Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 This has been bothering me for some time. Why does WWE waste money on having a portion of a rock song for their "PPV Theme Song"? I could see it for WrestleMania, if it WORKS. But when we get three bands LIVE to "tell the story of the HHH-Stephanie-Jericho Saga", which I still don't get, it's annoying as hell. Someone explain it to me. I mean, business is down, so they release Mike Sanders and pay for more songs...

I'm shocked they don't have monthly concerts yet (I would not be opposed to that...During Taped shows they could perform). I kinda like D.P and Saliva performences cuz unlike Kiss and Megadeath and Chad Brock...WWe tied it in.

Besides, my taste in music traditionally lends to incredibly cheesy 80s rock that makes everyone say "you're a fool" or "you must be gay, right?" so kudos to Vince for trying to broaden my music horizons.

Remember the Backlash 2000-2001 theme? That was awesome. I think they should have bands for Wrestlemania and Summerslam, but not for EVERY PPV. I still think the best song used by the WWF was "My Way" for Mania 17. That was really good. Click Click Boom was good for No Mercy and I did enjoy Sinner for Vengeance last year, but all these songs every month are just driving me nuts...cause quite frankly, most of them suck.

However, just as many are bad (Neurotica sounds like Nu-Metal Band #138A). That's probably just because I have un-mainstream tastes in music (my two favorite bands are Orgy and Tool, so that should say something right there). And actually, I don't think WWE is paying for these songs. I think the deal is that the bands are allowing them to use their songs in exchange for the advertisements the announcers give on every show (see: J.R.- "Check out this month's PPV theme song on the album, as if I listen to modern music!). The Neurotica one was definitley WWE trying to get some hype going for their own band, since Neurotica is signed to Smackdown Records. -Shadow
Guest art_vandelay Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 It's to add a sense of credibility and professionalism to their productions. Would you prefer if they used a generic Jim Johnston song he made on a Mac in his basement? A well produced song, by a real band, complete with lyrics, help set the atmosphere and helps with the hype for events such as wrestling PPV's. I don't see how it does anything but improve the production. And this has nothing to do with Mike Sanders or any of the roster cuts, give me a break.

The problem with a lot of the music is that the general wrestling public scratch their heads and go, "who are they?" Another problem they have is when they get "real" bands, they're ALL nu-metal. I'd say Trust Company is Alternative btw.

Yes, but the few strings of it we hear in promos sounds like angsty metal rock. Your mileage may vary on that, but it's still not that great a pro wrestling song. That's different- it's a commercial product, so of course they have to pay money to be able to use it. But I'm sure that the deal with the monthly PPV bands is free on both ends- free publicity for the band, in this case TRUSTCompany, and free use of the song for Wee-Wee. -Shadow
