Guest Kojack Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 When Mick Foley came back for wrestlemania in 2000 there was a fatal four way match. Now if Foley won htherre would of been a tournament for the WW_ Title. I was pumped cause me and my friends knew that Mick Foley would proably win. But boy were we wrong! HHH ends up winning and this blows what could of been a huge thing for Back Lash to give it some credibiltly and ratings. But we were stuck wih Rock/HHH where is still marked out cause the rock wona nd Stone Cold came back but not was much as i would of for the tourney at backlast. OH DAMN YOU VINCE AND JIM ROSS AND THE WHOLE OTHER STAFF! Damn you HHH! *Converts into a HHHater*
Guest alfdogg Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Welcome aboard. *Gives Kojack the shirt*
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Um... kay. On a related note, I think that the WWF's ratings did hit their peak during the Armageddon '99-Wrestlemania XVI period. I can see why, that whole time period ruled. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I'm a Mick Foley mark but I don't know what really happened Dude. The guy wanted to retire. He didn't want a run with the belt, and his original plan was not to even see action. I don't know if you have that WM match but he barely made the table when doing the elbow off the second rope. Also, it would mean no Commissioner Foley, which means no Edge & Christian elevation, which means tag teams like Big Show & the Undertaker would still be ruling the tag scene.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Firstly, if Foley had won the WWE Title, he still could have been the Commissioner later on. Now, back to the topic. I also was getting pumped about seeing a tournament for the WWE Title which would eventually have lead to a WWE Title match between the last 2 remaining superstars at Backlash. One thing is that it still could have been HHH vs. the Rock, but still, I would have been pumped about that.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 No point in putting the title on a guy who was retiring. There's just no purpose to it. Foley didn't want to even be in the match to begin with. Let the man rest, for the love of God. Second, there was no reason to take the Title off of Trips. He was doing fine as champ and there was still money to be made in Rocky's chase after him. Foley had already given Trips the rub, and while pinning Mick again didn't really do him anything for him, jobbing Hunter to Foley would make them run the risk of lossing that rub before he could take advantage of it. There was simply no reason to book it any other way.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 They flat out couldn't take the title off of HHH. Think about it. HHH and Rock were the Main Eventers. Austin and Taker were both hurt, and Foley was retired. If Rock won that match...no one would have bought Backlash. No one.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Actually, I was also hoping that the Rock would win the WWE Title, just because by this time, I was tired of seeing HHH as the WWE Champion. Instead, Vince McMahon has to do what his son-in-law, well, ex-son-in-law wanted. By the way, I know that was all a storyline, but I had to throw that in as a reason HHH walked out of Wrestlemania 16 as the WWE Champion still.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Yup. The Chace was done excellently with HHH. He never upstaged Austin (in fact, Austin got the better of him consistantly) but you still hated the guy like crazy. Also, he defended the title enough times before WM16 that I felt that the guy had it for nearly 6 months around early December.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 but a ourney would also be predictable, everyne would already know...rock vs. hhh
Guest ShooterJay Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 We also would never have gotten the false Jericho title switch, which shot Jericho into the stratosphere as a face until Trips ruined his momentum after Fully Loaded. IMO, Jericho should have gotten a title shot at a PPV around this time, he was so over. The WWF learned this lesson with RVD, capitalizing on his overness by putting him in the No Mercy ME. Now, if they had let him STAY a ME... well, the WWF can never follow all the way through can they?
Guest the incomparable Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I am against title tournaments simply because I hate it when any titles lineage is broken. It is like a wrestling pet peeve of mine.
