New Guys...

Now I know we're past the times of cartoonish gimmicks and outlandish storylines, but recently the WWE has brought in new talent and just stuck them out there with no real distinct flavor or look. I mean, look at the current roster and you'll see regular guys with regular names and looks. Guys like, Randy Orton, John Cena, Shannon Moore and now Sheldon Benjamin have all arrived in pretty much the same manner, 'hey look its a new upstart rookie'. They lack any creative gimmick or personality. Other guys that were brought in from HWA, OVW or beyond were given that opportunity. Look at guys like: Brock Lesnar, Jamie Noble, Johnny Stamboli, Chris Nowinski and Rico. All established gimmicks and personalities.

So hopefully WWE will come to their senses and give the others like Orton a chance at being a superstar, instead of just handing them to us plain and simple.

thoughts?

What are you talking about?

Orton is better than Lou Thesz and Cena is a stand-up comedian.

Not to mention better-looking than George Clooney. Randy makes me swoon...

I agree. I dislike these "blank slate" wrestlers or "Randy Ortons," as I usually refer to them. They just take a long while for me to really care about them because they are generally just some guy who has a few nice moves, but is not vastly different than anyone else.

They seemed to be hinting at something interesting with Randy Orton awhile back with him getting mad because his partners against Batista and D-Von sucked, but they appear to have already dropped that angle. I hope they do give them something more interesting to do because I cannot say I care about Orton or Cena so far, and I find Benjamin to be okay, so I hope he gets out the no character rut. He has only appeared on Heat so far, so maybe the WWF has something more planned for him, at least, I hope.

I don't think gimmicks are needed as much as character. Cena was starting one as a respectful new guy who wouldn't take any crap, but now they seem to want him to be Edge-lite with the comedy routine. Big mistake.

As for Orton, well who is he? What does he want? These things make a character. They made a big deal out of him being from a wrestling family, but for all the personality he shows he could be another guy out of a developmental territory. It would be very easy to throw in that he doesn't want to live in his father's shadow, or wants to accomplish things he never did, or is deathly afraid of letting him down...those things would give him character.

Look who the most watchable new guys are: Knoble and Nidia. They gave them characters.

That's why most people sit on their hands when these new guys come out. What motivation do we have too cheer for these vanilla characters?

Maybe Orton will get some personality when he comes back, but isn't he currently sitting out after getting a concussion from a Batista-line?

I like Benjamin. He won his debut match...how about that.

I think they should turn Orton heel, and have him be a lackey like his father.

Call him Randy "Ace" Orton, and have him second a cowardly-heel. He'll generate some heel heat by association, and then get some face heat when he turns on or gets punked out by the cowardly heel.

Hey, it's not great but it's better than him just being a personality-less third generation wrestler.

Actually I think that would be great if he would be a lackey to a guy like Kurt Angle or Chris Jericho cause both of those guys already got good to great heel heat

I still think he should be teaming with Brock

BTW - Shannon Moore was from WCW and was part of 3 Count with Shane Helms and Evan Karagias.

I think that they should turn Hurracane back into Shane Helms and they should reform Three Count along with Billy Kidman (hey, Kidman has gone way downhill since joining the WWE, I don't think that joining Three Count would hurt him!). I know it might seem like a step back down for Shane Helms, but the Hurracane gimmick is getting on my nerves and I thought he was better as "Sugar" Shane.

No, Helms is fine where he is. Kidman's hit a lull.

I want to give a shit about these guys but I'm sorry, generic music, tights, look, moves can't get me excited. Not at all. There is no denying the talent and the potential guys like these have, but a big question to me is, if this is the premier federation with the best writers, the best talent prospects and the guys with the best knowledge of the business, etc, why can't they package guys well before they come in? These guys should come out of no where and debut and cause interest, not just come in wrestle, but not mean anything and have to try and come into their own (most may never do it until they get a gimmick)

Look at the way the WWE used to do it. Guys like Jericho and the Hardyz and Gangrel, Christian were given characters and paired with others to establish themselves.

I mean, look at the Hardyz, they came out in flannel pants looking like two little girls but they rocked the house with their crazy moves. They eventually got over because of what they could showcase in the ring and characters came later.

These guys have to wrestle WWE style, so they are no different from anyone else AND they have generic characters. It's not fair to them or us, and the writers and producers just look lazy. unacceptable.

If only the WWF would listen to any of these complaints and improve in the slightest, or have a shred of common sense...

Nope. Never.

What's hope?

I hope, and always will. I'll watch wrestling until I die. Why hope? It's better than being bitter and wasting your time being overly cynical.

I agree, when guys like Sean O'Haire, one of the best atleates in the fed. [watch his WCW stuff] are not even gettin anything more than "he's crazy" or Jungle-man "gimmicks" its sad. Memo to Vince, Get a clue! Stop pushing guys without charachters!

Shannon Moore is Hurricane's trusted sidekick....The Excited Southerner

Sheldton Benjamin looked good, but who is he, and why should I care? With that kick finisher he should be Booker T's lil cousin or kin of some sort.

As for what I have seen of Cena on Heat a few weeks back, I do not really care for the 2nd citizen from Planet Stasiak, but they would make one crazy tag team.

Chris Nowinski is by far the best of the bunch, being from Harvard.

As for Johnny the bullshit Stromboli, get him off tv now, worst Italian gimmick ever!!!! Where is Big Vito? is he still on the love boat dating show?

Guest The Prodigy

exactly, OHaire[ who i assume you ment with the PS thing] is 100 times better that Stasiack, Benjamen, or Ortan. Yet he's treated like a sideshow jobber.

Stamboli is absolute crap. I can't believe he gets more time than O'Haire and even has a job when Sanders gets canned.

The NBT could have ruled WWE TV if brought back as a unit.
