Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 With all the Biscoff hoopla and what not, I think most failed to notice something. Tommy Dreamer went and got himself over. Not by being some goofy gimmick wrestler, or dancing with a fat Samoan, by being what Tommy Dreamer should be. A never say die bleeding jackass who breaks canes on people's faces. Basically, the real Tommy Dreamer, ECW's Tommy Dreamer. If they keep up with him being a guy who gets his ass kicked the whole match then comes back and wins it anyways just because he won't give up, then he could be supremely over, as witnessed tonight. But of course, next week, he'll tap to the Big Show shaking his hand. God bless ya WWE
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Yeah, Tommy Dreamer is actually over. That's a scary thought.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Tonight's match was SICK. It's great they're putting an end to the Jackass character, but I couldn't help but feel for him and Stevie. Something tells me that these guys busted their asses and risked their bodies in ECW just so they could get to the WWF and not have to wrestle that style anymore. I guess not. You can hear JR and King tonight, they didn't like what they were seeing, and they showed it by not doing as best they could with putting Dreamer over as they would someone like Hunter or even Foley. I don't know, I'm just not a very big fan of garbage matches, although I do have to commend Tommy on his juicing tonight. I just hope he doesn't need to wrestle too many of these matches. I can only imagine what the guy's body would be going through when he's in his 40's.
Guest y2jailbait Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I love this, Someone went out and got themselves over, im so excited about Tommy Dreamer getting a shot at the WWE game, he would make an awesome intercontenintal champ maybe, hell if he really catches on, can we say Undisputed WWE champ, TOMMY DREAMER, okay, im a lil too excited!
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 You can hear JR and King tonight, they didn't like what they were seeing, and they showed it by not doing as best they could with putting Dreamer over as they would someone like Hunter or even Foley Are you kiddin me? JR was going on about how "damn tough" Dreamer was at the end of this match in the old JR fashion. This was a throw back to the days where JR could say the right quotes to get a person over. The match tonight is how hardcore should be done. Intensity instead of goofy weapons. The Singapore Cane match had intensity and it had an impact on the crowd. And that was not a career shortening match by any means. Dreamer would allow himself to be thrown through tables stacked three high in ECW.
Guest raptor Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I marked like a bitch when Tommy called himself the innovator of violence last week. Good to see that they're bringing that gimmick back.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 That was a great match. I hope they capitalise on Dreamer being over
Guest Human Fly Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Dreamer was getting put over pretty heavily by JR. He also called the match a "Slobber Knocker" which I thought was a term used only for hosses. I'm glad to see Dreamer getting over. He works hard, has given a lot of himself, and the match was good as well.
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Tommy, man, he was one of my fave guys in ECW (behind Raven, RVD, and Cactus). It's nice to see the Tommy i remember, the tommy that helped inspire me to become a pro wrestler. The Tommy that will never die, in the hearts of all us `Mutants.` WWE, put Tommy over and ill be one happy little fuck.
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Wasn't that match just surreal? I wonder what brought that sudden change of heart about with the bookers? The whole night was surreal now that I think of it.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I agree with JR putting Dreamer over big. I think he was legit impressed by his effort, and thats always a good thing. Long live Tommy's push that will be killed in 2 weeks probably.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I also liked Stevie's performance in the match. Those two mesh well together. Maybe they could form a team out of "respect." Heh, Stevie as Dreamer's lackey instead of Raven's.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Are you kiddin me? JR was going on about how "damn tough" Dreamer was at the end of this match in the old JR fashion. This was a throw back to the days where JR could say the right quotes to get a person over. In the old JR fashion? Where was the vein-popping screaming? Where was the screaming for mercy to let the match end? JR didn't even mention the fact that this guy was killing himself for the sake of the fans/glory/whatever. He did everything so tranquil. The comments about the match being a "slobberknocker" or the fact that he called Dreamer "damn tough" has been used so many times it doesn't mean shit anymore. Where was the emotion in his voice? Do you think anything he said tonight helped make non-ECW fans think of Dreamer in the same light as you do? Dreamer got over because of himself, JR didn't help as much as he could have.
Guest ManKinnd Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I always knew Dreamer still had it in him. He's just too crazy not to. Props to both of them. And hey, it was your stereotypical ECW garbage match too.
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 It's not always screaming......I think he reserves screaming for the big time matches. His commentary was putting over Dreamer I think and I never sensed that JR or the King didn't like what they saw. JR called it a Slobberknocker. As recent weeks have shown, if JR didn't like it he would have called it "Bowling shoe ugly" or would have said nothing at all.
Guest franchise632 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I wonder what brought that sudden change of heart about with the bookers? It has everything to do with the fact that Paul Heyman has a lot more to say in the writing of the shows, which is proof positive that wrestling shows are much better when you have people who actually know something about WRESTLING. Not some california asshole that used to write for Friends.
Guest jester Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Since the WWE hasn't done an event like this in a long time, JR should have sold it like someone was getting murdered before his eyes. That was one seriously sick match. Did you see the way Richards deliberately smeared Dreamer's blood all over his chest? Shudder. One sick muthafuckah. jester
Guest Smeghead Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I can only imagine what the guy's body would be going through when he's in his 40's. I wouldn't worry about that. He's already lost his testicles. I don't think it can get much worse than that.
Guest razazteca Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 so when will Dreamer become Philly Hardcore Champ? That match on Raw is probably Tommy Dreamers best match in WWE that did not involve Raven.
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I forgot about the blood smearing...that was creepy, but I don't think it was that noticable, since Richards barely had any blood on his hands. You couldn't even notice any red really.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 JR called it a Slobberknocker. As recent weeks have shown, if JR didn't like it he would have called it "Bowling shoe ugly" or would have said nothing at all. He said that about the Jackie match. Using the something like that for tonights match would be like saying, "these guys suck, they aren't talented, they just hit each other with sticks." That would have been insulting the two men's efforts, efforts that have to be respected whether you like what they're doing or not. If this guy is against high-flying cruiserweight matches, what makes you think that he approves of this? Since the WWE hasn't done an event like this in a long time, JR should have sold it like someone was getting murdered before his eyes. That was one seriously sick match. Exactly. For the way these two were killing each other tonight, the commentary left much to be desired.
Guest TheDames7 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Did you see the way Richards deliberately smeared Dreamer's blood all over his chest? Shudder. One sick muthafuckah. That was reminiscent of Jerry Lynn vs. Steve Corino....but as much as JR praised the match, neither he or Lawler pointed out Stevie's actions. Dames
Guest jester Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 And the Hardcore title is on Bradshaw? Bradshaw ain't hardcore. Dreamer is hardcore. jester
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Maybe JR and King were stunned that the match ended up so good. No matter how you take JR and King's commentary you cannot deny that match had intensity and it got your attention.
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 No matter how you take JR and King's commentary you cannot deny that match had intensity and it got your attention. Oh, I'm not denying that AT ALL. From the promo setting up the match backstage to the Singapore cane shattering on Stevie's head, I was on the edge of my seat. Maybe JR and King were stunned that the match ended up so good. No matter how you take JR and King's commentary you cannot deny that match had intensity and it got your attention. That however...
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 heck, Dreamer and Stevie have been in a feud for about 8 years. Of course they will work well together. The Superkick by Stevie to Dreamer was sweet.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Yea, the match and promo ruled, plain and simply. Tommy Dreamer is the main force behind the best segment on RAW two weeks in a row.
Guest mach7 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I really hope this is the beginning of something good for Dreamer. I remember saying a while back that that stupid gimmick was just to get him initially noticed and that he'd drop it soon enough. Thank goodness it came sooner, rather than later! A great match with Stevie, too! I wonder if they were supposed to crack up at Goldust's remarks.. it kind of looked out of place, but worked in the end anyways.
Guest Downhome Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Now the question, just why has it took them about a damn year to even BEGIN to do anything with Dreamer? Or hell, even Stephen Richards again.
