Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 As soon as I read the quotes on WWE.com that Triple H made concerning the meeting before Raw yesterday, I knew that I would be buried with reactions from people in the business. Well, I was right. If the feedback I received was any indication, Triple H has alienated himself from his co-workers even more than he already had. It's no secret that H is dating Stephanie McMahon and is pretty much looked at by the wrestlers as an honorary McMahon. It's also no secret that he has a lot of power backstage, say in the creative end of the company and just a lot of stroke in general. Rightly or wrongly, that will make you enemies in a locker room. But after what he said last night, he lost a lot of respect with people in the company that I talked to. That isn't to say that what H said wasn't true, at least in some parts, but people took issue with him being the one saying that the guys should break their butts on the house shows. After all, even before he suffered his elbow injury, he wasn't making many of the shows at a time when attendance was dropping and they could have used his presence on them. The general feeling among the wrestlers is that no matter what you say about Steve Austin or the Undertaker, they backed up their position by working the house show circuit while Triple H has been slacking off in that department. Another thing that he said which rankled a lot of people was that guys should stay until the end of the shows to watch everyone's match and get better. In theory, that is a great idea. In fact, that was something that the ECW guys did back in the day and it did help the product. ECW only ran 2 or 3 shows a week though and the guys had the rest of the time off. In WWE, the talent undergoes a hellacious travel schedule. There are weeks that they barely get a day off. When they are on the road, the travel often minimizes their free time to the point where it's a good night if they get five hours of sleep. Triple H saying that guys who are on early taking the opportunity to go back and go to sleep at the hotel rubbed them the wrong way, especially when you consider that H has much better travel accommodations than most of the other wrestlers. H also ticked people off by saying that guys have to go the extra mile to get noticed, but he didn't take into account that guys who have done that, and worked their butts off, have then been held down by those wrestlers who have political power behind the scenes. Guys, to a degree, can help put themselves in a position to become a top draw, but as many pointed out, they also need a top drawing guy to work with them and put them over so that they get elevated. A number of people pointed out that Triple H has not gone out of his way to do that, pointing to such things as Chris Jericho having to clean up dog poop for Stephanie while they had their program. A number of people I spoke with view his comments on the WWE site as grandstanding to the public. Me personally, I believe he meant everything he said and had someone else in the locker room said it, it would have been received much better that it was. But, Triple H's political position made his remarks much harder to take than had someone like the Undertaker made them. 1wrestling.com
Guest Prince Paul Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I hope HHH received the backlash from these comments that he deserves.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 But, Triple H's political position made his remarks much harder to take than had someone like the Undertaker made them. Taker, who after all, is the CHAMPION.
Guest Brian Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 "The general feeling among the wrestlers is that no matter what you say about Steve Austin or the Undertaker, they backed up their position by working the house show circuit while Triple H has been slacking off in that department." Probably my favorite line. "Triple H saying that guys who are on early taking the opportunity to go back and go to sleep at the hotel rubbed them the wrong way, especially when you consider that H has much better travel accommodations than most of the other wrestlers." Air McMahon? "A number of people pointed out that Triple H has not gone out of his way to do that, pointing to such things as Chris Jericho having to clean up dog poop for Stephanie while they had their program." Good to know people aren't forgetting this in the back.
Guest Goodear Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 * WARNING - INCOMING SWEARING * You know something, I don't agree with Triple H's speech and am not a fan of his ring work since he returned from the injury. But I am sick and tired of these FUCKING PUSSIES sitting there while HHH is right there in their face and then running like punks to 1wrestling (Is that Dave Meltzer? I can't keep these people strait) and bitching like mother fucking babies. And then they don't even have the balls to have their names attached to anything. "Ohh Dave, that Triple H is a hypocrite! I hate him! Make sure you say he's dating Stephanie! What? Use my name in the article? NOOOOOO!" At least Triple H has the stones to talk to people face-to-face, none of these cowards seem to have the balls for it.
Guest TheBlurricane Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 We don't know they don't have the balls for it. You don't know if they've talked to him backstage. They don't use their names in those articles cause WE don't need to know who they are, not cause HHH doesn't need to know who they are. I'm sure he probably knows exactly who they are.

Why have I been liking the Undertaker more and more over the past month?

Publically bad mouth the man who could one day (Very, very soon) be dating your boss?

But WE need to know everything Triple h says word for quotable word in staff meetings? I mean, honestly, we don't need to know... well anything that happens back stage and yet information is all over the place, mostly with unnamed sources. And what the hell difference does it make to (inserting name at random) that we know he or she doesn't like Triple H?
Guest Anglesault Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Because then HUNTER knows that, and (insert name here) is fucked.
Guest AM The Kid Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Ehh, what can they do to give Triple H a boot away from the writing, "pep-talks" and such. He's a one man power trip.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Bob Ryder is in charge of 1wrestling.com. Dave Meltzer is in charge of the Wrestling Observer.
Guest Goodear Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Great fucking idea. Publically bad mouth the man who could one day (Very, very soon) be dating your boss? Well, AS, if Triple H is going to have more power in the very near future, and these guys are disgruntled right now, how does going behind their bosses' backs improve anything? They have a meeting, Triple H says some stuff, no one says anything to dispute what he says to his face (at no one that we have any quotes for). Then the next day, the internet sheets have all this crybaby crap. It's whiney and serves no purpose other than to make Triple H look bad. And he does a fine job of that on his own.
Guest Goodear Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Because then HUNTER knows that, and (insert name here) is fucked. Blurricane thinks that Hunter knows who hates him and that they were only unnamed so we (meaning the common man) wouldn't know their identity, and that is what I was responding to. But let's say these source(s) are hiding their identity from Hunter. The thing of it is, if Hunter isn't going anywhere and is as unpopular as the sources make him out to be, why not confront him in front of the rest of the roster? The rest of the team should be there to back you up. Its not like Hunter can fire the entire roster.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Great fucking idea. Publically bad mouth the man who could one day (Very, very soon) be dating your boss? I always figured he was prepping Shane for the role myself. Shane has been doing the more business-y shit. Manning the books (and I don't mean accounting) doesn't teach you jack shit about how to run a corporation. Stephanie seems to be under the dilusion that she's a good actress and will probably be The Highest Paid Wrestler Valet of All Time when Shane takes over.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 It's good to see that considering all the shit with Austin that's happened...the wrestlers would rather listen to him then the Steriod Monster. My respect and liking for HHH is REALLY going fast and this speech he made isn't helping much. Bascially, he said the right things, but he had no right to say it. If anyone should of did a speech, it should have been Taker.

I think Shane is being prepped to take over the CEO role of Linda, while Stephanie has already begginning to run the creative end of things...
Guest Anglesault Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Goodear, HHH can't fire the entire roster, no. But that doesn't mean he will listen to him. And there is no guarantee that everyone will back the one guy up. JotW, I heard that Steph knows the business better than Shane and my get the job.
Guest Human Fly Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I think Shane is being prepped to take over the CEO role of Linda, while Stephanie has already begginning to run the creative end of things... Run it into the ground.
Guest Goodear Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Goodear, HHH can't fire the entire roster, no. But that doesn't mean he will listen to him. And there is no guarantee that everyone will back the one guy up. That's very true. But 1wrestling makes it sound like Triple H vs. The World in the lockerroom, so you'd think that confronting him in front of the boys would lead to near universal support.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Many people could view that as career suicide.
Guest Brian Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Shane's been prepped and steph's been prepped but it was done in different ways. Shane's had all this prep work with the boys, and that's why he understands the work that they put into it better. Setting up the ring, interviewing, reffing, wrestling. I think if he got the help, he'd actually be better off in the booker position just because he'd be able to work with the wrestlers and the agent. Steph on the other hand works the books. She did accounting, secretary, sat in with daddy on meeting. She fits me more as a CEO type. Alot of people probably don't want their names attached. But Jericho's a guy who's been reported to be visibly down and talking about how HHH sabotaged him. And where has that gotten him? Austin got screwed for HHH and his friends (pre-departure), and he was vocal about it.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Standing up to HHH -- whether it be in the sheets or face-to-face -- would be career suicide. He's got the McMahon family tied around his finger, and he knows it. Talk about abuse of power...
Guest goodhelmet Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 ok mark, here's a problem with your statements calling the boys pussies and the whole wwe publishing of thew article in general.... "The thing of it is, if Hunter isn't going anywhere and is as unpopular as the sources make him out to be, why not confront him in front of the rest of the roster? The rest of the team should be there to back you up. Its not like Hunter can fire the entire roster. "' First of all, we don't know if any of the roster did confront him. This piece was published under the wwe website obviously in an attempt to 'elevate' trips into a lockerroom leader role that taker and austin have enjoyed. it's possible austin and taker and possibly other 'leaders' have made similar statements that go unnoticed because well... they aren't hunter. As for speaking to the sheets, did anyone think that they would have ran to ryder or whoever if the wwe wasn't intent on asserting hunter's 'leadership' role. it's possible that if the wwe hadn't published the 'story' on their website then the complainers wouldn't have had to vent in the only public forum they have (the sheets) without suffering the hunter backlash. Also, as for criticizing RAW, while the show has certainly been hit or miss since the split, i think that based on the talent level they have those guys have tried much harder to entertain than anything i've read out of the SD camp (excluding the last couple of weeks). It appears that SD! has been continuously pimped as the better show even though RAW has for the most part been the actual better show (once again excluding the last couple of weeks). And finally, since the WWE seems content on following wcw's path of backstage chaos, why in the hell should these guys bust ass knowing that no matter how over or how much they bust ass (RVD, Booker) that their places are already predetermined? Knowing that a rookie was labelled the next big thing and pushed as such even though he did nothing in front of the camera or paid the supposed dues to warrant that position. Hunter's doublespeak is mind-boggling and unfortunately for the other boys, besides the sheets, there simply aren'tmany public forums to offer a rebuttal without feeling the wrath of those in positions of power.
Guest XdojimeX Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 "...would lead to near universal support." In the business of professional wrestling? Now that's rich.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Wouldn't it be funny if Jericho showed up on SmackDown with the HHHater logo plastered on a T-shirt?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 correction: HHH=Horse-Hormoned Hypocrite
Guest MrSCARY Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 HHH saying guys should try harder at house shows? LOL!!!! I seem to remember him not trying very hard the few times I've seem him at house shows. Maybe HHH hasn't been watching RVD at the house shows? RVD, the only guy to take chair shots and bumps out of the ring at the last couple house shows I've been to. RVD was there to put on a show, unlike Hunter who seems to just go through the motions.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 What I'd really like to see is HHH go off on the really good workers like Benoit and Eddie and the like so that Vince could see just how big of a looney he is
