Oh lord. I bought an old rental tape of this some years ago from a store that was going out of business. The main event being somewhat decent saves it from those "Worst PPVs ever" lists. Otherwise seeing Roma deep six his own career is the most notable thing on this show.

Good god, did this show ever suck. Glad I didn't have to pay to see it. It got so bad, that I started doing other stuff and just let the dvd record. The crowd seemed to pop only for the Nasty Boys' apparant title win (which was marred by the Dusty Finish)

The one highlight may be Heenan's commentary. Line of the night during Hogan-Vader (which was the only match that was even remotely entertaining outside of the Sting/Savage tag match) "He's (Vader) gonna hit him so hard on the head, his hair will grow" Plus I would be remiss in not mentioning the appearance at ringside of the WWF super fan Vlad. Also two guys in the front row of the hard camera side, dressed as a Harlem Heat member, and Meng (the bodguard version-complete with Black suit shirt, white tie, and glasses)

What did Roma do wrong anyway? Was it too much showboating? Playing to the crowd? (which actually treated him as the face, not surprisingly)

And why wouldn't Vader have kicked Flair's ass for costing him the match?

I think Flair was still in "retirement" at that point so he might not have been on TV much. He showed up in drag at the next PPV, Uncensored. This PPV is worse than that Uncensored, which is at least hilariously bad.

Roma basically went against the booking of the match. He was supposed to be there to make Wright look good, put him over, etc. Instead he dominated the match, humiliated Wright, and the ref actually counts 3 even though Roma might have kicked out.

Saw that Roma match for the first time in years. Yeah, Roma made him look bad, didn't cooperate with him on moves (like that hiptoss) and could have hurt him. The crowd loved it though.

Watching Roma-Wright on DailyMotion and boy The Brain sounds hammered on commentary. I remember reading about him being drunk at some WCW shows but it's really kind of noticeable here. And it's only the opening match.

If you ever want to listen to a match where the Brain was hammered, watch the Flair/Guerrero match on the latest Eddie Guerrero DVD. He's completely smashed and Tony and Dusty have to work off him. That was Road Wild 96, the night NWO Hogan won the WCW title.

I watched this a week or two ago. I thought Paul Roma was great, but this event was a low point for WCW. The Bash at the Beach from the same year was worse though. I was dissappointed to see that they included the Lifeguard match on the Savage DVD.
