Guest HartFan86 Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 *I just sent this into a few sites* Hey, I just wanted to let you know that the WWE definately edited out the sounds and a few other things on Smackdown (that I was at in Boston). 1. During the opening Promo with Team Canada, they recieved a tons more heel heat than what it sounded like on TV. 2. When John Cena said he was from the Boston area, the crowd went nuts and it sounds like they barely cared on TV. 3. During Angle's interview, people chanted "What" during Angle's pauses and you can tell they also definately cut that out as well because you couldn't hear anyone say "What." 4. Hogan's pop was WAYYYYYYYYYY louder for Real American then what it sounded like. I was pissed on how it sounded like on TV because everyone was literally going bonkers. 5. At the end of Hogan/Edge/Billy/Chuck, Real American played and Hogan and Edge celebrated and the whole crowd sang along with it. It's too bad they didnt' show that as well. 6. After Taker said "Real Life American Bad Ass", the interview went for about another 30 seconds with Marc saying "Probably you" and then Taker saying something to the extent of "Damn right." 7. When Angle came to the ring, the "You Suck" chants were much louder live than on TV. 8. They edited the ending HORRIBLE. That looked so fake with the people in the audience acting like they were into the match, though the thing was boring as hell. I can understand why they edited it, though. The real version had Taker tapping out on Angle's shoulder, not the mat. It just baffles me the WWE does this editing crap. They get huge crowd heat and they edit it out. That's insanely stupid. Now, people are gunna think "Well, the crowd wasn't into it that much." but it's only because the WWE didn't project it good at all. This is why I think Smackdown should go live so we can see what really happened live, but whatever. I still enjoyed it in person and it was still unreal with Hogan, despite what it was like on TV.
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 hmmmmmmm..... I wonder who could be pulling strings to undermine younger stars in the WWF.. Hmmmm.... that's a tough one.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Isn't it more likely that the mikes were fucked up, or it seemed louder to you simply because you were there live than the WWE deliberately lowering crowd reaction to seemingly degrade audience interest in their product? And I'm sure they cut out stuff like the UT promo short due to time.
Guest What?! Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I think they cut "What" out for obvious reasons
Guest claydude14 Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 if everything wasn't loud as it was in the arena, im thinking it wasnt edited, just came across softer
Guest Grenouille Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I was there live too. The segment with Jericho was longer too (compared to what I saw, I flipped the channel after it). Jericho stood there with a scowl on his face for 30 seconds and talked about wanting to get Cena. I'd also agree on the Hogan pops....just huge in person.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I would agree with the thought that if all the pops/heat were muted on tv, that there was probably a problem with the house mics, or something.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Isn't it more likely that the mikes were fucked up, or it seemed louder to you simply because you were there live than the WWE deliberately lowering crowd reaction to seemingly degrade audience interest in their product? That's what I was thinking. But it's the WWE, so god knows why.
Guest Smeghead Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I'm thinking it's just the way the house mics are. I've been to live events before, and the crowd often sounds quieter on TV than they do in person. Although it wouldn't surprise me if WWE edited out the "what?" chants.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Crowds on TV simply don't come off as well as they do live. Watch a big rock show on TV, then go to one live, and you will notice the difference. Same for sports, wrestling, etc.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 When I went to Unforgiven, in the arena it sounded like the crowd cared about UT/Kane vs Kronik. The noise is always way louder when you're sitting in the middle of it.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I think that the Team Canada heat came across pretty damn well on TV. I was impressed. Either way, it's no reason to get pissed. It's not like your career depends on how well the Smackdown! crowd came across on TV.
Guest phoenixrising Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 When you go to the live event, you can hear the buzz throughout the arena even when nothing is going on but it doesn't always come out that way on TV. I remember I went to a February Smackdown and it sounded louder live than it did when I watched it on TV.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 This is a bit off topic, but I enjoyed Angle/Taker. As for the editing, I have to agree that it's the house mikes. Who really does care whether or not Cena gets cheap heat for saying he's from Boston, anyway? That doesn't really affect his career in the long or short term, so why worry about it? And I thought the Team Canada heat came off as nuclear to me. You know, it's funny, because these days I'm so paranoid about what segments the WWE is adding canned heat to that the idea of them muting pops seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world to me.
Guest papacita Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 A few years back, they did an article in Raw Mag talking about how the size of arenas sometimes makes to crowd noise sound a lot lower than it is in person. For example, at WM15, HBK's pop was crazy in person, yet on TV it didn't sound as loud.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Good thing I feel asleep and missed Smackdown.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Every time I go to see a live show... I can never even hear the backstage segments over all the crowd noise... yet on TV, I can hear everything very clearly over the crowd noise. It must be a conspiracy by HHH to get Kevin Dunn fired from his TV production job. Yeah, that's the ticket.
