Slow down Mysterio, don't go so fast!

This is from the Wrestling Observer...

Rey Mysterio was told to slow-down the pace of his matches from his WCW and Lucha Libre style of wrestling.

...my translation, is "Rey, you must now conform to the WWE style of performing, it's the only way you will get over!". That's great, don't ya think? I mean, we all want to see a slower version of Rey, don't we, DON'T we!?

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

*Backstage after Rey's debut match on Smackdown. Rey's walking to the locker room when some mysterious man in the shadows whispers to him*

???: Psst......Rey-uh......you gotta slow-uh it down-uh. Stop with-uh this Lucha-uh. Use the knee-uh.

I wonder who that mystery guy could be that told Rey to slow it down....

Well, this isn't the first time a former WCW cruiserweight has been made to change his style for higher-ups.

Don't show up the main eventers, push the football players, and do music videos a lot.

Didn't that philosophy get Bill Watts fired and replaced with Eric Bischoff?

Now, was his work during the six man tag the slowed down version of his work, cause, I'll be honest, I can deal with it. True, we won't be getting 100 % Rey, and that saddens me, but I hardly think he'll end up like X-Pac. After all 12 year old kids are never as bitter and lazy as greasy sewer rats.

The last time this happened was at InVasion when some unidentified main eventers complained that the RVD/Jeff Hardy match made it too hard to please the crowd.

Thank you, Undertaker, thank you.

Well thats because you CANT work a crowd that was already worked to the max. So if an RVD match seems to bring the house to its knees, shouldnt the night END on an RVD match?

Oh no, my bad, that means he's in the main event, oh well, just tell him to go out there and suck.

They want to make Rey Mysterio feeling Groovy. :D

Honestly, I think this is why RVD isn't headed to SummerSlam challenging the Rock for the belt. If he wins it and gets insanely over, WWE probably believes they'll have to change their entire main event scene. They'll want guys who can jump clear across the ring, not just punch stomp punch kick spinebuster.

Posted

Ehh, they don't have to change style. RVD is a bumper first and foremost; taht's what makes him so meshable. Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero can all go the same route to conform, rather than change their style.

When will Vince and Creative realize that they need to let their stars do their thing that they are good at doing. That's like telling all Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, and Soldiers to try conform to housekeeping for a living.

Did you see the interference spot in the opening match on SD? Eddie sent Rey into the ropes at 100mph and then WHAM~!

If they're telling Rey to slow down, he isn't listening too hard.

Slow down, Rey! Please!

You might do something exciting if you don't!

Even if Rey slows, (which I hope he doesn't), he'll still be the fastest thing in the company.

So the WWE might as well the 12 year old kid go hell for leather.

And why the hell are the WWE pushing Rey and Kurt?

Surely Rey Vs. Eddie makes more sense?

Then you can have Benoit Vs. Angle which can lead to a face turn for either of the two.

Maybe becuase they want Rey to get over ASAP, and they think the best way to do that is put him with the more-over-than-Eddie Kurt Angle. Really, why should WWE be putting Rey against Eddie make more sense anyway? Because they had a feud four years ago or something?

Anyway, they could be attempting to slow Rey down a bit in a bid to keep Rey healthy. Considering Rey's history of injury, that is not really a crazy idea to keep him from driving to the concrete evey week.

WWE Creative Control: "ermm, Rey, you might want to slow down your pace a little, to umm avoid injuries, yah, try to intregrate some power moves, such as the punch, kick, the spinebuster, oh wait wait, here watch this Brock Lesnar match for tips.......go get 'em champ"

Well seeing as Eddie was the one who attacked Rey after the Cena-Angle match, and Angle & Benoit were arguing about who the king of tap-outs were.

Rey is already over, they don't need to feed Angle to him.

Use the knee-uh.

HA! I'm putting this in my sig.

The reason Rey vs. Eddy makes sense is because they wrestle similar styles, quasi-lucha.

Just like Benoit and Angle makes more sense, since they both use the stiff japanese technical/crappy american main event style.

Rey vs. Angle would just be quasi-crappy style.

Goodear, the thing is is that Rey's already slowed down as it is, prior to coming to the WWE he learned to deal with his knee injuries.

Guest redbaron51

in rey's case i can see why because of his bad knees.

Has the thought ever occured to anyone that maybe WWE asked him to slow down so he doesn't turn into another Jeff Hardy, who is injured all the time and will wind up retiring in a couple years.

Posted

The thing is Rey has already learnmed to slow down, he's learned to pace his spots, he's learnmed how to use the mat game, he's learned how to sell better, he's learned how to do all these little things better so he can save his knees.

It took more than just the spots to take out Jeff. He's been wrestling the same match for the last year and a half about, he's gotten incredibly complacent with just going out there and doing his spots in the majority of his (especially non-gimmick) matches. Plus, they put him in a lot of matches where the demand was for suicidal highspots, like TLLC, table, and ladder matches; and that definately did not help.
