BUTT
"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" I've heard "Respect" too many damn times in my life.
"A Day in the Life" I never liked Creedence or their expansive catalog of identical songs. No way
"God Only Knows" Forever linked with Kevin and Winnie's breakup at the science museum. Why not
"Like a Rolling Stone" Fuck "Gimme Shelter" that shit blows.
Smues

GROUP A

"Respect" by Aretha Franklin Toughest pick of the round, but the vote goes to Aretha.
vs
"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye

GROUP B

"Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival I wish a Beatles song I liked had made it this far.
vs
"A Day in the Life" by The Beatles -

GROUP C

"My Generation" by The Who -
vs
"God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys Easy choice.

GROUP D

"Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan Why not
vs
"Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH!
"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye - Q: Would this have gotten so far if California Raisins commercials weren't an ever-present staple of our collective youths? Food for thought.
"A Day in the Life" by The Beatles - "Fortunate Son" is cool but it's just totally outclassed here.

"God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys

GROUP A

"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye. Marvin's really awesome and there's a lot more going on in this one than in "Respect."

GROUP B

"A Day in the Life" by The Beatles. It's gonna be this vs. God Only Knows for the win, which is pretty unsurprising, I think.

GROUP C

"God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys

GROUP D

"Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan. "Gimme Shelter" actually is just an okay Stones song in my book. The "it's just a shot away" lady vocals get pretty old by the 7th or so time around.

Please don't vote against 'Like a Rolling Stone' people! It's the last truly deserving song left.

'I Heard it Through the Grapevine' - Still a good song musically even if I'm not too big on it.
'A Day in the Life' - But really, 'Hey Jude' is much better.
'God Only Knows' - Brian Wilson's songwriting ages well like a fine wine, Pete Townsend's just becomes stale like any cheap lager.
'Like a Rolling Stone' - Probably is the Greatest Song left.

you think so? i've figured since before the tournament even started that it was going to be "day in the life" vs. "like a rolling stone" in the finals.

You high.

And yeah, I feel like "God Only Knows" will edge Bob, but ol' Zim did dominate, so mayhaps not. If I had had to make a shortlist of the 5 most likely winners at the outset, those three would have definitely been on it, though.

GROUP A

"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye - Neither song is really my cup of tea, but I've never cared for Aretha at all.

GROUP B

"A Day in the Life" by The Beatles - This is the best song left in the tourney and should win convincingly. Best song by the definitive band of the '60s.

GROUP C

"God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys - Fairly easy choice. The Who are great; "My Generation" however, is not.

GROUP D

"Gimme Shelter" by Rolling Stones - I love Dylan and the Stones, but I don't find "Like A Rolling Stone" to be as iconic as some make it out to be.

What a lousy group of songs to make it to the finals. Nothing adventurous whatsoever.

When I get to the final 4 should I do a poll with those 4 songs, or keep it tournament like?

Yeah, I forgot about 'God Only Knows' when I said that.
Youth N Asia
I'll likely do the last 4 songs as a poll since the drop off for voting has been pretty big in this round.

I'm calling the round Thursday
