Guest mach7 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Call me a stickler for detail.. you can also call me naive for even expecting it from "the" WWE.. but still. What's this shit with being able to sign wrestlers from RAW or Smackdown at will. I mean, doesn't it defeat the purpose of having contracts in the first place if a wrestler can just sign with the other show if he feels that way one day? How retarded is this going to get?
Guest Human Fly Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 I'm still trying to figure out how Brock was "the heart" of Raw.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 If the end result is the WCW brand being restored (doubtful) or the brand split being ended, then I'll kick back and wait for whatever illogical crossovers are bound to happen.
Guest DrTom Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 I think the point is that they're trying to get away from the perception of "the" WWE, as you called it. Especially with Vince as 100% owner again, the brands weren't really seen as separate. At least now, with Bischoff and Stephanie fighting over talent, it looks like the two shows are trying to compete with one another in every way. And if you're going to do a "brand extension," that's a better way to go about it than what they'd been doing.
Guest El Satanico Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 No offense meant mach but i think you are waaay overthinking a tv show here. There is really no reason for WWeee to confuse most of the fans with too much talk about contracts. It's bad enough when we have to try and make sense of contracts in real sports. There's no reason to include it on written tv shows.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Dude... Bischoff is SOOO turning that show into WCW Nitro. And that is cool.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Just to throw something in, SmackDown! never was compensated for the loss of Benoit to Raw, were they?
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Brand extention vs Promotional war. Which one do you prefer?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Promotion War. Only because brand extension only feels like half of a show... whereas Promotion war would give them a purpose.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Amen, Brother bps. Now go forth and spread the gospel of promotional war in the form of WCW vs WWE and WWE vs NWA-TNA.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 I'm still trying to figure out how Brock was "the heart" of Raw. Raw needs a bypass then
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 I don't think fans at this point would buy into the "promotional war" given that Vince has screwed up every attempt of that working, however, I am ALL FOR a "brand extension" IF, IF,...........IF the two brands are DIFFERENT. It looks so far like Bischoff(or whoever is behind it) is actually interested in making Raw somewhat of a DIFFERENT type of show than Smackdown, but how far this goes before the ratings drop a .0001 of a point and the whole idea is killed is beyond me, so I am just going to sit back and hope we get two DIFFERENT types of wrestling shows a week.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 If they can carry on with what they did tonight and make the next couple weeks of both shows this entertaining... I think fans will buy into a war between the two. The lack of ratings actually works to their advantage this time... as any new viewers they pick up will have an easier time accepting the "Promotional War" being presented to them. And the viewers they still have...will be happy with any kind of change.
Guest Brian Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Actually, it's starting to feel like they're building seperate identities and competition. I like it. It's what they needed in the beginning and it's not too hard to follow.
Guest Kingpk Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Actually, it's starting to feel like they're building seperate identities and competition. I like it. It's what they needed in the beginning and it's not too hard to follow. I agree. The only thing that really seperated the two seemed to be the Cruiserweights. We'll have to see what Smackdown looks like (probably the way it always has to differentiate the shows) to see where they're going. To really be seperate, they gotta stop showing RAW clips on SD and vice versa. Leave the recaps to the weekend shows. It finally looks like WWE is trying to re-invent itself a little.
Guest Downhome Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 Don't forget that they need to quit showing up on one anothers shows.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 at least they are trying something....give them a little credit...even if it is confusing as all hell
Guest Zero_Cool Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 You know, I coulda sworn that RVD was the heart of RAW. Besides, wouldn't it have been that much better if RVD had showed up next to Bischoff eating a doughnut or something, then hopping into the limo? Then, J.R. could've talked about how Stephanie McMahon may have been trying to hi-jack the main event of next week's RAW. Oh well, what's done is done. It was good to see Rhyno again, though.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 I'm still trying to figure out how Brock was "the heart" of Raw. While I don't agree fully, this statement has some logic to it. It involves Brock's title shot. The Rock is a Smackdown! talent, and with Brock Lesnar facing him for the title, either way Smackdown! has the champion, and thus either way Smackdown! "wins" because it has the champion signed to its show. In theory, if the champion is signed to a specific show, the show could contractually force them to remain on their show, and not go freely, and thus get the draw/attention of having the champion exclusively on their show. Thus, by taking away RAW's only hope of having a champion exclusive (if desired) to their show, the "heart" of the show has been removed. Blech, maybe we're all thinking too much into such a trivial matter.
Guest mach7 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 No offense meant mach but i think you are waaay overthinking a tv show here. Maybe I am, but all I ask for is a little less insulting of my intelligence from a company that I have supported for 20+ years. (that makes me sound old, I'm only 24 though) But yeah, anyways.. I dunno.. I just think it's stupid to not even try to explain it even in laymens terms - because, hypothetically, what's to stop talent from jumping from one show to the other show and then back to the other show every other day? Okay, ES, you're right, I'm too much of an "overthinker." I can't help it! ;p
