Guest HartFan86 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Pat Patterson. Only he could write a match like that. He can sure as hell book one hell of a match. I mean...I would never of thought of HBK kipping up, or HBK pulling out the mother fucking ladder. Also, that finish was so well done because everyone and their mothers knew HBK would beat him with the Superkick, but the reversal was awesome and it was just so well done. Props to the WWE and Patterson for this one.
Guest Brian Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I think Patterson was busy with Lesnar/Rock.
Guest HartFan86 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 You really think he booked the main event? I would think he would have done HBK/HHH cause it had Hogan/Rock-like tendencies.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 What makes you think there was "booking?" at all? There are no bookers for matches. There are the road agents, who cordinate everything, but I don't think Paterson is one of them, unless I'm wrong there. Anyway, I thought the spots looked nice, if anything.

Guest Brian Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Because Patterson always has a hand in helping rock work matches and it's been rumored that he would be helping them. I think HBK did that. The whole HBK was dead comments and HBK setting the expectations low and than delivering with an "HBK the performer comes back to life" match, with the old spots and the showmanship, seems like Shawn and HHH worked it out. It was pretty deep.

Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Oh, I didn't know Paterson was a road agent. So shoot me. I do know that Paterson is a huge advocate of Rock and is said to help him a lot with matches.
Guest TheHulkster Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 HBK/HHH is a whole lot better than Hogan/Rock. I would put it on par, or perhaps slightly better, than the last man standing match between HHH/Jericho from Fully Loaded. The more I think about the pacing and the certain moves they both used and even the kip up which, unlike every Rocky match, actually made sense (the timing was dead on with kip ups in every shawn michaels classic and he did it right after he hit his first trademark Shawn Michaels spot, signifying that he was playing possum and that Hunter was now about to face the Shawn Michaels of old). Even the finish was well inserted. Think about it, what was the finish to his last match in WWE? I'm going to have to watch it again tommorow.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 The difference there is long-term selling. Jericho sold like he was dead, even when he went on offense. Shawn just hopped around looking rather cheerfull, if anything. Bad selling.
Guest godthedog Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 and i think shawn would be way too proud to not plan that match out himself with trips. one thing shawn was always really good at was thinking up cool stuff for matches. he's had 4 years to think about it, you don't think he had a ton of ideas? especially the references to earlier matches--the ladder match obviously, but 'good friends better enemies' & 'mindgames'? i also think that, for this match, shawn just had to do the kip-up, for old time sake. it would be as if hulk didn't hulk up against the rock: it's just something you have to do, or the fans feel cheated (i know i would have). and i got a real kick out of seeing shawn do it again, because you could see he was JACKED and loving every minute of it.
Guest HartFan86 Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Oh, I didn't know Paterson was a road agent. So shoot me. I made that joke cause your icon under your name has a gun pointed at me.
Guest Razor Roman Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I liked the Match, too. It sort of seemed like it was based on HHH/Cactus Jack HIAC, where Shawn started out good, and then got the wind knocked out of his sails, only too pull out something amazing towards the end. Only this time Shawn won. Does that mean he was working us and will HBK be coming back full time?
Guest Brian Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 Ehh, this match was much more structured with poor selling.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 26, 2002 Report Posted August 26, 2002 I don't know about anyone, but when I was watching HHH/HBK, I wasn't thinking of selling, blown spots, whatever. I was just watching an awesome, awesome performance by a true legend. When HBK hit the elbow off the ladder, the people I watched with were out of their seats cheering, as was I. I also though Benoit & RVD was extremely boring. Should I be turning in my Smart Mark card now?
