Guest Redhawk Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I've only recently started watching Smackdown again (I hadn't watched since around the roster split because of my work schedule), and even then I seem to just catch bits and pieces. So for those of you who watched on the 4th of July...did they ever acknowledge that Edge was from Canada? I turned on my TV and I saw Hulk Hogan waving an American flag, right next to a guy from Toronto. Did the announcers ever say anything about it? And supposedly Edge gets into a brawl with Team Canada this week. I wonder if they'll mention the irony then. So is Edge an American now or something? Maybe this is leading to him turning heel on Hogan and joining Team Canada
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Just the same, I got fed up with a USA vs Canada match at a house show i went to Monday : Hardcore Holly and VAL VENIS vs Christian and Lance Storm. I know I remember the WWE at some point saying Val was from Canada..it was probably a long time ago but still..
Guest MrRant Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 BUT they announce him as coming from Las Vegas, NV.
Guest Redhawk Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 They never said that Val was really from Canada during the period when he was Edge's running buddy?
Guest caboose Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 With Edge, I think they are building to a Heel Turn. It would make sense for Edge to turn heel on Hogan for making him hold the American flag on July 4th. The Venis thing may be part of the angle as well. It would help freshen Venis' character. Did you actually see Edge's face when Hogan gave him the flag? Edge didn't look to happy about it. That could be the angle or for real.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I don't think Edge would seriously feel upstaged by Hogan. I mean, obviously by the current tag angle he's not over yet. As for Edge's nationality, consistancy in nationalities was never WWE's strong suit (look at the Samoans who have played Japanese and Arab men, to name an example.) But since Edge was half of Edge & Christian, there's either a deeper angle to be revealed or the WWE is seriously underestimating the intelligence of it's fanbase.
Guest CanadianChris Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Did you actually see Edge's face when Hogan gave him the flag? Edge didn't look to happy about it. That could be the angle or for real. You guys are reading WAY too much into this. From where I was sitting, Edge was THISCLOSE to marking out like a little kid from his boyhood idol making his old-style entrance.
Guest caboose Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 From where I was sitting, Edge was THISCLOSE to marking out like a little kid from his boyhood idol making his old-style entrance. Thats not as close as THISCLOSE~! No seriously, I was watching SmackDown, and Edge had a smile on his face, right up until Hogan gave him the flag.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I agree that their building towards an Edge heel turn, for two reasons. 1) Edge seems to be finally get over as a face, so according to recent WWE decisions, it's time for a nonsensical heel turn. 2) I can't see Adam Copeland (the person playing Edge) being angry over having to pretend to be an American. If he looked pissed, it must have been either surprise or part of an angle.

If this was WcW 2 years ago, then YES! Vince isn't that stupid. As much as I would like to see Edge turn, it would be a huge mistake. Edge is finally getting over and a pretty big name, and changing his character again would kill him and any heat he has going for him.
Guest mach7 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 BUT they announce him as coming from Las Vegas, NV. Yeah but they've mentioned that he's [Venis] from Markham, Ontario (North of Toronto) about a million times on their website and in their magazines. Who cares anyways.. as soon as Hogan got involved in this angle, it just went down the shitter anyways. I'll be more than happy to miss Suckdown! tonight.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I would LOVE to see a return of the Toronto Blondes(Copeland and Reso).
Guest Redhawk Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 It could be that Hogan is just stupid and forgot that Edge was Canadian when he gave him the flag. Or the writers were just stupid to book a 4th of July celebration with a Canadian in the ring.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Edge had the look on his face that he was considering waving the damn thing.
Guest Ace309 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Um... or maybe Hogan had to tear his shirt off, and he handed the flag to his tag team partner. Edge looked a bit surprised, but it looked to me like he was waving it to be a good sport.
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Wait sooner or later Edge will turn heel and go with the Canadian Group and Hogan will Feud with Edge! maybe it will be cage match WOOHOO Load o Shack o Crap!
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 maybe it'll go to a screwjob where Edge and Christian win the tag belts from Edge and Hogan.
Guest Smeghead Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Did you actually see Edge's face when Hogan gave him the flag? Yeah, I remember that. He was looking at Hogan as if to say, "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?"

He was looking at Hogan as if to say, "What the hell am I supposed to do with this?" Hogan probably would have said "Shit.. you're Canadian? Sorry Brother."
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Remember when he thought Bret Hart was American? Ugh...
Guest caboose Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Okay it was either: 1) A build to an Edge Heel turn to the Canadian group. 2) Hogan is a dumbass. 3) Edge is renouncing his Canadian roots. 4) Hogan is making some political statement about how Canada and Canadians are Bitches to America and Americans respectively. OR 5) It was a accident. You gotta go with 1 or 5 for common sense. 2 is most likely. But 3 & 4 would be the most interesting.
