OAO Raw Thread for September 10

Why did Venis leave? Nothing but the last clue excluded him.
  2. I doubt it. Why would they want to make a DVD and sink money into a DVD bashing a guy who killed his family. Sure they made a DVD about Warrior being an idiot, and such, but this would be a DVD about a guy who killed him family. I really don't see it happening at all. It seems like, if only for legal reasons, they're just going to stay away from Benoit.
  3. I kind of wish we had gotten to see this angle through to the end. As much as I hated the angle, I'd rather have just come off as a whiney bitch than been proven "right", whatever that means. As a sidenote, does anyone have any idea how it was supposed to end?
  4. I don't know, Torrie's been looking kind of big lately. And I'm not casting judgment on anyone, but I feel horrible for all three of them regardless of what happened. Obviously, worst for his son, but I felt that way before any of the details came out. I personally don't feel it's my place to pass judgment on a situation like this. I just feel horrible for what happened, I feel horrible that three people are now dead, and that one man, for whatever reason, took the lives of two of the most important people in his life(if not his wife, then certainly his son). It's just a horrible situation throughout and I thought I'd throw my two cents in.
  5. This is so horrible. I'm not even thinking about how they're going to handle it, I'm just really upset. Benoit was my absolute favorite and I was visibly shaking when I read this. I wanted to believe it was fake, but I know it's not. RIP to him and his family.

  7. "As lead federal investigator Daniel Beck continues his investigation into the fiery demise of WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon, WWE.com turns to our fans to find out who they think was responsible for the heinous crime. Over the past several days, it has become clear that practically anybody who has ever come in contact with Mr. McMahon is a suspect. Was it a WWE Superstar? Could it have been a former Superstar? Or maybe an old promoter McMahon put out of business? Was it a WWE employee? Or maybe somebody outside of sports-entertainment altogether? Here's your chance to tell us who you think is responsible for Mr. McMahon's limo explosion." I thought it'd be fun to post our theories and send them in. Here's mine: I suspect the Soviets were involved to bring prestige back to mother Russia. Vince always had a habit of holding back Russian talent. Nikolai Volkoff was degraded as a second or third rate member of the Million Dollar Corporation in 1994. Here is a man who was to Russia what Guantanamo Bay is to the US. More recently, Santino Marella, born with Italian ancestry to my knowledge portrayed a Russian character in OVW. This led many true reds to believe he had gone to their side, only to have him debut in the World Wrestling Club(WWC-I refuse to call it WWE, but don't want to get sued and Club is a synonym for Federation, more or less) as an Italian again. This led many on that side to believe Santino was at best insincere toward the Soviet cause and at best a spy. Let's not forget Zangief back in the early 1990's. The man had achieved international fame as a rugged bear wrestler and any promoter would've been a fool not to sign him. It seemed sure he would appear on our WWC screens anytime soon. Instead, Vince turned the other cheek(but not in a good way) and Zangief was forced to sign with Capcom under their Street Fighter 2 brand. Who can forget the Sting hit "The Russians" which many saw as insensitive in that it portrayed the Soviets as actual human beings(instead of the orc-like savages they truly are). Despite being a hit and the suspicion that it would become the official theme song of the Royal Rumble, Vince opted to use in house music. A coincidence? I think not. How about Das Wunderkind Alex Wright? He was making a big stink in mid-90's WCW at the age of thirteen and big things were expected of this dancing fool and german suplexing machine. But then, he comes in as Berlin(I will use no alternate spelling for copyright purposes). Obviously, he was German and not Russian, but as his name implies, he supported the Wall(the man and the divider). This means he was certainly in league with the Soviets. Vince refused to sign such a superstar. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at this...have you noticed Vince's tendency not to push Japanese superstars like Tajiri, Ultimo Dragon, and Val Venis? Well, how far is Japan from Russia? I rest my case. Vince had it coming after his endless racism towards our red neighbors to the east....or west depending on how you go there. As for who actually done it. That would have to be none other than Howard Finkel, or Dmitri Finklevich as his parents Boris and Natasha named him. While I am a capitalist true and blue, Vince took his hatred of communists too far. And as history shows, if you hate on communists, they'll blow up your white limo two nights before it's shown on tv and then splice it together with live footage. If nothing else, it'll show the capabilities of their editing staff. Either way, RIP('Em<~~like No Holds Barred the movie) Vincent Kennedy Edgar Hoover McMen. We love you and know you're keeping an eye on us from that Gig in the Sky(copyright). Mwa, XOXO, lolz.

    Rebooking the Wrestlemanias

I think the main thing with 9 is it doesn't really live up to the Wrestlemania reputation. I know a lot of them don't. I just picked that one out because I've probably watched it the most.

    Rebooking the Wrestlemanias

So, as a young mark(I was like 7), I watched Wrestlemania 9 a lot and enjoyed the atmosphere. I never realized how terrible it was until I got older and actually could appreciate match quality and so it somewhat saddened me to come to this realization. But last night, I was reading the wrestlecrap review on it and it got me to thinking as to whether or not the card had to be terrible. Did they not have the roster at all or was it just poorly executed? So, since I have no life, I've decided to rebook WM9 my way and invite anyone else interested to do the same. You can change any storylines leading up to it as you see fit and don't have to worry about aftermath and such, just make it a card you'd like for the one day. The only real rule is that you have to use people who were employed at the time, so for instance, while I could be wrong, I think Flair was gone by WM9 and I will not be using him. Anywho, here goes: 1) WWF Intercontinental Championship: Shawn Michaels© vs. Marty Jannetty -Since the RR was a tainted finish and I could watch these two go at it all day, I think it'd be a solid opener. There could be an added stipulation of "no one allowed at ringside" or whatever. Winner: Marty picks up the IC title -I think it flows well into their feud that spring. They could shoot the title back and forth. 2) Headshrinkers vs. the Natural Disasters -I was always a huge ND mark, but they were past their prime as a team at this point, so they could give the monster team rub Winner: Headshrinkers 3) Tito Santana vs. Rick Martel -I didn't want to leave Tito off the card since he technically beat Papa Shango on the preshow and ended his WM career with a win which he more than deserved. It could be billed as Tito's farewell match and they could play up the history between the two. Winner: Tito Santana 4) Luna Vachon vs. Sensational Sherri -They could've established Luna as a legit threat here for either her role as Bam Bam's valet or a possible women's division revival. I'd say glorified squash, but what would be there I think would have the potential to be decent with these two. Winner: Luna Vachon 5) Yokozuna vs. Crush -I realize this likely would've been awful, but it might've actually got the crowd going(who had low expectations in 93 for wrestling anyway). Crush was being pushed as this big powerhouse and there could be the tease of him slamming Yoko or whatever. I say a Yoko win with perhaps some underhanded tactics from Fuji just because I hate DQ finishes, but no real reason to make either guy look bad. Winner: Yokozuna 6) WWF Tag Team Championship: Money Inc.© vs. the Steiner Brothers -This would have saved the workrate of the previous match, I think. The tag titles meant a lot more back then than they do now, so I don't think you hotshot the belts to the fairly new Steiners just yet. Have a spot where the Steiners have the match won, but Dibiase and IRS use "Heel Tactics" to barely retain their titles. Makes the Steiners look good overall and makes it that much more satisfying when the Steiners win the tag titles soon after. Winners: Money Inc. retains 7) Undertaker vs. Doink the Clown -Kind of ridiculous to consider at first. But, I think of it as a predecessor to the Taker/Goldust feud. Taker as a face had feuded mostly with big guys to this point, I think it'd have been an interesting twist for him to face someone who used mind games like him. Have Doink keep outsmarting Taker throughout the match and avoiding the blunt of his offense and doing whatever it takes to try to win. Eventually, Undertaker would get a hold of him and finish the match off. I think it could've been potentially good storytelling. Winner: Undertaker 8) Mr. Perfect, Tatanka, and Owen Hart vs. Razor Ramon, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Lex Luger -The six man tag protects some of the weaker workers in this match and combines a few potential feuds and play up the inability of the guys on each side getting along with each other. I'd say Tatanka would be the silent middle man with Owen as the consumate face and Perfect with some throwbacks to his heel days(using heel tactics, etc.). Also, Razor was on his way to becoming a de facto face because of his reactions so, he could have some dissent with his guys just to play that up and add to it. Ultimately, have Perfect have a dispute with Owen and walk out on his team and Owen perhaps get rolled up in the distraction leading to an Owen/Perfect feud just because that would've been awesome. Winner: Razor Ramon, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Lex Luger 9) WWF Championship Match: Bret Hart© vs. Randy Savage -The sheer thought of this is just amazing to me as these are two of my favorites. You have Bret, the fairly new fighting champion facing off against one of the frontrunners of the previous generation and everyone, storyline-wise, wondering whether or not Savage still has it and Savage saying that he likes Bret, but he loves being champion or something like that. I'd have had Savage win the Rumble(perhaps just an opposite of the finish they did have with Savage figuring out a way to eliminate Yokozuna). Let the two go at it in a face/face scenario with Savage playing the heel in terms of working the match. Winner: Bret Hart retains -After the match, Bret and Savage would shake hands/embrace whatever with Savage clearly passing his torch to Bret. Savage could leave as Bret continued to celebrate, leading to the recently returned Hogan coming out for a staredown with Bret as the show ends. This would, in my mind, lead to what I believed was the original plan of Bret going over Hogan at Summerslam to firmly cement him as the top guy. This may not have been the best I could come up with workrate-wise, but I like the overall prospect of it. Obviously again, I took liberty with storylines and angles leading up to the PPV. I'd be interested to read what anyone else could come up with or comments on mine.

Smackdown Spoilers for the 6/13 airing

I was there, so I figured I'd put my two cents in: Funaki and Simon Dean wrestled in a dark match. Standard. Mysterio/Helms was quite good. Even though he lost, Helms came out looking really good. Very evenly paced match. I never realized how over Kennedy is(as a face). The easy route would be just to push him as a face, but I think the whole "Kennedy, Kennedy" thing will wear its welcome eventually and so they should keep him at the heel/tweener level he's at. He definitely has in-ring charisma though. French is the most over heel on Smackdown with regard to Sylvan's promo. Mexicools were decently over. The crowd pretty much sat on its hands in silence during the match though. Khali is tremendously boring and even the younger Smackdown crowd doesn't seem to be into him. Tag match was really old school with Matt Hardy playing Ricky Morton. It was really stiff on all ends. Finlay gave one particular shot to the ribs that echo'd throughout the arena. Good match. Not that he ever was Benoit, but Henry really just looked nothing but fat in person. He also bores me to tears and I cringe any time someone(especially Chavo) has to be in the ring with him. If nothing else, Henry gets more heat than Khali. Probably because he's depleting the roster. I think Trenton's too far south for the crowd to accept Vito's chosen lifestyle. The match was really, really boring and the whole dress thing just screams time filler. Main event was pretty long. Another old school match with Booker dominating the entire thing and Lashley pulling a Bulldog powerslam out of nowhere at the end. I really miss Velocity. It's bad enough we don't get to see the tag champs on tv, now not even in person. But really, I guess I wouldn't want to sacrifice seeing Vito in a dress just to see Kendrick and London.

I still have faith in ECW

Today's first show is in Jersey(I'll be there), so it's not a bad crowd for ECW to debut in front of. Also, it's not like Smackdown's been packing the arenas, so it's possible a decent amount of people might attend tapings for ECW.
  14. I just thought of this: that it'd be like Owen beating Shawn in 96 to win the title shot at Mania.....storyline-wise anyway(not to say Orton's anywhere near comparable to Owen). I just mean imagine the injustice the casual fan would've seen in Shawn losing his shot.
  15. Orton's current heatless state must scare the holy hell out of the company. Despite the fact that Rey won the Rumble, and the winner of the Rumble has gotten the main event slot at every WM since 11, I doubt they'll actually put Orton/Angle on last. There is, after all, the small matter of Vince's Son-in-Law vs. the Company's Idea of What a Top Face Should Be. I'm tempted to buy WM just to see the Chicago crowd shit all over the card. Austin didn't main even WMXIII and McMahon didn't main event WMXV. I was thinking the same thing. But in both those cases, it was the heel cheaply winning(in Austin's case, he didn't even really win), but in Rey's case, it'd be so demeaning to the value of the Rumble, seeing as he won fairly, if he doesn't get his title shot. And I'll just say Rey winning the Rumble was the first time in a long time I actually marked out for something in wrestling.
