RVD/Benoit

Just wondering what everyone thought the RVD/Benoit thing was gonna be. Think they'll have a few on Raw and then hit some sort of gimmick match at SS or will Benoit squash him, get the IC title, be back exactly where he was at the beginning of 2001 and send RVD into an epic feud with Steven Richards over who super kicks hardest?

 

I personally think they're gonna try to get some longevity out of it. Neither man has much to do what with RVD's Brock feud seemingly over for now and Benoit's Dudley feud ending in Buh Buh Ray dominating everyone. So maybe they'll get a few PPVs out of it. I personally think they could work better than Eddy/RVD ever did together, both like to be tight and stiff, RVD is capable of falling on his head numerous times and surviving, and Benoit's one of the best at selling a babyface comeback. (watch him in his feud with Jericho make Y2J's offense not look like shit for once)

 

Thoughts? Comments? Sexual preferences?

They have to get longevity out of it...its a fued that can't be wasted on a one time only RAW match. Just cant be done like that...

I wrote in the Smackdown Tread that I hope this is the beginning of a feud that will lead into SummerSlam. I wanna see Benoit Vs RVD, IC title Match, 2 out of 3 Falls.

 

However, RVD will probably beat him clean with the 5 Star Frog Splash Monday and that will be it.

I see it going for a good 2-3 months like every other upper mid-card fued. There'll be some great matches out of it.

They need to use this as a quick springboard to get Benoit over so he can turn face. Then he can feud with Regal or Eddy or HHH.

Unfortunately, around here you'll get most 'yes'..because people want Benoit over..blah blah blah..

 

I'm mixed on the idea.

 

I'd rather see RVD going for the Undisputed Title..(as the most over face should be) rather than feuding with Benoit, but that's me. *shrugs*

RVD should drop the title to Benoit, so RVD can go for the undisputed, and then Benoit can get the IC and feud with eddy per se

RVD going for the undisputed title is dead for the near future so just give it up. RVD feuding with Beniot over the IC is the best thing that either guy can do now.

 

It would also help both guys along. They are slowly building Beniot back into a upper midcarder/main eventer and a fued with the majorly over IC champ would help him reclaim his pre injury spot. Also since Beniot would finally have a decent opponent he would get into better ring shape.

 

I believe that RVD would be just fine wrestling wise in the main event, but he could still learn some things. A long fued with Beniot would probably get RVD better prepared for taking a main event spot.

RVD/Benoit should run for a few months, maybe culminate at Survivor Series while Brock kills the Main Event. Then RVD can move up and continue fueding with Brock til he gets the gold.

Not exactly on topic, but I gotta say that the Angle vs Edge feud didn't elevate both of them because Angle was elevated already.

On-topic: I say that an extended feud can do nothing but good things for them. Since they both have a good workrate, these two will have awesome matches. They will look better and better each time and then, just maybe, WWE will realize the great talent that they actually have.

I think this should go for a while and culminate in a HIAC match for the IC title. Just imagine the mind blowing spots in that one! Crossface on top of the cell! Rolling thunder on top of the cell! It would just rule.

 

Benoit will likely end up with the IC at some point here, thus RVD should move up to the world title level.

The main problem with this feud (other than a style clash which I anticipate) is that there isn't tons you can do with it. RVD's best matches are in gimmicks such as ladder matches, but I don't think WWE will let Benoit do many or any of these, at least in the near future. On the other hand, I don't think RVD can last in any of the workrate-dependent gimmick matches like Iron Man and so on. Plus, he has no credible submission moves.

When Bischoff mentioned the best of 7 series that Benoit and Booker had years ago, it got me thinking. What if they do another best of 7 series with RVD and Benoit? When they mentioned it on tv and I saw how Bischoff put it over, I thought "Hey, he's trying to educate the fans on something coming in the future."

 

Of course that probrably means they'll end the feud on Monday and the 2 of them won't see each other for about 6 months.

Here's what should happen:

 

next week: Benoit kicks RVD's ass for 10 minutes, wins clean with the crossface.

 

week after: Benoit kicks Bubba's ass for 10 minutes, wins clean with the crossface.

 

3 weeks: Benoit kicks Booker's ass for 10 minutes, wins clean with the crossface.

 

4 weeks: Benoit kicks Eddy's ass for 10 minutes, wins clean with the crossface.

 

5 weeks: Now the top bad-ass face on RAW, Benoit starts a main event feud with HHH or new champ Brock Lesnar.

Yeah, that was the exact plan. Have Benoit keep going over upper-card guys convincingly and play off his badass persona. He's already getting pops from the crowd, so it's not hard to turn him from badass heel to badass Austin-style face.

Here's my official stance:

 

They should run this feud until Survivor Series.

 

Why?

 

1. RVD came out of the Eddy feud the best wrestler that he has ever been...It seems to me like he was a quick study with the better worker...as the matches and RVD's roll in them just kept getting better. An extended program with Benoit over the IC title...I think RVD could show even more improvement.

 

2. When the feud is over...Benoit should win and then be elavated to the Undisputed title level...and he should win it too.

 

3. Now...RVD vs. Benoit will have been the hottest thing in the WWE all year...and sometime next year with Benoit as a heel champion...an RVD chase of Benoit's title should draw some good money, based on how good their previous feud was.

 

 

4 months...2 elavations...1 future hot money making program.

I think the RVD/Benoit match on RAW is an exhibition match of sorts, "testing the water" to see how well the two men work together and the crowd takes it, possibly for an extended future feud. I personally hold by my stance that there'll be a styles clash that keeps the match watchable, but not great, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Good lord, how many times do we have to hear something about RVD and style clash? The guy had a couple of decent matches with REGAL of all people.

 

I'm baffled as to why anyone here actually thinks Benoit is ever going to get near the world title at this point. The ship has sailed folks. He is totally IC title/upper card now. The likelihood of him beating RVD, Lesnar, HHH, etc. is absurd.

 

Benoit may well win out against RVD but it'll be just so RVD can get rid of the IC title and challenge for the world title.
