Guest bcu1979 Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 I'm not saying Mike Awesome should be a main event wrestler by any means, but his constant burial makes no sense to me. He's a big athletic guy that can do some pretty impressive moves and can play the monster as well. But he got buried immediately as soon as he came in the WWE. (Undertaker was complaining about him) And now he comes back after injury and just gets thrown out on the "D" show to job to cruiserweights and gets yelled at by Stephanie for being lazy. Now, there's a blurb in the latest Wrestling Observer that people are already complaining about his work again. I don't see how he's any worse than Kane or Test or Rikishi. Why not use him as a monster in the midcard and then have him put over guys like John Cena to help them move up the card? Instead, he's just another dead character taking up room on the roster.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 1. He doesn't have a good look. 2. He has horrible mic skills. 3. WWE has too many big men right now. There is nothing really that makes him stand out. 4. Wrestlers complain that he is too stiff in the ring. I'm predicting he will be released within 2 months.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 The supposed reason why Mike Awesome went from first WCW wrestler to capture a WWF title, to a jobber on Heat is because he is on Taker's "cant work" list. The list also probably includes DDP which explains why in the last months of his career he was wrestling Bob Holly.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 add sean o haire to that list. It's not just taker, but vince is SO ego-driven that he signs guys just to make them look bad. He is in his own world. awesome needs someone to carry him (masato tanaka) past his signature spots but there's LOADS of people who can do that right now. I don't think he could main event either, but they can use him for something more than they are now.
Guest the 1inch punch Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 Who did he piss off? Not 'Taker Paul Heyman, who is currently booking Smackdown
Guest razazteca Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 Mike Awesome needs to get the power of the Mullet back. If Chuck Palumbo can be tag team champ why can't Awesome?
Guest Trivia247 Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 They are Slowly redebuting him Putting him on Velocity, like Shannon Moore. If they could just throw him back with Team Canada Site some WCW presidence why he should be there. Or play that he is the cousin of the Nephew of Hulk Hogan LOL
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 Just a guess, that since Paul Heyman books Smackdown there still might be some heat with Awesome for the way he left ECW while still champion without notice.
Guest the 1inch punch Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 Goddamit THATS WHAT I SAID!!!!!!!!
Guest Smeghead Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 I think Slapnuts and 1inch Punch may be right. Heyman is in charge of Smackdown right now. He may be punishing Awesome for what he did when he left ECW. I don't think the punishment is necessary though. The hideous gimmicks that Awesome had during his WCW stint (That 70s Guy for example) are punishment enough in my view.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 1. He doesn't have a good look. 2. He has horrible mic skills. 3. WWE has too many big men right now. Bradshaw & Rikishi (among others) do? 2. You can work around that (manager, tag team partner, just limit his mic time). 3. He's probably the most athletic of the big men. That makes him stand out from the others. 4. That's bullshit when guys like Bradshaw & Bob Holly are on the roster.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 The two reasons Awsome will amount to nothing in the WWE: 1. He hurts people 2. He isn't a WWE guy On their own...they can be said about alot of people...together they = Awesome is screwed. On paper...he looks like a guy the WWE would push to the moon. A big man who is agile? can go off the top rope? Can do a tope? AND power moves? But...like I said...reason #1 and reason #2
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 3, 2002 Report Posted August 3, 2002 Who has he hurt since he's been in the WWE?
Guest Imarkout4chrisdaniels Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Awesome does power moves and high-flying moves, but he seems.....clumsy to me. He just moves awkward and clumsy in the ring. He isn't very fluent or crisp, and he botches some spots. Maybe that is another reason he isn't given more to do.
Guest Moleculo Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 "He hurts people" Really?I've never heard even a rumor of him legitly injuring anybody.Who was it?
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 On their own...they can be said about alot of people...together they = Awesome is screwed. On paper...he looks like a guy the WWE would push to the moon. A big man who is agile? can go off the top rope? Can do a tope? AND power moves? Jim Ross' response to that: "Oh, you must've noticed Bull Buchanan too!" - Mike Van Siclen. Bull is the STUFF!
Guest thebigjig Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Yeah... I've always gotten the clumsy vibe about him too... he doesn't move very well, he doesn't really have a unique look... more of an awkward look, and his mic skills are pretty bad. I think the WWE should just cut him and stop wasting their time
Guest bob_barron Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 Umm bigjig- It's Macdonald. Not McDonald
Guest evenflowDDT Posted August 4, 2002 Report Posted August 4, 2002 I agree that Awesome seems a bit awkward, and I noted this in my Velocity recap last week, although I haven't seen enough of "good" Awesome, so I chalked that up to ring rust. I'm assuming he's on Velocity again this week, so I'll be able to see more of that for myself. As he is? He's a decent worker but also one that few would miss if gone. Plus, remember that cardinal rule of wrestling... can he hawk merchandise? Maybe if they could get him as "The Gladiator" again they could sell plastic helmets and swords...
