SummerSlam 2002: The heatless wonder?

I hate to tell you, but I don't really think too many fans give too may sh*ts about HBK anymore. As a result, this isn't going to make HHH that much of a heel, as they just don't give a sqirt. Not to mention that they have tossed and turned the HBK/HHH saga so many times the past month that it is getting rather confusing and just plain tiresome already. Frankly, I am not in the least excited about HBK returning. I wanted him too, but this angle is not where it should be done. An HBK return "should" be nothing less of a thunderous ovation, something I have yet to truly see. HHH turning on HBK should be nothing less of a means to make HHH an instant top heel, with INSTANT hatred of him, something I didn't really see on RAW. As a matter of fact...

...am I the only one that noticed the crowd "what'ing" both HBK and HHH? (Yet more evidence that I feel backs up my thoughts that Austin should have been this years "Summer Champ" once again!)

Not only the above, but add this to the fact that Brock Lesnar has almost no heat so far, and we are adding all of this up to be one Summerslam that LOOKS like it should be very interesting, but is shaping up to be nothing short of a failure. From what I can tell, HBK/HHH and Brocky/Rocky are the two "main events" for Summerslam, neither of which have that true chemistry that should be there. I hate to say it, but I feel that the Brocky/Rocky match COULD end up more interesting than this HBK/HHH crap, but hey...

...that more than likely will not end up any better than what I see right now. Yeah, SummerSlam may be the "#2" PPV of the year for WWE, but from where I stand, it's only looking to be nothing but yet another one of the wonderful "generic" shows we've all seen one too many times before. The GM angle is too interesting for THIS to be the best we could be working with right now, and it just pisses me off that WWE is not going the obvious route of what could make, for a magical and truly Classic PPV. Just what is that obvious route? Think of it like this...

...picture in your mind what we have set for the PPV right now, change it around in your mind to something totally not like we have ready to be put on, and that would more than likely make for better chemistry than what we have so far. I'm not going to totally dog it yet, as it could get better, so I'll hold the rest of my comments, untill SummerSlam is upon us. For the sake of all of us, and WWE itself, I truly hope they improve what looks to me a lackluster show.

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

the WWE is screwed, their 2 big matches are heatless

Well, we know Rock will get his chants for his comebacks during the match, but I think we're going to hear a new WWE record in lowest crowd noise for a WWE World Title change in WWE history.

WWE is running on logic being thrown out of the window, and hotshot-feuds 101 to remain afloat. Even the past two weeks of free tv, which have been good, haven't turned on any fans. They really need to trim the fat and start from scratch.

If the buildup to both the Rock vs. Lesnar and HHH vs. HBK are half decent, then that's a start in the right direction. Also, I'm not going to bash both matches until after I've seen them. I'll just hope that both are half decent, that's all. Seeing as how HHH vs. HBK is one of my dream matches, that to me makes SummerSlam a must order PPV for me anyways.

The main events sucks... so what? Maybe the mid-card will provide some good wrestling matches... I hope.

Well, they've got 2 weeks, and 4 shows to try to build this thing to a fever pitch. Unfortunately I think they should put a ton of effort into hyping the top 2 programs because they are gonna need it. The other matches have good enough workers that hopefully they can get over with their in ring work. This thing is also gonna be at Nassau, one of the tougher crowds. Thank God I have a sports bar close to me that shows the ppv's with no cover charge!

So...

lets see...

on paper...SummerSlam could have been a hell of a pay per view...if some of the matches took place a long time ago.

Let's look:

Rock vs. Brock...no one will care when Brock wins. Congratulations.

HHH vs. HBK...this would be something...5 years ago for HBK...2 for HHH. Now you have a guy who can't have a *** with Angle against a guy who hasn't wrestled in years. Add to that the fact that HHH's matches don't carry his entrance heat.

Flair vs. Jericho. Should be good...but I wish this could happen with a younger Flair. Oh well.

SPOILER*******

Angle vs. Misterio.

Should be very good. I don't see the point and the winner is clear cut...but it should be good.

Taker vs. the un-americans in some form...BOO

What the hell is RVD going to do?

Benoit vs. Edge, Eddy vs. Cena or a tag match? Whatever. Benoit/Edge would be ok. But that's RVD's spot damnit.

What is RVD going to do?

Reminds me of Mania. MAnia didn't have ONE match with the potential for ****+ going in. This one has Misterio vs. Angle...

so this one wins.

What is RVD going to do?

Here's a quote from the Torch's Raw coverage (hour two)

The Michaels vs. Triple H "fight" combined with Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock has SummerSlam looking red hot, which is amazing when you consider where WWE was four or five weeks ago.

Is this guy watching the same program I am?

That's a good question. Obviously, it will be Jericho vs. Flair at SummerSlam, so a match against Jericho is out. Benoit is now on Smackdown, so a match against Benoit is out. Unless, RVD joins Smackdown before SummerSlam, then we'll see Benoit vs. RVD. However, until that happens, I really don't know what RVD will do.

RVD will probably end up in the Heat match against Big Show.

And I honestly think that is going to happen.

If that happens then RVD is screwed for good. The WWE should be pushing RVD, but instead, they're pushing Lesnar, which I don't have anything against. I'm really, really hoping that RVD doesn't become another ECW superstar that falls at the hands of Vince McMahon, and never main events again. :(

I'm worried about this too.

The Flair run in in all probability means that jericho is going to feud with Flair. Why can't Jericho feud with RVD? You might be able to get some pretty good matches out of that one. Instead, RVD floats. He should be given something to do to build up to a good match at Summerslam. I'm worried he'll get something on the last Raw before the Show. "Uh, oh yeah, RVD. Uh... you can be Bubba's tag partner against Big Show and Steve Richards."

Well with tonight's RAW, I wouldn't be surprised if it could turn into a 3-way feud between RVD, Flair, and Jericho...

That way Jericho could heelishly and cleanly go over someone in that match (Flair) who could FINALLY retire the very next night on RAW (because a big announcement like that should be on free TV obviously, not anywehre else) saying something along the lines of Chris Jericho beat him fair and square, so he obviously doesn't haqve what it takes to compete anymore. This would bring out Jericho who would get in Flair's face and get huge heat for sending Flair off TV, but then out comes RVD, who is still protected because he wasn't pinned in the match..

Damn I should be booking this crap..

It's a shame really. I usually look forward to Summerslam as it is one of my favourite shows of the year. However, the main event will probably suck ass, and the Triple H/Shawn Michaels match is between two guys who are shadows of what they used to be. I admit I pretty much hate both of them for the shit they have cause backstage and the like, but both men used to really good in the ring and have great matches. Now we there broken down. I can only hope for a good Ric Fliar/Chris Jericho match and hopefully a half decent mid card.

I hate to be a stereotypical negative Smark, but the situation for SummerSlam is reminding me a lot of the situation with WrestleMania... there were no matches you really want to see anymore. Nothing feels special. They really need to drop a few PPV's and keep guys apart longer if they can't come up with compelling storys for these guys to tell.

At least Mania had the "past vs future" Hogan/Rock match to make it seem special.

The problem now is that the same guys keep running in to each other, over and over again, with usually the same result. HHH runs into Jericho, beats him. RVD runs into Jericho, beats him.

It seems like the WWE loves to take a guy, make him the "next big thing" and then drop him like a hot potato. Think Kurt Angle, they got him into the ME and then dropped him. Same with Jericho. They'll do it with Brock, too.

Give them the Belt, then sacrifice them to The Rock, HHH, or Stone Cold. Well, not stone cold anymore.

HHH & HBK fought plenty of times in 1996 and it was shit then. What makes the WWF think it will be any good now?

Because Triple H now has intesity, and great speed considering how fast he ran over Shawn Michaels and got back to the ring to put himself over, and the fact that Steph is the booker and Triple H and Michaels are best friends. If Triple H has any friends or like considering his little speech on Tough Enough 1. Remeber that? "LOVE, AAAAHHHH, RESPECT OUR BUSINESS, AAAAHHHH!" That's intensity folks! ;)

RVD's going to jump. I just keep on telling myself that. New scenario is that Rikishi jumps next week to harness the Island Boys, and ***partial SmackDown spoiler*** after Benoit cuts his promo this week about not having enough competition, RVD jumps. I can't imagine them teasing both RVD v. Benoit and RVD v. Booker without delivering on one of them in a pay per view scenario. Than they should just re-shift so Edge fights Eddie.

and of course, where's bookerdust in all of this? pissing about with regal/nowinski? They need the tag title shot. Even if i don't think they should take the belts off team canada just yet, get bookerdust on ppv!

As over as Goldust is, what has he done on PPV since his match with RVD? Has he even had a match since No Way Out?

Goldust has broken into a managerial type role
