Guest Downhome Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 If you ask me, WWE is loaded to the rim with some world class talent, many of whom are very much able to have a ***** match, in my eyes at least. First off a ***** match is nothing more than one's personal opinion. My ***** may not look that way to you, and yours may not look that way to me. Now, with that said... ...who do you feel could have a ***** on your personal scale with each other, if just given the time? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest Anglesault Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Booker/Benoit Booker/Eddy Angle/Eddy Eddy/Benoit
Guest Flyboy Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 RVD/Angle RVD/Benoit RVD/Storm RVD/Jericho Benoit/Storm (one of my DREAM matches. Add in a submission stip.. hell yes!) Jericho/Storm Eddy/RVD (one more time!) Eddy/Benoit Booker/Benoit Booker/Eddy Angle/Jericho Angle/Rock (SD, maybe?) Angle/Benoit Angle/Eddy Storm/Eddy Kidman/SHANE HELMS (in my eyes, they fucking rocked in WCW) Rey Jr./Eddy Erm.. I'll stop now.
Guest Downhome Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Booker/Benoit Booker/Eddy Angle/Eddy Eddy/Benoit In your opinion, and you too Flyboy212EAW, do you feel that they reached this mark in their WCW series?
Guest Anglesault Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I'd also like to add Jericho/Eddy Jericho/Angle RVD/Benoit RVD/Angle RVD/Jericho RVD/Angle to my list

Guest BionicRedneck Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I think only: Benoit V Eddie Benoit V Y2J Benoit V Angle Eddie V Angle Eddie V Y2J could actually reach 5*.
Guest Brian Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Benoit vs. Eddie after a turn. Jericho vs. Angle Jericho vs. Rock (maybe given thei past matches) RVD vs. Benoit RVD vs. Eddie I'm trying to think who could Mysterio match up with in the cruiserweight division but I'm drawing a blank. If only they brought back TAKA. That's the list, given the roster split.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 As of right now w/ split: RAW: Benoit/Eddie MAYBE Benoit/RVD Benoit/Booker T. SmackDown! Jericho/Angle Jericho/Val Venis Angle/Val Venis Rock/Jericho Rock/Angle Rock/Val Venis Other than that, there are always surpises when it comes to having five-star matches (Razor Roman) and guys like Tajiri, Billy Kidman, Rey Rey, Edge or Christian could all be in perfect matches. You just never know.
Guest The Son of Sting Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I dont think we will see one this year, i would like to be wrong. Angle v Eddy - proberly wont happen anytime soon. Benoit v Angle. As it is i think these are the only two given the right time and booking that could reach *****.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Chris Jericho cannot and has not yet reached a ***** match in his career so far. The closest he has come to is probably his 95 J-Cup with Benoit, which was about ****1/4. There are probably only 3 workers in the WWE who are capable of carrying others to ***** matches, Benoit, Eddy and Angle. Having said that, there is also a select group of people who, when working with them, can reach that level as they have great chemistry and are hard workers themselves. This Group RVD Booker Jericho HHH Rock Rey Mysterio Jr
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Jackie Gayda & Eddy Jackie Gayda & Benoit Jackie Gayda & Y2J Jackie Gayda & Kurt Angle Jackie Gayda & RVD
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 RVD/Kurt in a cage with no interference. Would be at least ****, likely ****1/2, and is a shoe-in for 5 if Kurt brings back the backwards leap off the top of the cage.
Guest -Cutthroat- Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 *****/***** ? Rey Jr. is all I need baby!
Guest CanadianChick Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Jackie Gayda & Eddy Jackie Gayda & Benoit Jackie Gayda & Y2J Jackie Gayda & Kurt Angle Jackie Gayda & RVD Jackie Gayda=best wrestler in WWE!
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I think it involves more than just pairing good wrestlers together, they have to have a certain amount of ring chemistry. Consider for instance Benoit vs. Angle. These guys had about 4 really good matches last year, but none of them were at that MOTYC level (IMO anyway). I just don't think they have a great ring chemistry together (beyond both being great technical guys) to the point where it will all come together. Instead, when you look at say Benoit-Jericho and Rock-Angle, you see pairings that have clicked well and frequently in the past and have that little something extra to go over the "just really good" hump and into the "something special" area. With that in mind, I'd consider the following combinations the most likely to produce a really great match, based on current form and/or past results: Benoit-Jericho Rock-Angle Rock-HHH (only if HHH gets his shit together though) Benoit-Regal Eddy-RVD Rock-Jericho Benoit-Eddy Mysterio-Eddy
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Jackie Gayda & Eddy Jackie Gayda & Benoit Jackie Gayda & Y2J Jackie Gayda & Kurt Angle Jackie Gayda & RVD You forgot Jackie Gayda vs The Rock and the retirement match where Ric Flair passes the torch to Jackie Gayda.
Guest godthedog Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 it disturbs me that rob van dam has been mentioned so many times. when did he give the impression that he could work a ***** match?
Guest razazteca Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Rey Jr vs RVD Rey Jr & Kidman vs Beniot & Eddy Guerrero Rey Jr & Kidman vs Edge & Christian Rey Jr vs Tajeri Booker T vs Angle Booker T & Goldust vs Beniot & Guerrero Eddy vs Chavo Kanyon vs Awesome Awesome vs Lesner Table Match with Highspot Finish (Kamikaze Awesome Bomb vs SSP) Kanyon & Raven & Richards & Dreamer vs Dudleys & Rhyno Cage Match
Guest Flyboy Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 it disturbs me that rob van dam has been mentioned so many times. when did he give the impression that he could work a ***** match? *ahem* *points to the RVD/Eddy Ladder Match* Hell, that was ****1/4 in my book. People are saying the one at MSG was EVEN better. Maybe he can't work one, but I'm sure he could be carried to one with a good wrestler. Simple as that.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Well, both guys have to be on their games to make a 5 star match. I've never seen a 5-star match that was essentially a carryjob. Also, I really don't see Rock having a 5-star match ever again(and he's only had one which was at JD 2000) because his schedule is going to be so sporadic that I doubt he'll be in the nescessary shape to do more than he did when he was full-time.
Guest Brian Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 "Consider for instance Benoit vs. Angle. I just don't think they have a great ring chemistry together (beyond both being great technical guys) to the point where it will all come together." Angle also wasn't wrestling as good as he was during this time than he was later on. In fact, he was just about decent as a wrestler. The trigger was pulled on the first match, for whatever reason, and it ended rather early. That had a shot, at least, at four stars. The latter matches consisted of Angle getting winded and stalling, which really did not come close to the first. But Angle's much better than he was than. There's something about him that's still missing that'll make him a great worker. There's just no long-term connection with him that you can see shades of in the next three guys I talk about, that I find works really well. He just needs more time in the business. Benoit and Eddie are the only two guys who can really carry someone to that kind of match. They've proven it in the past. And they're the only two that have on the WWE roster. Of course, Benoit's neck is still an issue but he's leaner than he was last time around and seems pretty willing to bump. Jericho's probably the third. When he's on and motivated, he takes control of the matches he's in and brings a very nice pacing and alot of charisma to already good matches. His match at Vengeance with Rock, given a better finish, would have gone above four stars. I think he and Angle would be a good match given Jericho in a face role. I think RVD is carryable because his moveset has been reduced to the point where he doesn't need to do the brawling for the sake of spots on the outside and etc. But he needs to sell on the long-term and that's what I doubt about him and was really hesitant about adding him. Maybe against Eddie they can break the **** barrier (of course that house show could have). Maybe Benoit, wh might even play off the Eddie matches. That could be up there. Mysterio is a great worker that people don't really think about. I mean, they look at Mysterio and think spots. But he does a really great job meshing in his work with his spots and covering those odds and ends. It's going to be weird seeing him in a smaller ring with those ropes though, and that might affect him. But there's really no cruiserweights that can match up and really reign him in by keeping him under control and building something like a Guerrero, a Juventud, or even a Psicosis at the least. I have my doubts about Tajiri. Noble, maybe. TAKA, if he was there could be a total dick which is the chemistry plus TAKA brings the workrate. Regal in the right position could do it. There's only really a few guys I could imagine going out there and putting up with Regal enough: Eddie and Benoit. Benoit, well duh for those of us who saw the Pillman Show match. Eddie could work in the same light, being stiff ass. But no one else really. Maybe Angle or Jericho, but some serious doubts. RVD showed that if you take the guys offense, and he only looks half as credible as normal, and let him control, you can get something halfway decent.
Guest Brian Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Oh shit. I forgot about Chavo. Him in the heel role given the right amount of character development could essentially mesh with Mysterio. He's such a farkin great Rudo.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 RVD and Benoit hasn't happened yet and would rule.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Regal vs. Eddy Angle vs. Eddy Jericho vs. Eddy Rey Jr. vs. Eddy See a pattern forming?
