From the Torch......

The final HWA show with wrestlers who have been cut by the WWE took place tonight at the Red Barn in Batavia, OH in front of approximately 150 fans. This was a historical show in that a number of wrestlers on the card would be making their final appearance in Les Thatcher's Heartland Wrestling Association.

B J Whitmer retained the HWA Cruiserweight Championship over Matt Styker

(1) HWA Cruiserweight Champion B J Whitmer beat Matt Stryker. I expected a number of title changes due to the pending departure of a number of wrestlers. A fast paced match with a number of false finishes. B J took the win when he

(2) Matt Dillinger defeated Spanky. Dillinger, accompanied by his manager Brother Clay, defeated Spanky when Brother Clay held onto Spanky's leg form the outside as Spanky suplexed Dillinger in from the outside.

(3) Chet & Dean Jablonski beat Human Time Bomb & Nigel McGinnis to retain the HWA Tag Titles. The Jablonski's took the best that HTB and Nigel had to offer and picked up the win when Dean knocked out Nigel with one of the title belts.

(4) E Z Money defeated O G Ekmo of the Island Boys. EZ Money picked up the victory in a match filled with hard knocks and false finishes. The action kept the crowd buzzing throughout the match.

(5) Surfer Cody Hawk defeated Rapid Delivery Rory Fox. Fox took the wrath of the crowd in this one as they called him Paper Boy throughout. Hawk picked up the win with a sleeper hold submission.

(6) "Above Average" Mike Sanders & Johnny The Bull Stamboli & a partner fought Lance Cade & Race Steele & Steve "Who's your Daddy" Bradley to a no contest. The funniest thing about this match is that each guy in the match did someone's finisher from the WWE... from the People's Elbow to Hogan's Big Boot and Legdrop, to the Stone Cold Stunner by Sanders on Race Steele. At that point in the match, Bradley went to the outside and grabbed the house mic and went down the line (and I swear he made no mistake about the initials...that's what he said)...Sanders, you got fired by the WWF... (the guy in the red tights whose name I never heard)... you got fired by the WWF... Race Steele, you got fired by the WWF... and even I got fired by the WWF. Why are we even out here... beating the hell out of each other... With that Mike Sanders grabbed the mic and called Les Thatcher out. He praised Thatcher and the rest of the workers in HWA and said that even though a lot of the guys you see out here are leaving, make no mistake about it. HWA will go on. B.J. Whitmer brought out beers for everyone in the match and for Thatcher. When Johnny the Bull and Lance Cade asked for beers, Sanders said, "You guys don't need beer. You got hired by the WWF. In fact you need to finish this match for the HWA Heavyweight Title... which led to

(7) Johnny The Bull Stamboli defeated Lance Cade to become the new HWA Heavyweight Champion. With that, Cade attacked Stamboli from behind and went for the quick pin. Johnny kicked out and hit a Rock Bottom on Cade for the pin to become the new HWA Heavyweight Champion. I don't know how this will play out later with Johnny moving on to OVW and WWE. All of the workers came out at the end to salute the fans and the guys who will be moving on. The crowd stood and saluted all of them.

Overall a good indy show, and I'm sure that Les Thatcher will survive. Cincinnati and the surrounding area have supported a number of promotions in the past and from what I understand, Thatcher will continue the regular Tuesday Night Showcase featuring the students of his school and the workers in his company in a very reasonably priced night of sports entertainment.

Wait, wasn't Mike Sanders getting the call up to the WWF?

Why is he saying he got fired? Did I miss something here?

It was rumored that he would be the next to be called up, but then out of no where got released. I'm sure EI Cubano would be happy to explain more.
