Guest Caliban Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 According to Meltzer, Raw did a very disspointing 3.9 rating. Wow. Wasn't last week's rating a 4.0? Can't believe they dropped after a huge PPV like Summerslam. So... are people just not interested in what happened at Summerslam, or do you think the rating dropped off throughout the show? With the UnAmercians threatening a flag-burning, and the show generally sounding like it was mostly garbage, I suspect the latter is true.
Guest Mad Dog Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 It could be a number of things. We need to see the quarter hour breakdowns to see if it fell throughout the show. I hope that's what happened as it would show the WWE that they put on one of the worst shows ever. It could also be due to the fact that last weeks show wasn't very good either.
Guest eirejmcmahon Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Be interested to see what the HHH/Taker match drew.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 I'd bet good money that the Taker/HHH match did what all recent HHH segments have done... add very few viewers to the all important overrun time slot. I'm not saying they should stop making him the focus of the show... but... wait...that's exactly what I want to say here.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Maybe people are just finding something better to do than watch the show. I haven't watched a wrestling show in a long time and I haven't watched Smackdown all summer long.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 And just think... Monday Night Football starts soon. It may have not been a factor in the past...but with the current state of WWE... it just might turn 3.9s into 3.6 or so.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Hmm. It could be worse. Donnahue (on MSNBC) could be getting better ratings... Oh, and for those that don't get the joke, one of Donahue's shows recently got a .1 neilsen rating, the lowest possible.
Guest D'Lo White Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 I expect the Smackdown rating to take a bigger drop, because its pre-empted in NY again and is up against the MTV Awards.
Guest deadbeater Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Brock got punked out, Molly got eaten out, and the Unamericans got flagged out. This is how you treat the undisputed champions? No wonder ratings were soo low.
Guest Madmartigan21 Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 How hard is this to figure out? THE ROCK = RATINGS Last week The Rock was in the opening segment AND the MAIN EVENT. This week he was nowhere to be found. This 0.1 drop is really misleading. The night after the second biggest PPV of the year, which was this year's best ppv and featured the WWE's biggest star dropping the title no less, should have had some kind of a bump. Any kind of a drop is unexceptable. It will be interesting to see whether or not the Rock shows up on this week's Smackdown. And what SD's rating is this week.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Brock got punked out, Molly got eaten out, and the Unamericans got flagged out. This is how you treat the undisputed champions? No wonder ratings were soo low. Silly rabbit. This was done to make the DEDICATED HHH and Taker, the TOUGH AS A $2 STEAK New Dudleys and the AWE-INSPIRING Kane look good! The sacrifice of title belts and the men and women wearing them was WELL worth the price to try and get the above five people more over!! WWE's all about looking into the future!!
Guest Olympic Slam Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Hmm. It could be worse. Donnahue (on MSNBC) could be getting better ratings... Oh, and for those that don't get the joke, one of Donahue's shows recently got a .1 neilsen rating, the lowest possible. I can't stand Donahue, hearing that made my day. RAW wasn't that bad, I'd like to see the ratings break down compared to last week just to see what caused the change. Anyone have it?
Guest Will Scarlet Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 Oh, and for those that don't get the joke, one of Donahue's shows recently got a .1 neilsen rating, the lowest possible. How bad does one have to suck to get .1 rating? Ouch.
Guest ISportsFan Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 Rock won't show up on Smackdown, because at wwe.com they put up an interview saying Rock went to film the movie starting Monday afternoon (after some voting rally or something). Jason
Guest Akeem Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 PPV results DO NOT matter when it comes to the Raw rating the next night, because only like 1% of the WWE audience actually watches the PPV or found out the results of the PPV before Raw. Summerslam had a better card than the usual PPV this year, but there was nothing really that interesting. Brock vs Rock, everyone knew Brock would win because Rock has to go back to Hollywood, and nobody cares about Brock. HHH vs HBK, the "storyline" has been very confusing "Shawn, I did what I did to protect you" and then "Shawn you were never my best friend". And only like 15% watched WWE when Shawn Michaels wrestled, which was more than 4 years ago. To get the current fans into Shawn Michaels they showed clips of his wrestling days where he did some bumps (plenty of wrestlers do the bumps he did, so it wasn't that special). They also had a HBK/HHH boring promo where HBK said he wanted to fight for "pride" or something. Why should the marks who don't know about Michaels care about him? The rest of the card had nothing interesting. Of course on paper before the PPV you could tell that the PPV would have several good matches, but marks don't buy PPVs to see Benoit vs RVD. There needs to be interesting feuds.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 That's not true. Ratings always go up after a ppv...no matter how bad it was. SummerSlam is supposed to be a big one...and ratings went down. Brock is working out SOOO well. Not that I blame him...more the WWE handling of him...and the fact that they put someone so not good enough in this spot. HHH will eat him.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 By the way... Ratings going up after a ppv has less to do with how the how was...and more to do with people wanting to see what happened the night before.
Guest Brian Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 Plus right now with a decent pay per view audience of 300,000 even, which is porbably the low-end expectations of a big show like summerslam, that makes up close to7% of the audience.
