Guest BoboBrazil Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Smackdown showed a slight increase last night doing a 3.4 rating and six share, up from the 3.3 of the previous week. wrestlingobserver.com What will Vince try next?
Guest Downhome Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Steph = ratings damnit! HER return got a better rating than Rocky, heheheheh. Sure, she wasn't ANNOUCED for it, but still. It shows that people didn't just turn off the channel when she came on. Next week, and the next MONTH will really tell where this GM angle goes, and I can't wait to watch it unfold on my TV!
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I can officially say that the fans aren't into the Rock as much as they used to be. WWE is in trouble for the long run by the way this is going.

Guest redbaron51 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 hey next week its Rey Mysterio, and he's facing Chavo. If this is under 5 minutes I would be pissed because these two can work well together in a 8-10 minute match
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Wouldn't it be something if Rey's return got a higher rating than the Rock's?
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Damn, since it didn't drop in the 2's, Vince is going to be stupid enough to let his daughter get EVEN MORE TV time thinking she's the answer to the ratings problem when obviously it should be a gradual building-up of new stars over time that will actually solve the ratings problem.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Wouldn't it be something if Rey's return got a higher rating than the Rock's? it'll just show that people will not care as much for the Rock as they do with Mysterio
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Me too, a double-turn for Rock/Jericho would help both of thier careers and Smackdown going live rather than a Tuesday taped show with spoilers on Wednesday would definetly help. I'm always more excited for Raw because I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen. I know I don't have to read the spoilers but if there aren't any, no one can already know what happened and will want to watch the show, rather than find something better to do because they know what happened anyway. For God's sakes WWE.com sometimes puts the spoilers up themselves!
Guest bob_barron Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Smackdown going live would be a pretty stupid idea. They tried going live last year and the ratings didn't show any increase at all. The only increase was the cost of running the show. Going live would be an extremely stupid idea
Guest Brian Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 What Downhome, you didn't expect a show with the heavily pimed Angle/Rock match to not retain a whole lot of viewers? Going live is not a dumb idea. The way they're touring now, they'd eliminate the Monday house show during RAW. They'd run Thursday-Sunday while the other group is going Friday-Monday.

Yes, of course I expected that. My point is that Steph did not cause people NOT to watch. They stuck around, and she didn't convince them to do otherwise.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 Going live costs a lot more money than running a taped show, and it's already been shown that the live Smackdowns don't do really any better than the taped ones. It wouldn't be a good business decision.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 I can't stand the thought of Stephanie being all over Smackdown. If she is, watch those ratings slide.

I'm sorry, but it's simply absurd that you could interperet this as a possitive for Stephanie. Maybe it's the fact that the fans were looking forward to Rock's first match back? Hell, that was the main event, and it could be argued that they stuck around for that. Or maybe just the return of Rock in general has built up more fan interest that is increasing from week to week. Or maybe the shock of Bischoff showing up actually managed to have the desired affect and made people anxious to see what would happen next. This is all speculation, but so is your praise of Steph. I mean, I expected you to pull out some "Steph is a DRAW" joke, or two, but if you want to look at facts, this rating means that Smackdown made absolultely no impact on the fan base, keeping the same numbers as the week before. Now, in times like these, keeping ratings at the same levle is a very good thing, but this rating really doesn't mean the angle is a success, or that Rock is a failure. Duh.
