Guest SmarkySmark Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Did you see those rolling vertical suplexes into the Falcon Arrow he pulled off on Rey? This boy has skills. But he's stuck with Billy and Chuck pretty much pegged as the manager that wrestles for right now. What can the WWE do different with him?
Guest NoCash Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I dont know if anyone really underestimated Rico. I think it was more of him getting saddled with a gimmick that didnt have him seeing any action unfortunately. I think, for now, hed do ok staying with his current gimmick as long as he sees more ring time (on TV). He'll have to pull away from it eventually though.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Maybe I've just heard so much canned heat on Smackdown! that I can't tell the difference anymore, but it certainly sounded like Rico had some stellar heat in his match with Rey, especially considering he's a manager of a gay tag team who never wins. The "Rico sucks" chant before he even did anything was quite impressive. He's too old to be future star, and the gimick would never make it high up the card anyway, but push him to the midcard and you've got an awesome heel to feud with guy's like Edge while they're waiting for their big pushes to come.
Guest SmarkySmark Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 How old is he? He comes across as young and is in great shape. If fans didn't know he used to be on American Gladiators fans might mistake him for being younger than he is.
Guest Army Eye Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Last I heard, Rico is 40 years old. But yes, his heat is pretty impressive, his wrestling even more so; they've got a great midcard heel on their hands here.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I remember reading from many sources that he's 40. He's just in really, really good shape, apparently.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 He is indeed forty years old. He'd be a good IC title contender, IMO.
Guest TheBlurricane Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 He has to be the youngest looking 40 year old I've ever seen......maybe it's the Side burns that make him look younger
Guest welshjerichomark Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 he is also the best looking 40 year old like everrrrr, i can't understand for the life of me why female teenage wrestling fans mark-out for jeff hardy when ricos is there in his sexy suits
Guest bob_barron Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I love Rico!... NOT THAT WAY! I love how funny he was as B-n-C's manager and I hope they push him. He beats John Cena
Guest The Prodigy Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Honestly Sean O'Haire is the most underrated of the year. Rico is good, but he is old and doest have the "Superstar build" to main event. But you've got edge so you never know.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Rico is awesome. He plays his character perfectly and in such a way that it doesn't come off as embarassing. John Cena and Orton's characters are FAR more embarassing. His ring work is definitely unique, whether it translates into good matches is another thing. He kind of reminds me of Steve Blackman, and his matches were hit and miss as well. It sounds like the guy is getting great heat (hard to tell with Smackdown) so he deserves to be more than just the awesome manager that he is. I'm betting a short I.C program with RVD would be highly entertaining. He shouldn't win the belt, but a shot at the belt and a high profile star might do wonders for him.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Rico is the only reason Billy & Chuck ever got over. He needs to break away from those two and leave them to languish in Velocity. I would like to see a RVD/Rico program as well. EDIT: WWE is also pretty obtuse for being so hesitant on bringing him up from the developmentals. Then again, they avoided signing Mysterio for months so that says a lot, doesn't it....
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 I think Funaki still holds the distinction of being the most underrated wrestler of 2002 as the Rico love is MUCH MUCH MORE than the Funaki love.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Well, I guess that's because Funaki is primarlity on Metal/Jakked (well, until his recent *cough*announcer*cough* job) and doesn't get as much a chance to show what he can do. Rico seems to be doing very well with a gimick that was never intended to be anything but comedy to begin with. So he's got the Honky Tonk Man appeal, I suppose. Definitely deserves to be used more than they're using him now.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 That sad thing is, if you take Rico Constantino away from Billy and Chuck, he loses all his heat. The Stylist gimmick needs to go, but I cant figure that the WWE would give him a gimmick thats any better. Maybe he could rip off on Steve Blackman and Be all serious and deadly with the martial arts. I dunno, but I do agree he is Underated. I saw him wrestle AJ Styles in a dark match prior to Smackdown back in January, and I was marking out like crazy cause I had never seen Styles live, but Rico impressed me much more, and the crowd was like "BLAH"..
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 He can easilly do the stylist gimick without them. Just make him a "stylist for higher" or something and there's his gimick.
Guest BaldFish Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 He can easilly do the stylist gimick without them. Just make him a "stylist for higher" or something and there's his gimick. Stylist for higher? But RVD is on RAW!
Guest Redhawk Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 The question is whether he can get heel heat outside of the gay gimmick. Of course, ANYONE who plays a gay character is gonna get massive heel heat. It is wrestling, after all. If he can get the same heat by just being a bad guy (a la Triple H in 2000, Jericho today)
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 I disagree. Billy and Chuck weren't getting much of any heat even though they were blatantly gay. Goldust's character is hugely homo-erotic and he never got much heat as a heel. Rico's heat isn't the "lets chant 'foggot' at the funny gay dude" type heat. Besides, his gimick hardly seems to be centered around his sexuality at all. Now, maybe being a stylist and talking the way he does is enough for wrestling fans to declare him to as a homesexual, but he hardly uses it for cheap heat the way Billy and Chuck do.
Guest Redhawk Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 You're somewhat right. Rico isn't totally blatant is his supposed gay-ness. But Goldust used to get some major heel heat. I remember the crowd going nuts when Piper basically tarred and feathered him at Wrestlemania 12. And Billy and Chuck used to get major heel heat when they were more blatantly gay and were also tag champs.
Guest HossSauce Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 Rico also looks better when has 160-pound Rey Mysterio to throw around. That's like wrestling with a dummy.
Guest Anglesault Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 and you've got an awesome heel to feud with guy's like Edge while they're waiting for their big pushes to come. Rico is the gay stylist manager of a gay tag team that never wins. Do we REALLY need Edge to humiliate him further? Edge: You're gay, and a dork! You're a GAYORK! ::Edge oulls Rico's pants down, puts a wig on him, rips it off and spears him.::
Guest SmarkySmark Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 It's more than just his match with Rey. He's impressed me against other guys too. He's sharp and has good timing. And he doesn't do uneccesary things in the ring.
Guest CanadianChick Posted August 31, 2002 Report Posted August 31, 2002 He would make a very strong IC title contender. His skills are pretty impressive and he's very good looking..oh I mean in shape!

However, did you ever consider that, since Edge can't play to anyone but the lowest common demoninator anyway, he might as well do it against someone who is already a storeotype to begin with? I mean, I shudder to think what lame jokes Edge could make up with about HHH. "You're just a SPAZ man!! Maybe if you weren't so MAD about everything, you'd realize how SPAZTIC you look!!! HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!"
