Guest notJames Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Just thought I'd chime in to say that they're finally doing something right with one of their wrestlers. I was somewhat perturbed when they gave Noble the belt on his first try. It smacked of desparation and misguided thinking. (I'm also a big fan of the Hurricane, but that's beside the point.) I was also taken aback with his association with Nidia, since I didn't think she was good enough to be any kind of second/mouthpiece/valet, much less a wrestler. His moveset's really good, he's got a Dynamite Kid quality to his style, and he seems like a good seller, but there was nothing for me to really connect with him. And then he opened his mouth last night. And it changed everything. His speech about "being the champ so he'll never be poor again" was so dead on and moving that it really gave his character a huge boost. It's like SKeith says: "Gimmicks sell t-shirts; characters sell seats". The motivation to rise above his station in life really made a connection with me and makes me want to see him wrestle. Sure, you can say all the cruisers... hell, all the wrestlers in general, are there to win gold, but with Noble, there's a deeper reason for him. It gives everything he does from here on in a bigger meaning... his desparate heel tactics now make sense, and if he ever did a face turn, it would be the Austin-esque "Everyman" character all over again, trying to escape the grip of his impoverished past, something that any fan can relate to in some fashion. His relationship with Nidia is starting to grow on me, even though I still think she can't act and looks like a dog. The skits they've been doing with Tajiri have been much more interesting than his stuff with Maven. Passing her around like a joint at a Dead concert is so offensive it's funny, and is an easy set-up for a match with Tajiri if it ever comes to it. I just wish she'd stop referring to Noble by his full name. I mean, how many of you refer to your significant others by their full names? Other than that, I see great things ahead for our diminutive trailer trash champ. What say you?
Guest The Superstar Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I agree. I think that promo was one of the best parts of Smackdown. ...too bad it probably went over most people's heads
Guest notJames Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 It's a good start, though. If they can just build on it logically and... ... oops, I forgot... we're talking about the WW_...
Guest BifEverchad Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I totally agree with notJames on this one. I just finished watching SmackDown! I had on tape from last night, and that Jamie Noble promo was classic. With every passing SmackDown!, I dig him more and more. I mean, I've always been a fan of Noble's work, but last night's promo really made sense and was one to remember. It was an excellent step in the right direction, hopefully they will keep all this up. Because right now, Noble is one of the best characters on either show... let's hear it for Jamie "Yeeeeeehaw!"
Guest notJames Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I second that... YEEEEHAAAAWWWW!!! (BTW, Bif, is that your real future wife?)
Guest y2jailbait Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Knoble rocks YO!!!!! But i hope he's not trying to bump himself into oblivion like Dynamite, or hell even Jeff Hardy, that man cant even take a proper bump to save his life. But yeah, he's probably the third best "Character" in the WWE right now, behind Hurricane and Goldust.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I just hope the WWE trys to keep it as real as possible and not do anything stupid like The Dupps of NWA-TNA. Go overboard and it is no longer believable.
Guest LaParkaMarka Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I really really enjoyed that promo as well. I was sitting there thinking "Wow...Noble actually has a reason for being a heel. That...makes sense. I'm scared." Amazing promo though...it's funny how two of the best characters in WWE are freaking cruisers. Too bad they can't get a match longer than 3 mins on Smackdown. Also: Bif, cmon, that Rachel Perry chick was way hotter. Mmm, Rachel Perry. I think that's her name anyways. Once they replaced her I promptly forgot it.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I like Knoble. It's just hard to get behind someone who dresses as a "superhero" and a guy who wears fruity, non consealing tights. The WWE seems to be going with the whole "shades of grey" thing now, anyways, which is good.

Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I fear all this praise will fall on deaf ears. It looks to me like there will just be title change after title change and his character will not be booked to fit his gimmick. The desparate heel tactics to keep his belt in order to stay a big name and not have to be poor is an awesome idea. I wish him luck and congratulate him on getting my attention, I just hope for the best, yet I expect the worst.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Semi-OT, but... EXPLODAH!! Has he always used the move? I didn't watch that much WCW towards the end. He makes it seem like his life will end if he loses the belt. It's easy for someone to go out and say "this title means everything to me, this title is my life" but no one will truly believe it unless you provide a perceivable reason. It makes each title defense that more exciting. And when he finally loses it (which shouldn't happen in a very long while, not even for Rey), people will actually give a shit. This, is how you build up a title.
Guest Prince Paul Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 The WWE will probably drop his whole story once Rey joins. I don't think Vince pays attention to the cruisers to know if the story is over or not.
Guest BifEverchad Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 did anyone happen to catch any of "Byte This" today at wwe.com? Noble was the main guest and came off as a really genuine and nice person. He talked about his days in HWA and how he busted his ass on his way up to the WWE. Really made me realize how hard he works, and is trying to make the "Cruiserweight" division work in the WWE... PS To NotJames and LaParkaMarka: YES that will be my future wife! I pray to God it will be... lol and if you think anything less of her....for shame!

Yes, I was referring to how I like Knoble and can't get behind Helms because of his gimmick.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I watched Byte This today and he really did come off as a good guy. He lives his gimmick too, because he said he has lived in trailers his whole life and he even helped put them together for a job before becoming a wrestler. I kind of feel bad for him too. He said his wife was buying stuff now, since he came on the main roster before letting them work off what they have did the last year when he was only making $500 a week in HWA. He said he was going to mention the Redneck Messiah nickname at the next tv tapings for them to use. I wonder if they'll let him use it. He did the obligatory sucking up to HHH in the interview by saying he was the best heavyweight wrestler ever(yeah right).
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 I predict an eventual affair with Nidia.
