SmackDown! preview for August 22, 2002

With just three days remaining until SummerSlam, SmackDown! kicks off from Fayetteville, N.C.!

What will happen between Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio? The two superstars have been at each other's throat in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. With their showdown in Long Island closing in, each will be gunning for an advantage.

Plus, Brock Lesnar and The Rock have exchanged heated words lately. But it's nearly put up or shut up time for the Next Big Thing and the People's Champion. Are both men so eager to throw down that they won't be able to wait until Sunday? Find out Thursday!

You never know what will happen on SmackDown! Don't miss it Thursday at 8 p.m./7 CT on UPN!

In addition, the non-spoiler card:

Hurricane & Shannon Moore vs. Tajiri & Jamie Noble

Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero

Kurt Angle vs. Billy Kidman

Rikishi & John Cena vs. D-Von & Batista

Nidia vs. Molly Holly

Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit vs. Edge & The Rock

I didn't read much into the spoilers as far as matches, but should be a good night wrestling wise, save for that Kish/Cena vs. D-Von and Batista match.

Hurricane & Shannon Moore vs. Tajiri & Jamie Noble

This should be a pretty sweet match, as Tajiri & Knoble showed some pretty damn good tag chemistry working together last week on Velocity (have they worked together before?), and Hurricane & Shannon Moore... well, Three Count anyone? :)

Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero

Matt's not the greatest worker in the world, but he's much better than his pop-stealing brother Jeff, and Chavo's a sorely underrated worker, so this one shouldn't be too bad either. However, since Matt's not a "true" cruiserweight (or at least hasn't been for a long while), Chavo may have to change his style a little bit, but I'm sure it'll still be watchable, if not good.

Kurt Angle vs. Billy Kidman

Rey Mysterio Jr. interference is a given, but anyone else hoping for a reunited Kidman/Mysterio tag team? This'll also be a good test of "how well Angle works with cruiserweights" and if it's good, it might even give the doubters hope about the Angle/Mysterio match on Sunday!

Rikishi & John Cena vs. D-Von & Batista

D-Von & Batista back together? Hmmmm.... who wants to bet this match is where they split up for good? Rikishi & Cena are faces, I guess Batista will turn on D-Von, leaving him alone in the ring? Oh wait, the WWE doesn't allow "face beat-downs". Eh, in the end, does anyone really care? (I do! Go D-Von! Go Batista!)

Nidia vs. Molly Holly

What, no bra and panty lingerie gravy booby match? I'm insulted... is it title or non-title?

Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit vs. Edge & The Rock

That's funny, didn't we already have this main event, like two weeks ago? Brock interferes, "they can't wait until Sunday!", if the match remains in contest, faces win, by virtue of them being faces, or Rocky wins by virtue of him probably losing on Sunday.

Molly vs. Nidia is non-title, normal stips. And yes, they just did that same main event two weeks ago. Do you want Brock there instead? :P

Of course, call me crazy but shouldn't Rock's challenger get a match before the PPV? I guess because they didn't want to have him lose in a tag match and he doesn't really have a partner he can trust. Last partner was Stasiak--that didn't last long.

Tajiri and Noble probably worked house shows together, but remember that both have previous tag experience--with Whipwreck and the Yung Dragons respectively.
