Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 There are a couple RVD threads around here...but I wanted to start a different discussion. Will RVD ever hold the Undisputed Title? And if so...how long until it happens? With how over he is, and has constantly been...is it inevitable that he wins it eventually? I'll tell you what bothers me...RVD has a story going with both the Champion and the #1 contender. Now RVD and Taker aren't feuding...but IMO their matches have been telling a story that sees RVD getting closer and closer to taking Taker down. That's why I still say the best way for Taker to lose the strap is by putting RVD over. So he's good enough to entrust with putting over Brock on his way to the main event...and good enough to have potentialy meaningful matches with the world champion...but not to get the Main Event push? I know there are a few RVD haters out here...but this thread isn't about whether you want him to or not...but if he will. Thoughts? Also...for fun lets speculate on what is keeping him down. Or not.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 BPS, as you know I wrote a column on this, He has the potential and the charisma, what he needs is better workrate and better mic skills or a MANAGER. That's why he has fonzie. If he continues to improve as he has been, I could see a year or 2 from now he would be in the main event mix. --Rob
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I feel that RVD will come closer to the title in September and October. My reasons: I feel that RVD will go over Lesnar at the PPV. Then, Lesnar will win the World title. RVD will somehow lose the IC belt during this. But, he'll be in a feud with Lesnar. Depending on Brock's heat, RVD wins the belt around October.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 you know...if RVD beat Brock at Vengeance...a program with Brock vs. the ONE man who ever beat him could be pretty interesting.
Guest FakeRazor Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think he'll be champ sometime in 2003.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I guess I should throw my own opinion out there on this... I have always said that RVD will never win the title. However...if he does...it will be the same way JEricho did...a half year before his contract runs out..just after anyone would give a shit.
Guest Austin3164life Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think that RVD will win the World Title at Survivor Series, where Undertaker will job it and possibly retire. For some odd reason, I see The Undertaker retaining the World Belt for a long time because he's seemingly filled the gas tank up once more to give it his all in his (most likely) last run with the World Championship. Undertaker symbolizes respect, and RVD symbolizes rebellious and carefree behavior, so it's almost as if opposites attract in this situation. RVD will definitely get the World Title by this year though. He'll remain over for a long time......
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 and in the time between Vengence and Summerslam, to try and avenge Brock's loss, Heyman can try and bring in guys to beat up RVD and take his title as revenge. Possibly after the PPV, Brock would run in himself, take out RVD and some guy would win the IC title. Which would provoke RVD to challenge Lesnar for a PPV for Lesnar's title.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I don't think he will, at least not a meaningful run. Maybe a one month reign or something. The line in front of him is just too long, and I'm not sure how long he will be willing to stick around the WWE. If anyone takes less money to go the NWA, RVD's the guy. I liken him to Razor Ramon. Great IC Champ, and over enough to fill in the main events from time to time, but I don't ever see him holding the big belt. This from the RVDHater.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 unlike most of what the WWE is doing....I would pay for that
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Rasmus...RVD winning the title is your greatest fear.
Guest Kinetic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think it's really just a matter of time. If Lesnar--and this is assuming that he gets it as SummerSlam--bombs as champion, which he will, they'll have no choice but to hotshot it on to someone else. This will most likely be Triple H, but who knows? They could finally give in to pressure from the fans and toss it onto RVD in a half-assed manner, thus assuring that his title reign is a failure. That's my prediction. He'll have it before the year is out.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 No. He has improved, and I don't really care about the title enough at this time (way to go Vince) to really give a damn. I just don't think it will happen. RVD isn't my worst favourite wrestler either. X-Pac winning the Undisputed Title would be my greatest fear.
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Trust me, I will be on the internet registering my disgust if Triple H goes over Lesnar in any clean matter.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 my greatest fear is Kevin Nash desire videos leading to a world title run. But thats neither here nor there.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 my greatest fear is Kevin Nash desire videos leading to a world title run. But thats neither here nor there. we agree on something --Rob
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 my greatest fear is Kevin Nash desire videos leading to a world title run. But thats neither here nor there. You just spoiled Vince's Wrestlemania XIX plans. And of course, he would squash Jericho (or Angle if Jericho bolts) for the title.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think RVD will hang around the WWE for a couple more years and then bolt to the NWA, where wrestling matters more. He can then bridge their heavyweight and the X divisions.
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I don't think Nash would be able to wrestle and win the Royal Rumble. So, I'd think he's returning to win King of the Ring in 2003.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I have not been a Rob Van Dam fan for very long...but I am a fan nonetheless. I love things that are UNIQUE and DIFFERENT then what Vince wants us to see. That is what RVD is. The reason Vince even lets him keep most of his style is because deep down he knows that RVD is making him $$$...and that is the REAL bottom line... RVD has seriously adapted to the WW_-style. If you watch old ECW footage and watch him now, you will see the same basic moves...but the flow is much better. Alot of people say he had better matches in ECW, but I see things differently... I have watched his Barely Legal 97 match with Lance Storm about a dozen times and although it is a bit botchy it shows that both men have serious POTENTIAL, not PERFECTION. There is a big difference. Brock has some potential too...but he is alot farther away from Main Event perfection than Rob Van Dam. Main Event Perfection is something which people like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair HAD, and the Rock can have when he wants to, and that Bret and HBK had, and that Kurt Angle has...it is making people pay attention in your battles, pay attention when you are on screen, and getting yourself and the angle over as much as you possibly can Rob Van Dam's NAME (along with countless others) gives people a reason to watch. The Rock's NAME gives people a reason to see his movies. Dwayne Johnson would not make me want to see a movie. So Rob will continue to sit in the upper-midcard, just below the glass ceiling and waiting for his time to shine. And when Vince finally lets Rob REALLY SHINE (as he did a few weeks ago in that ladder match) the WWE will be a better place because of it. RVD will hold the Undisputed Title. Whether people like it or not. He has the Name value, the uniqueness, the superstar look, and the fan base to be a great champion one day. That day may come sooner than we all think.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 He won't get it soon. The only person to not yet hold the world title who might have a chance of touching it before the end of the year seems to be Brock, and maaaaybe Edge on a real long-shot. WWE moves slowwwly, and unless we see another quick turnaround like Jericho during his program with the Rock, I think it's going to be the third, sixth, or seventh time around for a few of the already-been-there team for the rest of the year.
Guest gwf0704 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 With the exception of Jericho which other ECW/WCW wrestler has Vince allowed to win the title. It seems he's due but the fact that he wasn't in Vince's company first might hold him back.....
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I don't know if being an ECW guy is hurting RVD more than the fact that he got himself over without help from Vince. And since someone mentioned the future of the title...I think that if Jericho resigns they should turn him face and give him a quest to regain the undisputed title. I think that angle would be gold.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 ITS CALLED MIC SKILLS DAMMIT! CHARISMA! You need FRIKKEN charisma to be a good world champion ...or 7 feet tall, depending on who you ask, a sane man or Vince McMahon. This has been the CHARIS-F'N-MATIC Taker Mark
Guest The Vanilla Midget Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 im not sure if RVD will ever hold the title, but if he does, it will probably be at the end of this year as a transitional champ through december ppv/rumble '03
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 posting so that Respect the Taker can read my sig and try to name one promo that his man Taker ever cut that was half as good.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Sometimes you don't need mic skills to have charisma. Shawn Micheals could blink and the world would go crazy. RVD has charisma....or so it seems to me
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 It's kind of a two faced thing around here. RVD's mic skills blow, but Chris Benoit's are good enough to get him in the main event, BAH GAWD. Cutting the bias, here. RVD dosen't need to be eloquent at the mic. Keeping it short, and precisely to the point is more important. Look to somebody like Austin, who was a "god" at the mic. Half his promos degenerated into the same "Blah, blah, blah..3:16..stunner..beat your ass..hell yeah.." etc. Look at HHH's 20 minute ramblings. Taker isn't exactly a mic wiz either. Angle stoops to cheap heat sometimes. RVD's mic skills are MORE than adequate for who he is..Rob Van Dam. He dosen't need to be The Rock. He can get his point across, and people love it.
Guest chirs3 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Yea, Robbie doesn't do too much for me on the stick. As long as he keeps it short and sweet, he's fine.
Guest Brian Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Like I continue to push for Benoit and Eddie... You don't need mic skills to have charisma. You just have to be able to carry yourself and your persona in the ring to the right degree. If a promoter promotes what his workers are good at, than they'll get themselves over.
