The following, is from 1wrestling...

The Minneapolis Star Tribune had an interesting story yesterday about Brock Lesnar, who lives in the city, winning the WWE Title.  They mentioned it in relation to his friend and former college roommate and wrestling teammate Tim Hartung's disappointment at not being able to go the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships this year.  Since the tournament is in Tehran, Iran and the US State Department feels that there is a terror risk on the US athletes, they have been advised not to go and compete.  One interesting note from the story was the following quote from Hartung.  "Brock told me a while back that it was worth $1.2 million annually once you get the belt."  No wonder everyone wants the gold. Just to clarify, what Lesnar is referring to is the increase in house show and PPV bonuses, plus cuts of merchandise that go to the champ.

...I was just wondering if any of you knew this, as I didn't. Brocky is the NEW million $ man apparently. :o :o :o

Thats a ballpark figure with business as it is right now. Angle made just over $1m in his first WWF year.

Bare in mind Rock and Austin both made $6m+ in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

I think Brock has to prove he can draw at the moment to get real money. As long as he is champ, it will be the challengers that they throw at him that will be the main draw I think.

That's just..ugh.

Makes me wish I was 6'3", looked like a bodybuilder, and could grunt. I can sure as hell do a stupid hop-dance, and shoulderblocks. Why can't I be world champ, damnit!

Advice to anyone wanting to go into wrestling. If you're over 6'4" (or 6'3" and massive) can do relatively simple moves, and can grunt, YOU TOO can be WWE Undisputed Champion!

(Disclaimer: I don't care if Lesnar is a NCAA wrestling champion. Angle was an olympic wrestler, and it shows. Lesnar is getting by because of his height..look.., not because of an undeniable blend of talent and charisma)

You sound like me talking about Macy Gray, lol. (Meaning if she can do it, it gives hope to those with TALENT.)

On Rock/Austin.

Something makes me think a hell of a lot of that 6m was merchandise.

Yep - the vast majority of it was from merchandise.

This also baffles me, because what is the f***ing point of hiring a AMATUER WRESTLER and turning him into a boring power wrestler?

The same reason as why they turned a gymnast trained in wrestling by Dean Malenko into a brawler--the WWE does not know how to handle real telent, only how to bring them down.

Who are you referring to deadbeater? Misterio? Molly? I feel so stupid now.

I heard Rock got $1 mil. just for wrestling the main at WM15.

I'd assume that the $1.2 million figure was not only an approximate figure, but was also pro-rated. i.e., if Lesnar is champ until Survivor Series, he'll get $300,000 on top of his guaranteed money.

Maybe that's just hush money from Bradshaw and JR?

don't bother flaming me, that was so stupid I'll just go out back and shoot myself now.
