE folder, however I hardly see him outside of there. It makes me worry for his sanity. Occassionally I see him venture into the NHB, but over all he's a WWE Folder guy. That's cool, its his baby and all. However, Dandy is an over all boarder, and has some good Sports knowledge that he shares without being egotistical about it.

EHME - If he didn't change his name so often, I'd probably be able to remember his posts past the last few months. However, his latest incarnation and posts have been ok. Yet, for as little as I can truly remember of EHME's posts (due to constant name changing) I can't even picture who Incandenza might be to even find one of their posts.

Cheech - Keeps things simple and ever going, think I've probably seen a post of his in every part of the board, so he's 'boarding hard'.

Slayer - Ortonsault is taking this way too seriously and his self pimping posts smell of someone who's desperate. No one in their right mind should be desperate to win TSM Poster of the Year... should they? Slayer has some killer AVs in rotation, and keeps the balance between shit eating posts, humor, musical insight and good general posting.

Kinetic - Sticking with my first round pick into the second round. Snuffbox seems to have been flying under the radar last year, as while I don't recognize him, I kind of remember some of the posts he made looking back at them - and he's been a member since 02.

Matt Young - Its a hard choice to make, both guys are pretty regulars down in the Computer Games section and the Movie Section, which are probably the two sections of the board I go to the most. I've got to go with Matt Young on this one again though, nothing against CanadianChris though just a bad match up. Matt is a good guy, posts some funny shit and is happy to let people take the piss out of him (at least from what I've seen) which isn't a bad thing. Again, Matt does have that deep seated 'I'm going to rape your Daughter voice', which you can't vote against... you know, incase he rapes your Daughter. Seriously though, the guy is a friendly dude, always wishing you and your team well if you talk to him on xboxlive or whatever. I'll try and get that English Football thread going for the Rules of Fifa soon.

Bored - I'm glad he got through the 2nd round, as to be honest the guy is a great Boarder. Owe him a lot for getting me into College Football due to his College Football thread. The guy is one of the main aspects the Sports Folder does so well. Mellow seems a good guy, but I just haven't really paid that much attention to what he's posted. That's not his fault, that's my own. I'll try and make an effort this year, I swear!

Fazzle - I nominated the guy, and even though I voted against him last round (he was up against Andrew TS) I'll vote for him this one. He pops up with some good posts and doesn't seem to rock the boat, which is something of a rare thing at times. Besides, he did have that LA Parka sig for a good few months, which cracked me up.

KOAB - I voted for him the 1st round with a real shit reason for giving him a vote, but the truth is; he's a funny guy and does seem to be everywhere across the board. Usually has the best pictures posted up on 'Pictures I like'.

Smues - Its a real tough choice, Smues, a mod, against MattDotCom probably best newcomer... oh wait he's not a newcomer, he's been here since 2002. Only just really noticed the guy though, but that isn't saying much as people have probably only just noticed me too. I was going to go with MattDotCom, seems a good guy but Smues is Smues and doesn't have some strange Vampire thing AV. Saying that though, I have enjoyed MattDotCom's WWE posts, he does seem to kinda give a shit without shitting on the whole thing.

King Kamala - Easy one for me. He's one of the reasons, along with Venk, that the WWE folder has started to improve. He's also tried various ways to get the general wrestling folder back on track. Seems like a good guy, that enjoys his wrestling and won't have anyone take it away from him.

AoO - Good boarder that seems to be in most of the folders around the board and offers some good input if people ask for it. Al Keiper is a good guy, but I think I've only ever really seen him post in the Sports folder, and then maybe twice a year in the WWE folder. His posts are good, but my vote goes with AoO just since I've generally seen more of him around the whole of the board and enjoyed his posts more.

S.J. Kreese - Another tough one as I like both guys. While some people will probably take it as a negative, as it was ANOTHER FUCKING DRAFT THREAD ARRRGH, I enjoyed the Actors Draft.

Treble

909 - Another guy that gets about the board and usually keeps things going. Minus points for being a Liverpool supporter, but plus points for being an American that enjoys Football, without making it seem quirky.

Lord of the Curry - Ergh real tough one, VX and Lord of the Curry are both good guys, and good posters. If I'm honest this one was a coin flip.

Venk

Inc

Byron

Ortonsault

Fairly easy bracket. I don't interact with either Venk or Dandy too much. I've never had to make Incandenza my bitch, so he gets that vote, Byron is either very verbose or not at all, and I appreciate extremity. I voted against Slayer to prevent a repeat winner.

Kinetic

Matt

Bored

Edwin

Another easy bracket. 'Tic and Ed are e-pals, and Matt has personality. Bored/Meller was a tough pick, but I owe Bored one for introducing me to the Dotel picture. It hasn't lost a single fleck of its shine, not matter how much it's been posted.

KOAB

Smues

pbone

Agent

How does everyone pronounce KOAB? Ko-Ab? Kobe? I pronounce it like "Cob" with a long O. I pronounce Smues smyooze. pbone is pronounce lead-one.

Kreese

Treble

Milky

VX

A little tougher here. Went with my gut.

1. Venkman- He boards hard.

4. Incandenza- EHME didn't vote for me.

7. Cheech- I like him a lot.

3. Slayer

9. Snuffbox- Kinetic didn't vote for me. But I understand this time.

5. CanadianChris is one of my favorite posters, if not my favorite poster.

2. Mellow- I helped him with the wrestling draft. I like Bored though.

3. Edwin

9. Smartly Pretty is getting destroyed. Padding stats.

13. Smues- BRACKET BUSTER, SENSATIONAL, A REAL PTP'ER!

I really don't know. Coin flip says....pbone.

Fuck, I have to choose? I'll go with Al.

8. I'll help out CG.

4. Treble- BL doesn't have the fire and the passion.

7. Obviously I'm voting for myself.

3. And I'll vote for VX too.

Dr. Venkman: Nothing against Dandy, but Venkman has been bringing it over the past few months.

EHME: Even if you stayed sober for only 3 days, you're still alright.

Cheech: I like Byron, but Cheech holds up baseball discussions.

Slayer: *high five*

Snuffbox: Kinetic looks to win this, so I'm going to give Snuff some votes. He's cool.

CanadianChris: Don't Bronco this up.

Mellow: Sleeper pick to go pretty far.

Edwin MacPhisto: A winner.

KOAB: Like Smartly Pretty, but KOAB is my boi.

MattDotCom: I liked Smues, but you didn't vote for me! Plus Mattdotcom is good.

PBone: Diamond in the rough.

Alkeiper: Another tough one.

Kreese: I like your avatar.

Treble: Quality over quantity.

Milky: Going all the way again?

Vitamin X: TSM's personal chef.

Venkman- Glad to see him coming out so strong as of late.

Incandenza- EHME got kind of a softball in the first round, and while I don't mind the guy as much anymore, it's kind of hard putting him over Inc there.

Cheech- A very, very tough call to make. I'm still sticking with the native guys here.. speaking of which, I don't remember anything on TSM that quite inspires as much provinciality as the poster tournament. Seems like everyone who is voting against me is doing so because they're Canadian or they're a wrestling/MMA folder guy. At least here, while I'm going for the (relatively) hometown guy, it's a good pick but it's close because I really like Byron and think he deserves to win one of these sometime down the road.

Slayer- The New England Patriots of TSM Poster Tournaments. He hasn't just won once before, for those keeping score we had a Poster Tourney over at the Pit back when it first started and it was much more TSM-friendly and Slayer-Czech ended up being the final, with Slayer taking the top prize there. So, he's technically going for his third award here. That said, I still have difficulty voting Somali Pirate man over the guy who helped me pass my economics class.

Kinetic- Oh this was also a very, very tough call to make. Kinetic is still boarding hard in this very thread while snuff is one of my favorite boarders and vice versa. I can't avoid hurt feelings here, but I figure snuffy will understand more than fragile, tender Kinetic, whom I have already betrayed once in the past year.

Matt Young- You have to give credit to a guy who has made it this far as a poster. Also, since he voted against me as a Canadian vote, consider this my American vote.

Mellow- Here's a guy who's supported me for a while and a dark horse for his bracket. Bob Ross will beat Oakland A's guy for now, only because of the recent pic.

Edwin- Setting up a fabled Kinetic-Edwin matchup would make the Elite Eight part of the tournament pretty exciting. I like fazzle (and so does La Parka) but Edwin needs some love here. Question is, I wonder if he won if he would care?

KOAB- Even with the BACKSTABBIN' MMA vote, I'll still vote for him in a pretty close one.

Smues- Yes to Alaska, no to guy I don't know. Maybe Mattdotcom will enter our hearts one day, but for now, Smues wins.

Pbone- Easy. We like bikes, and the Byron-Pbone match I was hoping for probably isn't going to happen. This a pretty interesting match, but I'll go with pbone here since I know him a bit better than Kamala.

Agent- It's been said before, football > baseball, and food might just be > porn, too.

Kreese- I feel terrible about this, since CG broke from his Canadian contingency to reach out and help me this round, and I really like him as a poster. That said, Kreese was a part of some of the most fun chats this year and drove those Amy Juergens chats of 2008. Both are good guys, hard to vote one way or another.

Treble- He wears a tie to the board. What does Black Lushus wear? I don't know if we want to know.

909- It was hard to vote against Milky last round, but I'm doing it here because 909 is a worthy opponent and Milky just won last year. Pretty tough round here, though.

VX- Because LotC already conceded to me!

I didn't realize this was happening at the moment. Completely missed it in the top part of the board. Work is dull as shit today, so I think, for the first time, I'm going to vote in one of these here poster tournaments.

Dandy - This dude is coldblooded. I have to vote for him or he'll reveal the controversial information he recently learned about me.

Inc - Impressive member. Anatomically, I mean.

Byron - From the day I saw that Neutral Milk Hotel avatar, I knew I could count on him to join me in overanalytical, dangerously unironic appreciation of various rap artists, both good and awful.

Ortonsault - Slayer, while a beautiful creature, is hitched to The Enemy. Hokies I shall never abide.

Kinetic - I kind of want him to win so he can show the trophy to people at bars in his new home, thus making friends.

Canadian Chris - Subtle with a zinger, and deadly in college football pick-ems.

Bored - Bored clearly reads all the same semi-irreverent and highly analytical sports blogs I do, but always seems to get to them an hour or two ahead of me. Given the amount of time he's burned over the past several years maintaining the CFB pick-em, it would be nearly impossible for me to vote anyone over him on a sheer "value I have received from TSM" level.

Me - Except maybe me! We'll see.

KOAB - This was very difficult. It felt like drowning a son.

Mattdotcom - Cutting analysis, and actually lives in the lower 48 to the best of my knowledge. Begone, outlander.

Pbone - Another child-murder. 2009 TSM Poster Tournament, though art cruel. Despite his glorious check on obsessive indierock isolation in music-land, I have never encouraged Kamala to cheat on his girlfriend, so I probably owe Parker this one.

Agent - NFL > MLB.

Kreese - CG's endless cycle of staffing retail electronics stores leaves me confused and hurting.

Treble - Would likely be the "and Treble as 'Treble'" towards the end of the opening credits in the film version.

Milky - My nigga indeed.

VX - Poster tournament needs more west coast mods.

Question is, I wonder if he won if he would care?

Nope! Still kinda fun, though.

Dr. Venkman- Toughest choice of the round as I consider these two my best board buddies. Like picking between children for pete's sake! I picked Venkman only because he's slightly more consistent. I still love you Dandy!

EHME- Don't think I'd ever pick EHME over Incadenza but Inc really hasn't been around enough this year for me to vote him too far into a Best Poster tournament. This is another step in the healing process after the King Kamala-EHME minor feud of '07 as well.

Cheech- Five tool grouch.

Slayer- Can't say I really know Ortonsault all that well other than being a proponent of Leena. I'll give the edge to the TSM Legend.

Kinetic- I apologize to snuffbox. If I advance to the next round, I hope he'll consider voting for me. However, I have to give the edge to Kinetic in this case because it's his year.

CanadianChris- I like Matt Young but I can't say he doesn't come off as a bit of a dope at times. Plus I don't want to upset the Canadian Contingent I like to think of myself as a honorary member of.

Mellowblissful-Breakout poster of '08. Damn fine contributor to General Wrestling as well.

Edwin MacPhisto- Possibly my favorite Music Folder regular...well back when that forum was still active enough to have regulars.

KOAB-Kings got to stick together

Smues: Mattdotcom is another recent "breakout poster" (though he's been here for about as long as I have) but I got to go with Smues if only because whenever I read his posts I hear Tony Kornheiser's voice.

King Kamala- I imagine I'll have the same trajectory this year that I did last year. Cruise to an easy 1st round victory, narrowly avoid the upset in the 2nd round, only to be trounced in the 3rd round. Oh well. I can't make a compelling argument for me being a better poster than alkeiper or Agent. I'll just be happy to get by this round because pbone is a tough, tough matchup.

Agent of Oblivion- 2nd toughest matchup of the round. Two of the most valuable contributors to the board. I have to give the edge to Agent since he's a bit more well-rounded.

Sensei John Kreese: Like CanadianGuitarist a lot but Sensei John Kresse deserves to go far this year.

Treble: The tie post narrowly edges him over Lushus. Again, both are good contributors.

Milky: Royalty sticks together usually but I can't go against my man Milkhawk and King changed his name to 909.

Vitamin X: The glue of the food folder.
