Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 This is getting ridiculous. They are making Jericho and Angle job to all these new guys, but I never see HHH or Undertaker doing this. They stay unstoppable forces in the main event. This is fucking ridiculous. It looks like it will be John Cena vs Jericho at the next ppv and I bet Cena will go over in that match. Angle is in the main event and I bet anything that he takes the pin to whoever becomes champion.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 It looks like it will be John Cena vs Jericho at the next ppv and I bet Cena will go over in that match He's facing Edge.
Guest the pinjockey Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 It looks like it will be John Cena vs Jericho at the next ppv and I bet Cena will go over in that match He's facing Edge. No he's not.
Guest Ripper Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Um...yeah he is. Putting over new talent...lets see. Um, Brock, Orton, Cena....well, look at that long list of new talent. Taker put over Orton without actually losing, just like angle and Jerhico put over Cena without losing. Brock has beaten everyone... Don't see your logic in this one.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Edge is facing Jericho at the PPV. What are you talking about? EDIT: I guess the syntax of my original post made it seem like I was saying Edge was facing Cena.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I guess you are forgetting some main event guy by the name of the Rock who jobs to anyone and everyone.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Taker has gotten a lot better at putting over talent. He has put over Jeff Hardy, shook Cena's hand, tapped to Kurt Angle, ect. Now, if you want to complain about HHH not putting people over...
Guest buffybeast Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I think there is more to putting over talent than just jobbing. Taker put over Orton on SD! by selling for him, making him look good, and allowing Orton to get in a good amount of offense. It would have been ridiculous to have Orton get a win over Taker at this point in time. You may have a point with HHH, however. The last time I recall Trips making a lower level talent look very good was May 2000 when he faced Taka. He sold like a muthafucka for Taka, allowing him to get in a good amount of offense. Of course HHH won. But Taka gained more legitmacy, at least in my opinion, just from having such a good match with Hunter. And of course there is Rock, who would job for me if the bookers wanted him to.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Jericho and Angle are also the only two guys who've had a match with John Cena. And in case you didn't notice, John Cena is the only guy who isn't stuck battling another fresh face and trying to make a decent match (Randy Orton, Bautista) or worthlessly jobbing the first chance he hits TV (Shannon Moore.) The exception is Brock Lesnar, who's being rocketed to the top so hard the g-forces ought to be killing him. HHH is probably making calls to have the Glass Ceiling patched up as soon as Brock shoots past to make sure no additional rabble gets through. (Obligatory Smark Comment) I believe that a wrestler's very first TV appearance on a promotion should do two things: 1) Establish him as a face or heel 2) Spark the crowd with an attempt to get them over: Have the crowd really want him to win [like they did with Cena], or have an already established star come out and make the save for him, have them destroy a non-champion or job in a decent fight to a champion, whatever. Cena has a face thing going and a reason for audiences to like him. Mission accomplished. Rey has fancy video packages that say nothing about him except that he's, well, mobile. Randy Orton is practically a tweener because he's hanging out with some of the biggest tweeners of the world like Bob Holly and Valbowski. Bautista is a damn Run-In Man and thus those who are making noise are probably doing so just to see if they can hear themselves on TV when everybody is silent. Knoble was pushed as a heel in a gimmick that will probably get him nowhere but has gotten him the strap none the less. Mission accomplished, although it was pretty much bound to be so since he had almost a month of build-up. Except for Rey (who has had NO TV TIME but is getting plenty of build-up like Knoble,) the only guy who's barely gotten action is Shannon Moore, who had a taped Velocity match to appear Saturday. Things aren't looking good, though, as every report I read would imply that WWE put him out there without any real decision yet on which way to turn him. Joy.
Guest Austin3164life Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I guess you are forgetting some main event guy by the name of the Rock who jobs to anyone and everyone. Couldnt've said it better myself, Hogan Made Wrestling...... B)
Guest Incandenza Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 The fact that the Rock will job for anyone is just one of the many reasons why I like him.
Guest the pinjockey Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Cena has a face thing going and a reason for audiences to like him. Mission accomplished. Actually Batista was more over then Cena last night even though Cena is involved in segments with the UT, Jericho, and Angle in the last couple of weeks and Batista gets D-Von. They didn't cheer for either entrance but whenever Batista was in the ring the crowd was digging it people just don't want to cheer him since he makes the joint entrance with D-von.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Eh, besides charisma, jobbing, and proven draw he does nothing for me. He needs to work on his actual WRESTLING skills.

Now give Batista a better finisher than a fucking spinebuster and then we can talk.
Guest Human Fly Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Edge is facing Jericho at the PPV. What are you talking about? ***SPOILER*** Not anymore, they took Jericho out of the match on Smackdown and now have Edge and Hogan v. Storm and Christian
Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Jericho isn't facing Edge anymore. Edge is defending the tag titles at the ppv. The way things are going, it looks like its leading to a Jericho/Cena match, especially after the Smackdown tapings. I forgot about the Rock. Yeah, he puts guys over too, but hes never around anymore. He will be back until Summerslam then disappear again to go make movies. His next movie starts filming in December and then he has another lined up right after that.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 **Smackdown Spoiler** Not anymore, they Jericho out of the match on Smackdown and now have Edge and Hogan v. Storm and Christian Storm and Chrisitian will win the titles then...with Jericho's help, no doubt.
Guest the pinjockey Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I didn't want to put any spoilers in the thread earlier since it is not labeled with them. I figured I would just say they are not facing so others might get the hint without giving away any of the storyline.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I actually read a couple of different SD spoilers yet somehow completely overlooked that tidbit. Let me go back an add a spoiler warning.
Guest HollyandTestMark Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 The problem with Jericho and Angle being the only ones putting over new people is that they are not 100% established as permanent MEs themselves. If they job cheaply to newcomers, it doesn't help the newbies, and only hurts Jericho and Angle.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 While Rock does job for a lot of people, he hasn't really put over anyone in awhile except Jericho. Same situation as HHH with the jobbing. It's strategic. Rock jobs to people, but they do nothing for them or mean nothing in the long run. Rhyno, RVD, and Booker have wins over the Rock and they meant exactly shit afterwards. The difference here is that HHH's jobs are strategic by design of him knowing the head writer. Rock is protected up on high by the prince of darkness, Vince McMahon. I know Rock does do a lot of jobs, but only Jericho has benefitted from them. That to me is not putting over.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 What about the Undertaker? He may not job much because he is the champ, but he still puts almost everyone he fights over for most of the match.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Taker has gotten a lot better at putting over talent. He has...tapped to Kurt Angle... When?
Guest chirs3 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 He tapped on Smackdown. And the problem is the writing team - they job Rock to Booker T, then do shit with Booker, thus making the win mean nothing. Jericho's the only exception for the Rock. Edit: And Taker's pretty good, too - he doesn't lose, but he makes RVD and Jeff Hardy and others look like they stand a chance. Hell, he "lost" the title to RVD remember. S'why he needs to actually lose to RVD at Summerslam, but that'll never happen. Grumble.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 That's because the Rock does so many jobs he can't put anybody over. Someone beats the Rock now and the fans are like "oh okay, but I saw RVD, Rhyno, the Bossman, Jericho, Steph McMahon, Al Snow, Christian, and Test all do that as well". Basically, Rock overcompensates for guys who don't job very often (i.e. HHH, Austin, Undertaker) and as a result fans don't think it's a surprise if he loses. "Eh, besides charisma, jobbing, and proven draw he does nothing for me. He needs to work on his actual WRESTLING skills. " For someone who supposedly has no wrestling skills, the Rock sure puts on a lot of ****ish matches. Guess that's all by luck, huh?
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 He tapped on Smackdown. And the problem is the writing team - they job Rock to Booker T, then do shit with Booker, thus making the win mean nothing. Jericho's the only exception for the Rock. Just like when he jobbed 2 Steph.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Why do you still have me blocked on AOL IM, Bobby? We all know that the Austin thing isn't a work now, just let it go!
Guest Brian Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Especially after never beating Austin and rarely beating HHH.
