Guest thebigjig Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Strange how so many of you deemed Smackdown to be an instant failure by reading the spoilers, when in reality, it was not only good, it was great, with two really good matches, very little Stephanie McMahon, and great development of Brock's heel persona
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I thought Smackdown blew.
Guest thebigjig Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 That actually doesn't really shock me.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Angle/Cena we've seen done before, and done better. The six man tag was given enough time to impress, but spent all of that time building to a finish that didn't quite work. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think they gave it nearly enough time. Shucks. Oh, and way to make an effort with Moore by pairing him with a glorified jobber and giving him no build-up. The rest blew and blew hard. Guess what? NOBODY CARES ABOUT RIKISHI!!! NOBODY CARES!!!!! Oh no, disention between the preacher and his Decon, SMELL THE INTRIGUE! Oh, and did you know that Cat-fights featuring half-naked women break out all the time? IT HAPPENS!!! Oh, and will the Stacy/Dawn feud over who gets to fuck Vince EVER END!?!? AAHHHHH!!!! Monkey's are writing the show again!!! WHY!?!?!
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I wouldn't say SD! was great, nor would I say it sucked the big one. I'd say "thumbs slightly below in the middle", if that makes sense. Fun C&B vs. 3-Count match, plus Angle/Benoit/Eddie/Rey were all awesome. But outside that, nothing else was too special. I want to like Bautista, but the WWE should have built up D-Von & Bautista so that their tension & split mean something. Mixed-tag match sucked. When was the last cruiser match we had on SD!, 3 weeks ago? Would have been nice to have one of those. Brock/Hogan was OK, but Hogan's offense just looks so bad.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 The show sucked. The highlight of the night for me was seeing Funaki try and hold back Nidia in the back when they were all fighting.
Guest DrTom Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 It didn't blow, and it wasn't awesome, but it was above average. That, of course, makes it tons better than the shitty Raw we had to suffer thru Monday night. I gave SD a 6/10.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 The show was okay to me. It was better than I expected, but hardly what I would called awesome. I enjoyed the Six-Man, 2 Count-Billy & Chuck, the Funaki~! cameo, and Brock-Hogan. I am actually starting to like Brock again, oddly enough. Smackdown was better than Raw, and better than I expected, but hardly an awesome show. And I just wasted my 500th post talking about Smackdown.
Guest Ram Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Well, Smackdown usually varies in time for me. Meaning I watch the cruiser's and Kurt, the rest I don't pay attention to, or switch channels. And damn, that was a good match.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Mixed-tag match sucked. When was the last cruiser match we had on SD!, 3 weeks ago? Would have been nice to have one of those. Actually there was one the week before. Tajiri vs. Rey.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I really didn't think much of Smackdown at all...the shit with The Fat Boyz (Mark and Kishi) was awful...I can't believe they'd rather have those two on then having a cruiser match or two. I was just sitting around waiting for the show to end...I was not entertained. Raw seems to be the more entertaining show now
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Mixed-tag match sucked. When was the last cruiser match we had on SD!, 3 weeks ago? Would have been nice to have one of those. Actually there was one the week before. Tajiri vs. Rey. I stand corrected. I think watching Mark Henry & Rikishi wrestle back-to-back fried some brain cells...
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Raw seems to be the more entertaining show now It was until this past monday, where HBK & HHH performed verbal fellatio on each other, and not one good match was contested. Smackdown was much more entertaining, and even if I didn't like the match, the ending rocked the house. To quote Scott Keith... Brock rubs Hogan’s blood on his chest – geez, he’s not just big and mean, he’s unhygienic, too.
Guest jester Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 My opinion of Smackdown is in the middle too. Although I have to say it was A LOT better than I thought it would be. It's always fun to watch Hogan get beat up (I hate Hogan). I just wish Brock had squashed him more. No distractions from Heyman to give Brock the advantages, and have Hulk feel punches even when hulking up. Or grab that finger when Hulk points it him, toss him on the ground and pin him with utter contempt. Now that would have been funny.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Brock should just eat him, whole.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 Brock should just eat him, whole. Now, *THAT'S* what I would call a mark-out moment.
Guest Storm Tracker Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I've seen worse. I liked Brock squashing Hogan into a bloody pulp. The chair shot after the match was over was a nice touch. 2 Count was alright, but they should have had them sing after the match was over. I thought the Jamie/Nidia vs. Billy/Torrie match was entertaining. Rey/Eddie/Chris/Kurt looked good again. I love it when Eddie and Chris double team Edge and beat the monkey crap out of him. My favorite part of the show!
Guest Just call me Dan Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 The show was the "run of the mill" so to speak. You aren't going to win over any viewers with shows like that. Henry and Rikishi are utter wastes of space and do nothing for the product. Having big at men isn't going to do anything. D'Von is nothing but a worthless jobber now. He went from beating HHH to getting squashed by Farooq and every other mid carder on the show. Batista has weak offense (punches are terrible) for his size and he never wins either. Who cares if they feud? I don't. The six man tag was brutal in the middle because the transition only consisted of back-body drops. I swear there were 50 in there. Cena is just too damn generic to be pushed as he is and if he isn't re-packaged soon he's going to start hearing "Die Cena Die!" Hogan/Brock was surprisingly good, Hogan bumped more than he has in forever for Brock (Hogan taking a full on Powerbomb???) But watching him CHEW the blood capsule kind of killed the end. The way Brock held on and then Hogan bladed made up for it, though. Still no buildup for the SS main because Rocky was inj Australia is absolutely dumb. The one thing that really made me smile was Bischoff having a secret ally is Stacy. I do want to know where that will lead. Who else is there to take? Show seemed like a lot of filler. **1/2*
