Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I just want to say that I loved Smackdown from top to bottom. I wish I could retract all of my "hating Steph" comments now, well I take that back actually. I was so worried she was going to come in just as she left, but that was not the case. I REALLY enjoyed the "new" Steph, and enjoyed it a lot. I really think she has all that it will take to be a convincing Female business woman. From what I saw of her tonight, THAT is how I've always interpreted her as being in real life, professional, stern, and just flat out to the point. I give props to Steph and her seemingly wanting to make her self grow, and get better as a character. As for the rest of the show, the Cruiser matches were great and I was VERY pleased with getting two on this Smackdown. I loved how they did the Cena/Jericho thing, I loved Stephs interaction with everyone (including Jericho), I didn't think I was going to care for Billy/Chuck Vs. Holly/Val but I all of a sudden got all into that match and really REALLY marked for the Val Venis "Superfly" ending (am I the only one that got that?), as did many in the crowd. I was even please by the six-man for what it was. I was also so pleased with the entire Bishoff things in the back, with him talking to various talent, trying to "woo" them to RAW! Then the main event, well, I don't think Rocky/Angle have ever had a bad match with one another, once again they pulled out a great effort. The interaction with Taker to build for this Sunday was great, and just when I just KNEW that Rocky would get the upperhand and RockBottom Angle to end the show, that damn Angle goes and pulls off a hell of a reversal which led to yet ANOTHER major mark out moment for me. Then we have the ending of the show... ...the Steph/HHH/Bishoff stuff was great if you ask me. That is the best "final buildup" I have seen for a PPV in MANY months. I'm sure that entire interaction with the three pushed a few people over the edge to order the PPV. Very good stuff there, and I was very pleased at how it ended. Hell, I even marked out for THAT! Tonights Smackdown was just great in my eyes, and I can think of absolutely nothing that I did not care for. I know I didn't mention everything here that was on the show, but my point is that I have nothing to complain about. Kudos WWE, kudos for furthering, continuing, and pushing a brand new program/programs for a change, this was a huge breath of fresh air from where I sit. Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Did they explain why Steph is on tv, even though she lost a match which said 'if steph loses she must leave the wwf forever' ?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Steph looked smokin as a business type... anyway I think they are turning HHH heel now, and for some reaosn i feel we are gonna get a Jericho/HHH feud again
Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I completely agree, Downhome. I thought it was a great show. Glad someone else thinks somewhat similar to the way I do. And I marked for the Superfly ending too.

I feel it is more "her" seriously, and as a result of that I feel she will come across as a much more "fan friendly" character. As for a Jericho/HHH feud, I highly doubt we'll be seeing that again, so you have nothing to worry about. Smackdown has me truly interested in HHH for right now, I just LOVED the ending of Smackdown tonight! Did they explain why Steph is on tv, even though she lost a match which said 'if steph loses she must leave the wwf forever' ? Well, even though she lost in that match to be off of WWF TV, it is still believable that her father would re-hire her. I see no problem with this situation anyhow. Besides, the fans don't care about that, so why should WWE? There are plenty of stuff that is "forgotten", and this is no different.
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I completely agree, Downhome. I thought it was a great show. Glad someone else thinks somewhat similar to the way I do. And I marked for the Superfly ending too. Hell yeah man, when I see a good show I admit it, and I admit it tonight. Now as for the Superfly ending... ...wooooooooooooooo, I was afriad no one else would be too excited over that! I really hope he keeps on doing that, as it is great. In that tag match, when Bob Holly did his "finisher" I literally said to my cousin that I HATE that move and it has no right in getting a pin, but THEN Venis went to the top rope and did the whole Superfly thing and I said "well, I take that back, if Holly does that as a SETUP for The Superfly Val Venis and whatnot, then I'm TOTALLY ok with it as a setup move". I just thought that was a great ending to that match, and finally made me care for both of them as a team, and individually.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I don't get this at all. Aside from a decent main event, everything else pretty much sucked. Steph, regardless of her performance, is just another owner, and this kind of angle is so tired there's no way it's going to gain interest now. No continuity with the storylines, no orignality, no unexplored ground that anyone wants to see, no upside whatsoever. Bischoff is just another evil owner, too. I don't see the point of signing him at all. That leaves the wrestling, and aside from the main event, everything else blew large.

I didn't see Smackdown
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 It's not WWF anymore...it's WWE.....or something stupid like that.....

There are many of us who loved it though, so that's all that matters to me.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I really enjoyed SD! as well. The two cruiser matches were very good, the main event was awesome and everything else was solid. I'm interested in how this whole Eazy E-SMH-HHH angle plays out.
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I know this means nothing, but I was just at www.wwe.com and they have this thing on the main page talking about Smackdown tonight asking "Who will be the SD GM!?" and the pictures are of Steph, HBK, Mick Foley, and what prompted me to post this... ...a picture of Dusty Rhodes in his polka-dot outfit, lol. I'm sorry, I just found that cool as hell! :)
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Downhome- I marked out hardcore when I saw Dusty. I'm a Dusty Rhodes mark. WHO BE BAD NOW?

I'm interested in how this whole Eazy E-SMH-HHH angle plays out. I'm glad you agree with me also, that's great. I can't wait to see/read/hear what the "casual" fans think now, and I hope that the ratings went up at least a little bit as there was quite a bit of talk going around as to who would be the SD GM, after Eric Bishoff showed up on RAW! I'm willing to bet that the rating is up a bit, and might just suprise us.
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Downhome- I marked out hardcore when I saw Dusty. I'm a Dusty Rhodes mark. WHO BE BAD NOW? God, I've been a Dusty Mark for all my life, he rules the school... ...if you weeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllll! Even though he wasn't the GM (which wouldn't have made all that much sense anyhow), I truly hope they sign him to commentate. Hmmm, Bishoff is now GM of RAW, Bishoff had Dusty in WCW, the angle is being made to look like Bishoff is going to make RAW his new "WCW", so why not sign Dusty on to be an annoucer? Hell, bring on Scott Hudson and we have a team there for RAW! Move JR and King over to Smackdown to be with Steph, etc... and I'm all set up for my annoucing pleasures, lol.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 We need the greatest three man team to do on RAW- Tony, Dusty and Brain. God those guys cracked me up
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 At wwe.com they said who will be the GM be?? They had pics of Foley, HBK, Stephanie and- DUSTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 We need the greatest three man team to do on RAW- Tony, Dusty and Brain. God those guys cracked me up Damn, I forgot about Tony. If three man team, then yes that one is great. If a two man team, then I SERIOUSLY would like to see Dusty & Tony on RAW. As for Brain, if he could I'd love for him to join them as well!
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I was watching those Starrcade 95 and those guys had me dying. Dusty and Brain would argue the whole time while Tony would try to hold it together
Guest Austin3164life Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Although I was not at home to view Smackdown, I've been hearing some nice things about it. Here's hoping this is a big step in the right direction. Or the WWE will just take a small step forward (in terms of product) and two steps backwards like they usually do.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Well, even though she lost in that match to be off of WWF TV, it is still believable that her father would re-hire her. I see no problem with this situation anyhow. Besides, the fans don't care about that, so why should WWE? There are plenty of stuff that is "forgotten", and this is no different WTF??!! Come on, if the Wwf cannot adhere to their own stipulations then why should the fans believe them whenever they come up? Hmm? It totally devalues whatever credibility the Wwf has. The Wwf is saying by this 'Hey, you're stupid, you have forgotten about this, so we are doing it'. That is BULLSHIT. Sure, the Wwf has forgotten about plenty of things, what makes this right again?
Guest Combat Apparatus Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 No offense, but you're taking the product too fucking seriously.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I take anything I devote hours, nay, years, of my life to seriously.

Dude, it was a loser-leaves-company match! That never means anything! Countless times this has happened! It's nothing new! Did you really expect Stephanie to never, ever come back?! Huh, didja?! The loser-leaves-company match is the comic book equivalent to a superhero's death! And Superman is still alive, consarnit! ARGH!
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I assume you hold a grudge against Flair, Savage, all of the ECW/WCW talent, etc... as all of these guys fell to stipulations which said they would no longer be around. Get over it, things like this is nothing new, it's been around forever in the sport.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Again, how does it make it right? The Wwf cannot afford to screw their fans right now.
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Again, how does it make it right? The Wwf cannot afford to screw their fans right now. How did they screw their fans? They are furthering an angle, and that I feel is what the fans want. You are a naive individual if you truly felt she'd never be on TV. Are you a closet "mark"?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Ric Flair lost two retirement matches and came back. That god damn rat fuck- I'm never watching wrestling again!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 How are they screwing their fans?? Lying? I believe that Consumer Confidence is incredibly important to any product, especially this one at this time. Fans should be able to trust the Wwf, if a stipulation is made it is adhered to. Call it naive, call it stupid, call it whatever you want, but IIRC WCW went around screwing their fans, swerving them, lying to them, making hollow stipulations and look what happened. Consumer Confidence went way down and nothing could be trusted. Fans just turned off the TV.
