Guest Mik at Cornell Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Chris Jericho has signed a new contract with WWE. He is current deal was set to expire soon. No word on how much the new deal is worth, or how many years it is for. Credit: 1wrestling.com Well, maybe he won't get buried anymore! Discuss.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I never feared that he wouldn't resign. While he could have always gone back to Japan (and probably been a huge draw), I don't think we've seen the last of Jericho in the spotlight in the WWE. Maybe they do have some long term plans ahead.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think this was a very smart move on his part. He really has what it takes to be a BIG BIG star and once someone other than most of the other board members realizes it then maybe he will get what he deserves (a good push with some actual WINS) WHEN he wins the Undisputed Title next time....it will be as a face...that is just what I think
Guest Invader3k Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Maybe now that he is definitely there for the long term, the WWE will give him a serious push again.
Guest notJames Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 For a second, from the title of this post, I thought Jericho quit. (Definitely need to hyphenate that word, I think...)
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 let the somewhat renewed Jericho push begin!
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 where would he go if he didn't resign? the wwe is perfect for jericho so there is no way he would leave. his character is finally one that is going to work longterm and he hasn't had one since since entering the wwf. if he keeps up as a heel and stays with his larger than life character, then he would deserve another chance with the title.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Cool, a few more years of jobs to Triple H. WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO Nah, I'm happy he's here to stay!
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Awesome picture Dreamer420. Never seen that one before.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 And I just made a post about this yesterday. I hate karma/irony/whatever.
Guest jester Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I hope the days of him looking like a total useless ass are done now that he's signed. The stuff they had him doing felt like they were trying to rob him of his credibility, in case he decided to jump to NWA. I don't know if that's the case, or if Jericho ever seriously entertained leaving, but that's how it felt. Anyway, welcome back Y2J. Now stay the hell away from Triple H and Stephanie and you'll do fine. Jester
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 You know what would be a bitch? If JR Denies this in the Ross Report tomorrow and says Jericho is leaving in August.
Guest Big Poppa Popick Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 fearhavoc...who is that in your picture?
Guest takapac Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 "Now stay the hell away from Triple H and Stephanie and you'll do fine." And how likely is that to happen? Triple H is only a year or two older than Jericho. He's going to be around to make Jericho his bitch for the next half-dozen years at least. If he has held a grudge against Jericho for a few years now, he's quite capable of holding it for a few years longer. Poor Jericho; he sold out for bucks, when he could have had freedom, respect, peace of mind and HW Championship elsewhere.
Guest Human Fly Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Maybe now Jericho won't be getting punked out by rookies. Hopefully they'll celebrate this new contract by havong Jericho put Cena in the Liontamer at Vengeance (if they fight). Screw the Walls.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 You know what would be a bitch? If JR Denies this in the Ross Report tomorrow and says Jericho is leaving in August. *loads gun* Anyone wanna go to Stamford?
Guest phoenixrising Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 Poor Jericho; he sold out for bucks, when he could have had freedom, respect, peace of mind and HW Championship elsewhere. <humming Shane's theme - "Here comes the money..."> The motto of many free agents - "Who cares about respect, I'm rich BAYBEE!" I wouldn't be surprised if Jericho got a renewed push now that he is under contract. Now Vince knows for sure he will be there for a while, and won't have to worry about Jericho bolting to another promotion with his popularity and credibility.

That might happen for awhile, but honestly I think sooner or later these politcal games will stop. They have to, otherwise WWE will fold. If somebody holds backs someone the fans want to see, it will only frustrate them and eventually drive them away. I'm not saying Jericho is the miracle solution for WWE. But sooner or later, they have to give power to someone who thinks of the good of the whole company, and then everyone will benefit. Except the ones who whine and suck, but bugger them. jester

Hey Jericho has to pay bills, and Pro Wrestlers don't get a retirement plan. Take the money now. Also, I'm pretty sure he'll be HW Champion in the WWE again sometime.

You could be right, man; I'm just saying that the way Jericho's been dealt with since he arrived - particularly by Triple H - doesn't seem to give hope for the future. There would have to be a huge turnaround in attitude on the part of a few people for Jericho to be taken as seriously as he should be.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 HHH should be turning heel soon anyway, so they wont be crossing paths then, right?
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 where would he go if he didn't resign? He could've gone with Steve Austin to a "secret meeting" at XPW

Yeah, and the latest Smackdown doesn't seem to indicate they've changed their minds... I'm amazed Jericho hasn't complained about all this. Could you imagine if Austin had been a recipient of this treatment? jester
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Theres a lionheart joke here somewhere..
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Poor Jericho; he sold out for bucks, when he could have had freedom, respect, peace of mind and HW Championship elsewhere. And he'd still have the IWC following his every move in his mind. Might as well take money while you can.
Guest Austin3164life Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Forgive me for not jumping with jubilation, but I'm not too high on Chris Jericho. Sure, I marked out when he debuted in the WWF, and he has had some classic matches with the likes of The Rock and Chris Benoit, but I feel he is overrated as a worker. I like how he puts forth effort to make up for his lack of size or natural technical ability, but I still don't think he can "do it all". Chris' charisma is what drew me to him. He does have a superstar's "look" but something about his style of wrestling isn't compelling to me. I think he's a solid worker, but he isn't the messiah like he is looked upon around these parts. That is all.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I agree. Chris really wowed me in his debut with the mega-entrance and the flashy look. His charisma went on to do wonders and really helped me see that he had huge potential and was misused in WCW. I was thoroughly entertained by him during the Rock/Jericho extended feud, but other than that he doesn't present much. His flashy entrance is really toned down and I used to really mark for it. His days as a face were utterly boring with his picking on Steph and ridiculous array of catchphrases only making his and The Rock's face characters more stale. He is truly being mistreated on the Smackdown side of things, and as a heel he has not much left. He can't be taken seriously because no one is a threat when booked as a pussy. I'd like for he and The Rock to re-ignite their feud and give us a double-turn. Rock is incredibly stale now, IMO and Smackdown really helped that shine through. Jericho as a bad ass face without the Edge - like persona against the classic strong better wise cracking Rocky would bode them both well and would shake things up, since Rocky has been face for a few years now. I, for one, am glad he resigned because although he isn't a stand out in my book anymore, he is much better than a lot of the WWE's combined roster. He is an asset, a decent draw and , with work, could really shine. I saw this coming a mile away so I'm not all giddy, but appreciative, nonetheless.
