Guest thebigjig Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 I noticed while I was transferring the past few weeks of WWE programming onto another video tape that the WWE has not only being mentioning WCW alot lately but has been doing it respectfully which is something we definitely didn't get during the invasion. Stuff like the mentioning of Benoit/Booker's best of 7 matchups. In reality the WWE didn't have to mention that whatsoever because the casual fan of today probably didn't even watch wrestling at that time anyway, but for storyline continuity they mentioned it, which I think is really cool. Another example is when Bischoff approached Flair and Bischoff tried to bury the hatchet so to speak, bringing up their legendary feud in WCW... which once again like I said, they didn't have to do it. Anyway, this has probably already been brought up, but I just thought I would give my two cents on it, even though the "respecting" of WCW is just a tad bit late now... just to think, if they would've done this when they bought WCW, there's a possibility that the invasion angle and seperate promotions idea wouldn't have failed
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 It was hilarious listening to Bischoff at Vengeance saying "WC....WWEEEE" he even can't get out of the past. WCW has had its fair share of mentions on WWE TV lately and they have all been bringing up the good aspects of its past, but unless they are turning one of the brands to WCW, they should just let it die, and if mentioning a past feud in WCW, just mention it as a past feud.
Guest The Flying Dutchman Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up running Raw as sort of a new WCW... Consider the main stars: Benoit Booker T Eddy Guerrero Rob Van Dam All of these guys have more history with WCW and ECW than with the WWE...
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 Did I hear somewhere that some of the recent WWE dvds have wcw matches on them?
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 Well the nWo dvd has old footage and HHH's dvd has Flair/Steamboat on it. Did anyone see Confidential with Bischoff? Did they show old WCW footage? Like RAW finishes given away on Nitro?
Guest Tony149 Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 Did anyone see Confidential with Bischoff? Did they show old WCW footage? Like RAW finishes given away on Nitro? They did. The only Raw finish shown was when Schiavone said Foley was "winning their (WWF) World title."
Guest thebigjig Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 I would assume that the Confidential episode did show old WCW footage but isn't it true that this week's episode will focus on WCW's demise? Hopefully they won't twist the truth around and use the entire show to shove the "WWE was far superior aside from WCW's one hit wonder" bs down our throats But it's strange, from what I've seen on the Confidential commericals, it looks as if they're going to build the show around Randy Orton's court martial. Priorities anyone?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 But they didn't elaborate at all on either subject. JR mentioned the Best of 7 off the cuff, but made no relevance of it.
Guest thebigjig Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 Well they had the scene where Bischoff approached Benoit about it and discussed how great the matches were and asked him if he wanted to recreate that magic or whatever. All I'm saying is that they didn't have to bring that up... no one would've missed it. I just think it was kind of cool that they did
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 And since Ross wasn't there, you couldn't expect him to know too much about it. I think they handled it right in having Bischoff be the one to bring it up.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 I see it more as a teasing than an honouring.
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 Well they had the scene where Bischoff approached Benoit about it and discussed how great the matches were and asked him if he wanted to recreate that magic or whatever. The best part of that segment was the portrait of Bischoff on the wall.
Guest Smeghead Posted July 26, 2002 Report Posted July 26, 2002 Did I hear somewhere that some of the recent WWE dvds have wcw matches on them? The new (and last?) Austin DVD has Austin vs. Steamboat on it.
Guest razazteca Posted July 26, 2002 Report Posted July 26, 2002 Past history has been brought up only for the shock value of breaking kayfabe. Paul E did it during the Invasion angle and Flair did it during the Split/nWo angle, now its Bischoff's turn. Will this be any different than the last time the past was brought. WCW has been assilimated by the McMahons, resistance was futile. Whether or not WWE is going to make the WCW past history into a good angle or not is a big question. At least it is getting recognize
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 26, 2002 Report Posted July 26, 2002 Well they had the scene where Bischoff approached Benoit about it and discussed how great the matches were and asked him if he wanted to recreate that magic or whatever. The best part of that segment was the portrait of Bischoff on the wall. Yea, I love that portrait... somebody should have that as their avatar or sig pic instead of all the "serious" poses of Bischoff. Also, I guarantee you that if Bischoff wasn't the GM that they wouldn't be mentioning this at all. I suppose he's trying to revitalize his past glories? Maybe it's a partial ego trip, which definitely seems to be part of his character so far...
