Smackdown politics

Isn't it interesting how all these stories revolve around the same people?

According to the latest Wrestling Observer, there was a LOT of controversy backstage at Smackdown two weeks ago.

The original finish (by Heyman and Michael Hayes) for the Rock/Angle match was for Rock to tap out to Angle's angle-lock since Rock was pinning Angle for the title at the PPV. Pat Patterson and Triple H both objected to this, saying Rock should not be tapping to Angle in a match. So it was changed.

The original finish of the Jericho/Cena match was for Cena to pin Jericho clean and then Jericho would beat him up afterwards to setup the PPV match. Michael Hayes had the idea of doing the DQ finish instead. Triple H (surprise, surprise) was in favor of Jericho jobbing to Cena cleanly feeling it would hurt Cena's momentum to do the DQ.

They were going to re-do the match at one point later on in the show, but Michael Hayes talked him out of it. Then other people (presumably Heyman and HHH) went back to Vince and said Cena was being buried because they didn't think the match told the story of Jericho doing the low-blow to save himself.

Vince then pulled the match from the PPV and talked of not even airing the match during Smackdown. (Of course it ended up back on a few days later)

Hayes was pissed because he didn't like Triple H getting involved and also at Heyman because he thought the DQ finish was good. Jericho was also pissed, possibly because Triple H's influence would cause him to lose a match.

And the Hogan/Vince match for Summer Slam, which caused all the commotion a couple weeks back in regards to the scrapped Cena/Vince angle, has been scrapped as well.

This crap is just too much.

Cripes, if Michaels and Triple H wind up fighting at Summerslam, what are they going to do, bitch behind each other's backs about a finish.

Their egos would be so out of control that their heads would explode

BOOK THE MATCH, VINCE! :D

This Triple H bullshit has to stop. I think if he's allowed to have input, then you have to let the whole locker room have input. Justin Credible should have just as much power to change a match as Hunter does. Of course, that would be ridiculous. Therefore, Triple H should not have any input on matches other than his own.

I dont think there is a problem with HHH having control in HIS storylines, but i think him having the power to change other wrestlers matches, thats to much.

I can write wierd storylines around just about anybody (shit...the other day I talked Downhome into a way to give Albert & The Brooklyn Brawler the tag titles) but this new HHH/HBK feud is going to be tough to write around to make it look normal.

On one hand...HHH will have to end up going over...but he is apparently a heel now. Old school wrestling says that a heel never wins a feud, but recent stuff (basically personified by HHH at WM2000) has the heel winning...so that doesn't matter...

...the hard part is making Shawn Micheals...a legend but also only seems to have one good move left (Sweet Chin Music) and after that pedigree it doesn't seem like he could handle the bumping over a regular match...

but since WWE is pretty certain right now that they will have a match at Summerslam and it's going to be hard to work around both of their recent shortcomings of Triple H not having any really good matches this year and Shawn Micheals not even wrestling in the last 3 years...

So I'm guessing they are going to have to build the feud verbally for 3 weeks and hope by the end that they can both work a shitty 15 minute match where Hunter goes over...

Hopefully Shawn doesn't lose his smile this month...

You know quite frankly if I was Jericho I would tell HHH to stay the fuck away from my matches, and if he still butted in wait for him out back with a baseball bat. No scissors though.

If HHH wants to be a booker, then be a booker and quit wrestling. History proves doing both is fatal.

First of all, you would think Triple H would like to see Rocky tap?

Second of all, why is Triple H woried about Cena being buried if a few weeks ago he was trying to hold the guy down?

Well, would it be a GOOD thing for Triple H's storyline to be screwed up by Michaels' inability to work?...or...

(thought balloon appears above head)

HHH: Shawn can't work the match so PLEEEEEASE can I beat up Jericho again, Vince? Pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?

Vince(grin): Aw, Hunter, you know I can't say no to you...

HHH(jumping up and down): YAY! YAY! YAY!

If all these HHH stories are true (and i'm not saying they are)...

Then it will bite him in the ass in the end, eventually the entire backstage will turn on him. He will end up jobbing to Jericho in the end, because Y2J isn't a bitch backstage. Especially if he and Steph split up-then he's absolutely fucked.

I think most wrestlers already have turned on him after that "pep talk" he gave them before a Raw not too long ago, considering he's very slow in the ring now, doesn't bust his ass in the ring like he used to, and has never been a lockerroom leader, and because of that, he was not the right man to do that pep talk. I hope we all get to see the day HHH jobs cleanly to Jericho on PPV if HHH and Steph split up.

You know something, I don't give two damns about who comes up with an idea or improves an idea as long as it turns out well on TV. I want good shows, and I don't give a damn if Vince, Stephanie, Jerry Lawler, your mom, or the entire state of Alaska writes them.

Rock tapping in his first match back would be boarderline retarded. Hell having Rock tap ever would be pretty dumb, period. He's your number one face, the bravest of the brave and all that. Making him tap in his return match is not the way to get people to come see him later.

The second example is sort of silly, considering they didn't do what Triple H suggested anyway and did do the DQ finish leading to the PPV. So I guess Triple H doesn't have the all encompassing power everyone thinks he does. Anyway, the disqualification finish was perfectly fine and good.

If a finger is to be pointed to on this it's Vince McMahon. He is the one who is taking HHH's advice and going through with it. Does HHH deserve to stick his nose in other's programs? Absolutely not. Not until he retires and becomes a road agent. But the key to all this is Vince is the one who has the final say on what goes on and what doesn't. He could easily tell HHH to go to hell if he doesn't feel he is offering anything good. The argument is that he's dating Steph and he wouldn't do that to Steph's man. BULLSHIT. He' VINCE FUCKING MCMAHON. Since when is he afraid to tell someone how he feels? Especially if it's someone who works for him.

Bottom Line: If you don't like what you see on tv or hear about what's going on backstage, blame Vince. He can put a stop to it all.

Well, I've never thought Vince is the all emcompassing genius people think he is. Vince's genius is measured by the people he is surrounded by. When he has his trusted circle advising him the product tends to work. When outside forces (Kliq, HHH) get in his ear, the product turns to shit.

Right now Vince might not even see a problem with HHH being involved in booking. But really HHH is in fact alienating the locker room, and since he isn't really official "office" it's a matter of time before a mass uprising happens.

Again, Vince's bad for letting outside forces into his ear, no matter who they are.

No. Rock will leve in a few weeks and that'll be it for him for a while. But Angle will be around...and making him look strong is a FAR bigger threat to HHH's spot.

"Second of all, why is Triple H woried about Cena being buried if a few weeks ago he was trying to hold the guy down?"

Both cases had a bad effect on Jericho...not Cena.

JEricho gets slapped and knocked out like a bitch...then HHH tries to get Jericho pinned clean.

Look at that...Angle and JEricho getting the rug pulled from under them by HHH.

The two biggest threats to his spot...

Same here.

The final straw will be if, come, let's say, Survivor Series, Jericho is *still* in the upper-midcard feuding with Benoit over the IC title. If Jericho, Benoit, and Angle are not in main event storylines by then, I will become a HHHater officially. I'd like to see RVD up there too, but I feel that may be pushing it....

I find it ironic that HHH claims that Cena is being buried...wen giving him the win only futher buries Jericho.

I agree with DangerousA about it all coming down to Vince's decision to let things be influenced. I am not sure why Vince allows ANY of the wrestlers to be involved in production LET ALONE one that is dating a member of the production team. I found it hilarious on smackdown when Jericho took steph to the production truck and she looked at him funny and asked, "ummm, Jericho what are YOU doing in the production truck" My wishful thinking would like to think that was directed towards the smarks, but I doubt it

I don't think that Vince is blameless or anything. I mean this is the same guy that fucked over every other major wrestling company in North America, and he doesn't have the cojones to tell his son/fornicator in law to go eat Lucy's shit. I mean, THIS is our genetic Jackhammer? Our Higher power? Our Master of Ruthless Agression? Not in my Crash TV! But seriously, Vince is not blameless. HOWEVER... that does not excise blame from HHH. HHH's actions are his own, and whether or not Vince is now a senile man who doesn't understand that HHH is bad for business, or a scared old man who's testicle have physically and mentally deteriorated, HHH still bears full responsability for his degenerative actions. Has Vince McMahon been turning a blind eye to HHH's shenanigans probably. But let's face it, Vince's job is politicking and business. He sees (a rather distorted view I know but still his view) HHH as good for business. So I don't forgive McMahon, but I can explain it in terms of his position. But HHH is a WRESTLER. He is not a booker. He is not a writer. and he is not a creative genius. He is Wrestler and it is not his job to decide the best way for John Cena to go over.
