Hulk Hogan Vs. The Great Muta 5/93...

(I have posted this here, as it really wouldn't serve much purpose being in the Puroresu folder. However, if you feel is needs to be moved, then please move it to General Wreslting folder, thanks!)

This match was in that group of tapes that I just posted about, and I just watched it. Seriously, if you have ever doubted Hulk Hogan, then you owe it to yourself to download and watch this match, or just go out and buy the show/tape that the match is on. All I can say is that I am truly shocked at Hogan's showing in it, it is just so weird. It is indeed one of the greatest, if not THE greatest Hogan match of all time. Hell, Hogan working the mat, taking it to Muta, and doing an inzuguri kick = shocking as about anything I`ve ever seen, lol. It`s a great match, and I give Hogan a lot of credit for it. It took place not too long after he won the title at WM9, in May of '93, in between Wrestlemania 9 where he won the WWF World Title and King of the Ring '93 where he lost the title to Yokozuna, in case you are wondering. So in this match, he is indeed WWF World Champion. Anyhow...

...check this match out, as it should shock you, if you have never seen it before. I'm not saying he's ***** by any means, but this is a solid outing by two legends, period. Not only is the in-ring action pretty good, but there are a few "spots" both inside ther ing and outside, that are just cool as hell. I wont say what they are here, as to not spoil it for you. Just go download it, and post your thoughts on it here!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Hey Downhome, I got that same tape you have that match on. It opens up with the Muta/Hase bloodbath classic. I, too was shocked to see Hogan's work in that match. Hell, he vertical suplexed Muta on the floor, and even busted out a jujigatame (cross arm breaker). I didn't have high expectations for that match, but after watching it, it's probrably the hardest Hogan worked besides WM 6 against Warrior.

Yeah, it's great simply put, I love the match. What is that weapon that Muta uses in his matches that I keep seeing? The one he had in the bloodbath classic (I loved that match also btw), and he even pulled it out in the Hogan match. I can't make it out, do you know what it is?

He always takes some kind of rod from under the ring, I think they use it to tighten the ropes after each match. The match is from the 93 Wrestling Dontaku. I have the actual show which isn't that bad. The Hogan match is good, but the after match interview is pretty good too. Hogan talks about the WWF title being a toy that he takes when wants. I guess this put him in deep water with the suits when he came back for contract renegotiations.

As a person who has only seen the stereotypical Hogan matches, I must say I was definately pleased with that match. That was probably the best Hogan match I have ever seen.

I downloaded it off of Direct Connect. Its very helpful for getting wrestling matches.

He won with a CLOTHESLINE?

This does not inspire much respect for the combination of Hogan and Japanese wrestling.

Ugh, you should edit that as to not spoil it for anyone who has never seen it. The ending was GREAT to me, just great, for more than one reason. Anyhow, really, edit what you just said.

It's not a clothesline, it's an AXE BOMBAAHHHHHHH!!!!

Since when is Muta a legend?

I hate Muta, and I don't like those matches either. Hogan/Hansen is good, though.

Since when is Muta a legend?

Since he became one of the biggest draws in wrestling. The guy's workrate/laziness has nothing to do with it.

Well, he's certainly not a draw anymore, is he?

And I'm not sure supposed drawing power is what makes a legend a legend. I mean, really, the Muta character was what got it to legendary status. It was all a Halloween costume, as far as I've always been able to tell. Eh, I suppose if crapping all of wrestling while being "mysterious" is what makes him legendary, then it counts. I guess being a draw for any period of time doesn't always cement someone as such, in my mind.

Well, I guess my definition of "legend" is whether or not a performer can sustain a top spot on the roster for a very long period of time. That's just how I see it, and Mutoh fits that description better than most.

Ricky, Mutoh is STILL AJPW's number one draw.

He's a legend.

He's a legend.

Still? He's been with them for what? Six months? And what exactly does being "the #1 draw in AJPW mean right now? Who's he competing with? Tenryu, Kojima? This is a company that had pretty much fallen off the face of the wrestling world until a few months ago. It's not as if he's out there in mid-ninties AJPW where they were still doing good business.

And like I said, drawing power doesn't create a legend. Timelesness, attention to your craft, a possitive affect on wreslting. That's legendary. Mutoh is a lazy sack of shit who lies on his back, collects his pay check, and then claims to be saving wrestling. What a joke.

Sorry Ricky but i have to disagree.

AJPW is drawing sell-outs while NJPW buisiness is in decline, Mutoh is a big draw.

He is a legend. You suggest all Mutoh ever did was be a lazy sack of shit, and thats not quite true is it? I mean Mutoh has been involved in some awesome matches.

Oh, and I'm just curious but do you see Ricky Choshu as a legend?
