Guest FeArHaVoC Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 This is from Scott Keith's Raw Rant. <Rob dropkicks a chair into his (Dreamer's) face and finishes with the frog splash at 8:01 to unify yet another belt into the IC belt. So now it comprises the Intercontinental, National, US, European and Hardcore titles. That’s SOME title.> When was it a "National Title?" Was it that before the Intercontinental or United States Title?
Guest Ozymandias Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 It was probably a title from the UWF since all their titles were "unified" into WCW titles when they were bought out. Hence it would've become part of the IC title belt through the US title.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Back in the 80s NWA, even prior to Watts' UWF becoming part of NWA, there were two singles titles between the World and TV titles: the US and National. They finally realized that there were too many singles titles for a small promotion, so they unified the titles. It was done so long ago that no one mentions it, so I think Keith was just bringing it up for the unification to sound more vast.
Guest Quik Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Keith knows far too much about this fucking business. He should go on "Beat the Geeks"
Guest CanadianChick Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 He should go on "Beat the Geeks" I don't think that anybody would pick the wrestling geek thoug..
Guest Ozymandias Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 I thiught he already was?? Isn't he the "TV Geek"??!!
Guest Frankie Williams Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 The National Title was a WWF title that was defended in the before the IC title. It was most notably held by Ted DiBiase in 1979.
Guest Tim Cooke Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 The real answer is the National Title was formerly the Mid Atlantic National Title in that territory. When Crockett started his merge in 1984, the title became part of the regular World Championship Wrestling program ON WTBS. It was considered at the level of the US Champion and then unified sometime in 1986. Tim
Guest Rock Candy Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 The National Title was a WWF title that was defended in the before the IC title. It was most notably held by Ted DiBiase in 1979. You mean the North American title. The National heavyweight title was an old NWA title (from the Georgia area). It was unified with the U.S. title in the mid 80s. -Ben
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Not to be confused with Jeff Jarrett's NWA North American Championship from 1997.
Guest JHawk Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 I think SK was referring to the old North American Title. Still, who the hell really cares how many titles it represents? All I care about is the IC title itself.
Guest Redhawk Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Here's my question: Why was JR calling him the "undisputed" IC champion? Was the IC title EVER in dispute after Chyna and Jericho cleaned up that whole "co-champions" crap in 2000?
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Because J.R. is a tool?
