I'm Deathly Afraid of the Heel Jericho...

I was not familiar with ANY of Jericho's WCW work because I was always a WWF mark. m It's to my understanding he was heel the majority of the time there?

Many people on this board complain that he is such a chickenshit heel, that he's not a viable threat to anyone, even Rikishi - and I tend to agree. My question is...when he was putting in his groundbreaking heel work supposedly in WCW - how was his demeanor different than now? How was his heel psychology different than "I will talk shit, and run away as fast as I can" that we have now?

With Jericho's reaction to the internet's backlash to his RVD match - do you think his current heel act is his own concoction, or is the mass produced chickenshit coward the only heel the WWE can produce?

He had the Dean Malenko feud, one of the ones I better remember. Every time he lost he'd quote the rulebook, get a rematch or Malenko DQ'd... chickenshit heel all the way, whiner, but he did it so fucking well, cause he'd gloat afterwards

I prefer to call that the "Little Brother" heel, though...

Rent Slamboree 98 if you can find it.

This is the ppv with the Cruiserweight Battle Royal and subsequent Jericho/Malenko match. This was the culmination of the Jericho/Malenko feud. The pop when Malenko finally beat Jericho was amazing. This was truly storyline writing at it's best.

Jericho played the cocky, sometimes whiny, but still a dangerous threat heel almost to perfection here...leads some to believe it had more to do with good writing, but good writing is only good if the wrestler can act it out well and Jericho did that.

I even feel that his heel persona when he came to WWF was much different than it is now. I don't think he was as "chickenshit" back then.

He was a midcarder in WCW. In the WWE he was the unified champion, and couldn't beat anyone clean. There's a big difference, chickenshit heels or whatever you call them are ok lower down the card, but when your the unified champion and supposed main eventer it doesn't look good.

He would weasel out of a loss here and there, but by and large he went over the entire WCW cruiserweight division CLEANLY.

But once you get to the top of the card in WWE, nobody loses clean, so they sure couldn't do it that way.

That was just it, in the blowout match, it was a clean win. Plus he didn't look as weak in the matches, he was more of a chickenshit in his promos and at the start of matches, once it got down to business, he would go.

His success also had to do with the fact that he had control over his own character somewhat. He could crack his own jokes and make changes within his own storylines. Except when he come head to head with the ideals of Kevin Nash.

LOL, remember when he would come out for a promo wearing Juvi's mask around his neck, and he would have on a grass skirt that was Prince Iakea's? He would just show off his little trophies that he would pick up on his path of destruction.

Say, did Jericho gain a mask other than Juvi's?

No, but he had other memorobilia from fallen opponents such as the knee of Rey Mysterio and all of Dean Malenko's 1000 holds.

COol thanks for answering questions..it seems like that brainless idiot stephanie and the failed hollywood soap opera writers they hired just can't seem to get the concept that a heel must THREATEN a face in order for a "chase" to happen...A 1 sided all face feud helps nobody...why is it that they only have one heel in WWE and he always goes like this:

Generic Bad Ass Face Who Is Over 11 Feet Tall - 800 LBS. Who's Finisher is a Spinning Tombstone off the Top Rope into a Flaming Table Which He Only Does on Himself to No Sell It and Prove He's Not Afraid: I WILL NEVER BACK DOWN FROM A CHALLENGE (crowd barely pops, canned heat takes over)...

Generic Bad Ass Face takes out entire locker room of heels and eventually gets a nuclear missile launched at him which he no sells. Eventually the locker room stands up and the face barely puts over the radiation and beating and the Evil Owner (part 39) books a tag match with a partner in the end of the night. Generic Bad Ass Face turns on his partner at the end of the match.

Very next show...said face goes to the ring - and bad mouths the sports teams just to let you know he's a heel now. Then a newborn kitten enters the ring and he DESPERATELY RUNS FOR A CHAIR BUT SHIVERS IN FEAR AS HE STANDS IN THE AISLE SHAKING HIS FIST MENACINGLY. He runs to the owner of the company and complains about the kitten. Owner books a grudge match against the kitten to which the heel HEARS FOOTSTEPS OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR AND BEGS FOR HIS LIFE THINKING IT IS THE KITTEN - but it's only air and breeze...the heel still pisses his self and files assault charges against the air.
