    The 'Unwritten' rules of WWE

I'm with diamonddust. I thought we were going to discuss all the things high school rules that get you backstage heat.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Then why does the original King of the Ring poster have a picture of Taker and Ahmed on it?

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Quick WWF question. When Ahmed joined the Nation of Domination wasn't he supposed to face the Undertaker at King of the Ring 97 and not Farooq? Then the famous Ahmed injury bug reared it's ugly head didn't it?

Was Chris Kreski's run really that great?

The Austin/Bret street fight RAW has to be one of my favorite RAWs ever. I wish I could have a copy of it to watch over and over again.

    NBA Discussion

Those are the two main reasons I've lost interest in the NBA at the moment (the Lakers and Cavs dominance) combined with the Celtics downswing.

    Xbox 360

So as I documented earlier in the "comments that don't warrant a thread" thread I just got done with a long long bout with Lost Odyssey where I got to the end, realized I was bored to tears and just playing to complete the game, and quit. BAM. 6 months I could've been playing games gone. So I have a lot of catching up to do. I've been messing around with the Smash Bro's Brawl story mode, but now I'm ready for some serious gaming. But, I don't know what to play next. So here's my X-Box 360 "que": -Gears of War 2 -Prince of Persia -Fable 2 -GTA 4 -RE 5 -Street Fighter 4 -Halo Wars -Fallout 3 What should I play next? Should I get the quickest to complete out of the way? OR just go for the best and the most fun right out of the gate? What should I play next?

    The Sweet 16 & Elite 8 Thread

I remember to start the year everyone said UNC was the best team and would almost certainly win the title. But, they had some injuries and lost a few and they were no longer a sexy pick. Now tournament time has rolled around and everyone is healthy. So we're back with the team we all thought would be the best at the beginning. I'm willing to bet they do win it all.

    The Sweet 16 & Elite 8 Thread

Well I knew OU would screw it up at some point. I didn't think they'd actually make it this far.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Yeah I got the RAW 15th Anniversary DVD. When Vader kills Gorilla Monsoon they looked like they were in a bigger version of the Manhattan Center. -Didn't they get to the point where they were filming 4 RAWs at a time? How did marks not become smart when they would say "Next week this match will happen!" or "He'll return in 2 weeks!" and suddenly he's back in two hours or the match is happening in an hour? -I was thrown off by how long the Manhattan Center tapings went on because of the fact that some of those places look like it. But, I noticed that after they moved out of the Manhattan Center they went to some really small arenas, then in 96 they moved into some even smaller "warehouse" arenas. -When did RAW become 2 hours? 97? Because I always wondered why we never got a RAW in OKC until 97. I used to think it was because the Cox Center, which holds 12,000, was too small (the Ford Center which I believe holds close to 20 wasn't built yet, and it hosted a PPV in 05 or 06) but now I realize that it was too big for RAW! They'd have had to have done RAW at the Lloyd Noble Center where OU plays basketball! That'd be more there size for the time. -But seriously, where did they dig up some of these tiny arenas? I mean what are these places used for? They seem too small to even run a college basketball game in, and you know they damn sure weren't used for any pro sports. -They seemed to run in small arenas back then for In Your House. I mean some of the arenas they run RAW in these days are bigger than the arenas they used for PPVs back then aren't they?

Was Chris Kreski's run really that great?

See maybe I'm weird. 98 was fun and kept me interested. But, after 96(where i was still a hardcore mark, but could tell some of the stuff i was watching was crappy) I think 97 is what really got me going strong. Something about the Hart Foundation/Everyone Else feud just grabbed me.

What ended the Late 90's Pro Wrestling Boom?

Well I for one always liked decent length title runs. That ended during the Russo era as did real long TV matches. During 2000 it felt like titles meant more again and it felt like matches on TV were getting longer. It felt like some of the damage Russo had done was being repaired. Then when the Invasion started there were 100 different titles and it felt like they all got passed around like a doobie at a Led Zeppelin concert. And TV matches just got shorter and shorter. And there seemed to be less and less quality angles and things felt slapped together. Then came 2002 post-Invasion and I felt like everything was slapped together and nothing ever had any real build to it. That's when my love started to die before it was killed in 04. Yeah there were shorter matches and title merry-go-round during the Russo era but they did have a lot of the shock TV and shock value to keep people interested. The Invasion and post-Invasion really didn't have any of that for me. Has any of this been repaired in the 5 years since I've watched? I know they have longer TV matches now, but titles still seem to be hotshotted and mean nothing in the long run. A lot of matches and angles still feel slapped together. Like I said. I was a fan for so long that I keep going "What have I missed out on?" And I consider buying PPV DVDs and getting back into it but what I see from the main event level (it's hard to study the midcard after the fact for some reason) scares me away. They need a star or angle that's going to take jaded fans and drag them back in and not scare them off. I feel an angle like that will also bring in new fans as well and recreate the boom.

What ended the Late 90's Pro Wrestling Boom?

Well here's the thing. Is wrestling right now creating new fans or are old ones still hanging on? Like ratings and buyrates drop as the old hanger-ons drop off. Or are a lot of those people gone and new fans come and go too quickly? You gotta think they aren't making a ton of new fans. I know I quit watching around June 2004. I don't know why, I just got tired of the same old same old and quit. I have tried to come back and catch up on what I missed every year or so and then I just don't like what I'm watching and I quit again. Like right now I'm getting hardcore into the DVDs and trying to figure out everything I've missed since June 2004, but the more I'm finding out the more I'm not liking. I still like older stuff, but I really started disliking it in 2002 but just stayed on out of habit until 2004. And what has happened over the past 5 years since I stopped watching doesn't exactly grab me nor does what's happening right now. That brings me to another point. Did I finally grow out of wrestling? Are the angles that happened between 2002-2009 really so much different than what happened in the 17 years previous that I watched? Is it really so much different at it's core? Or did I grow out of it? How many fans are growing out of it? And if the thing is that I grew out of it and many other fans have, then is it possible for WWE to grow us back into it? Or do they need to keep going after new fans as much as possible?

    LOST

Ok ok. I understand now. I don't know why I wasn't thinking of it like that. All this "What happened, happened" stuff is getting too much into destiny and no free-will. I keep wondering if the end of the show is going to be somebody exercising free-will for the first time and breaking with the whole destiny stuff.

    LOST

That... doesn't even make sense. They crashed on the island three years ago, and only afterwards did they have wacky Dr. Who adventures; why would they remember when they were younger about what their older selves did? This isn't Slaughterhouse Five here, it's basic Terminator time-jumping. Well we're saying Ben remembers the Losties when they crash because he met them when he was a child right? So if he remembers that after they crash (since it's already happened) then why can't the Losties remember being on the island and all the stuff about the Dharma Initiative? I mean I understand if you affect something in the past then it comes to you now as a dream. That made sense. But, if that were the case then Ben would not remember the Losties when they crashed like was suggested earlier. If Ben remembers the Losties from when he was a child when they crashed and is able to use that against them then they should also remember having been at the island. Well it makes sense in my head.

    LOST

Ok, but if everything in 1977 has happened then how the heck do the Losties not remember the Dharma and the island when they crash? Man I hate time travel. There's so many different ways you can do it. Alternate timelines, being able to change the past, constantly being in a timeloop where everything has already happened no matter what you do, not being able to affect time, time being like a record and you're just along for the ride, time being linear, time being non-linear. It's just crazy. And we really truly don't know which of these the Losties are in.

    The MagicJack Offseason Bowl

Man this Florida/Tennessee stuff is getting better than the Spurrier/Fulmer days. They haven't even played a game yet under Kiffin and already the hate is about to explode! Awesome.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

Man, ever since getting married and getting a real job I feel like my gaming time has gone out the window. When I was in Dodge City working I was able to play games a lot. I ran through Paper Mario, Half Life 2, Lost Planet, Guitar Hero 3, Oblivion and Zelda Twighlight Princess in the 9 months I was there. Plus I fed my addiction to NCAA football while there too. But since moving back to Oklahoma and getting a job where I had to be up real early? Yeah, no time at all. I've been back in Oklahoma for nearly a year and have only played one game in that time: Lost Odyssey. And I got to the end and didn't finish it. Well I say one game, but I also fed my NCAA football addiction. But, since I've decided my love for time consuming turn-based RPGs is a thing of the past and just nostalgia now I think I may have more time to game. However, I have quite a list in front of me. I got Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Galaxy and Gears of War 2 for Christmas. I want to beat them all (i'm such a completist. it takes a lot to make me quit, like extreme boredom in Lost Odyssey's case) and then I also want to play and/or beat: Fable 2, Fallout 3, GTA 4, Resident Evil 5, Halo Wars, Street Figher 4, and Prince of Persia. And there's probably others. Damn that's quite a list. I'm going to need to get a divorce and quit my job. Quick question on Fable 2, if you don't get online or download content is it worth it?
  21. Hey dudes. On March 12 I'm coming to Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando for my honeymoon. I know our vacation package includes a couple of passes to Universal Studios so I have that covered. But, beyond going there, shopping and laying on the beach I don't know what else to do in the area. Does anybody have any suggestions? Suggestions on places to eat? Fun things to do? Anybody want to hang out one of the days? Anything? I'll be there from March 12-20.

Any TSMers in the Ft. Lauderdale/Orlando area?

Maybe I'll stick to the Ft. Lauderdale area and then go to Orlando when I'm supposed to......... Has anyone ever flown standby before? My father-in-law got us standby tickets since he's an airline employee. We're leaving Thursday morning, and hopefully we get on the first flight! We do have to dress nice though since we're considered "airline employees" while flying.
  23. Ok guys, I didn't see a CTDWAT so I'm going to just kind of throw this in here. If it doesn't belong then any mod can feel free to throw it in a different thread. It is sort of WWE General Discussion. As I mentioned in the WWE DVD thread I haven't really watched wrestling since JBL first won the world title. Yeah I know, that's a long time ago. The only events I've seen since then are Royal Rumble 07, No Way Out 07, Wrestlemania 23 and Backlash 07 because of WWE 24/7. I quit watching because I hated the brand extension, title switches and storylines. But, recently I've gotten back into wrestling and am trying to catch up on what I missed in WWE over these past 4 years or so. I do regret not watching Edge and Orton's rises to prominence (especially Edge) and some of the great matches Cena had as champion. While I was watching Edge was a midcarder, so it's kind of weird to see him constantly at the top of the company when you haven't been paying attention. So if anybody can PM me a list of PPVs between the night JBL won the title to now that might be worth checking out I'd really really appreciate it. Anybody at all. I just want to see some good wrestling and try to catch up a bit on what I missed. Anyone? Bueller? I know I won't catch up on every midcarder or midcard feud that has run through the WWE. I look through the past few years and see guys like Mordecai or Deuce and Domino and go "What the hell was the deal with these guys?" There's a ton of wrestlers and midcarders that have come in (and gone) since 04 that I'm completely lost on. lol

TSM Call to Action Campaign 2009

Yeah, I was going to get the One Night Stand and Wrestlemanias. What about the Rumbles I've missed? 05, 06 and 08? I watched 07 and really really enjoyed it. I'm trying to pinpoint my last WWE PPV and the last time I watched and I think it was around Judgement Day 04. Weird, long time for someone that used to not ever miss a RAW. I know the Survivor Series and Summerslams (the other 2 of the original big 4) are kind of hit and miss over this time period, but I can't remember a Rumble I've ever openly hated. There's been some worse than others, but for the most part I really enjoy the PPV.

TSM Call to Action Campaign 2009

No clue what happened to my response to this. Yes I have been using wiki to study up on title histories, main event feuds and PPV results. However, wikipedia does not tell me what PPVs had good matches or what PPVs were quality. Only a person who's watched it could tell me that. That's more what I was asking for. The other stuff about not knowing who the hell has come and gone and been fired was just random musing. What I was asking for is what PPVs were good or not. Wiki can't answer that.
