Guest Mad Dog Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 from 411: While most internet critics feel that RAW has a much weaker talent roster than Smackdown, word is that WWE is thinking the opposite. WWE apparently feels that RAW has more marquee names than Smackdown. This information may come in handy when predicting future talent jumps. All I gotta say is are these people smoking crack?
Guest Akeem Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Smackdown has Lesnar, Benoit, Edge, Guerrero, Angle, Undertaker Raw has Kane, RVD, HHH, Flair 6-4, Smackdown wins
Guest HartFan86 Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Raw's getting higher ratings SD, so why should they not think that? Obviously the better quality show is SD, but the statement about Raw having better talent than SD is crazy. Angle, Eddie, and Benoit have more talent than anyone on the Raw roster itself.
Guest Brian Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Hasn't SmackDown gotten more viewers and a larger share for the better part of six weeks? Anybody want to convert the numbers?
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 What Vince wants to go back to is the old Attitude days where he was making money, the ratings were good, and he was running the how he liked it: Namely, Jerry Springer style segments of monster trucks driving over cars and girls stripping left and right, all in plot developments for a storyline that may, if you're lucky, lead up to a wrestling match. Smackdown is like shades of ECW mixed with 97 WCW or something. But suffice it to say, in Vince's Ideal World, there is minimal wrestling on his wrestling show.

The shades of gray, Attitude era type stuff is what is killing pro wrestling, IMO. It was fine as a trend, but it has no longevity.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Now would be a good time to point out a previous post I made. Remember when RAW was better...but HHH was on SD! and JR always went on about how much better SD! was? Well...HHH moved to RAW. So I asked...how long would it take before they said that RAW was better? The answer was...not long.
Guest art_vandelay Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 In terms of Marquee Names: Raw: Y2J, RVD, HHH, Kane, Flair SD: Undertaker, Angle I wouldn't count Lesnar, Edge, Benoit and Guerrero up there just yet.
Guest Akeem Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 >In terms of Marquee Names: >Raw: Y2J, RVD, HHH, Kane, Flair >SD: Undertaker, Angle >I wouldn't count Lesnar, Edge, Benoit and Guerrero up there just yet. Jericho is definitely not a marquee name, because he NEVER wins. Lesnar is a marquee name because he has been PUSHED and has won the world title (unlike Jericho who just won the world title and looked like a jackass). Edge is definitely on the same level as RVD is. Benoit and Guerrero are both Smackdown main eventers and look pretty good most of the time (unlike Jericho).

I don't think it matters whether someone is currently winning or not, they just have to be known. Crowds are certainly more responsive towards RVD than Edge. Neither Eddy nor Benoit have received significant pushes in the past, nor have they accomplished any great goals. Jericho has been in the upper eschelon of the roster longer than any of the mentioned names, and has been the world champ to boot. Lesnar is still very new. What it comes down to is, who's more familiar to the fans, more specifically, the casual fans.
Guest Akeem Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Jericho is not a marquee name because he does not get good reactions at all as a heel. As a face, in most of 2000, Jericho was a marquee name because he was very over.
Guest art_vandelay Posted September 4, 2002 Report Posted September 4, 2002 Fine, take Jericho out. You're still left with: Raw: RVD, HHH, Kane, Flair SD: Undertaker, Angle And might I say that I wish you were right. With the way they're thinking, it looks as though more crap may be corroding the fine talent roster of SD.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 "Edge is definitely on the same level as RVD is. " That makes you, Vince and JR that think that.
Guest AndrewTS Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Raw has a stronger roster...yeah, sure. RVD, Storm, Dreamer, Molly, Nowinski, and Booker are on Raw..which I all like. BUT SD has the Cruisers, Benoit, Eddy, Rock, etc. My favorites on SD I pretty much like much more on SD. On SD I never have to see HHH. They've kept Steph to a minimum on SD. If WWE trusted the roster of Raw so much, they wouldn't have have Flair and HHH wrestle twice. So I think it's all bull. But Raw USED to have the better roster.
Guest AndrewTS Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 "Edge is definitely on the same level as RVD is. " That makes you, Vince and JR that think that. HAHAHAHAH!! Maybe in the area of mic skills, but as far as ring skills, his popularity and overness--RVD blows Edge away. Both have flaws, of course, but Edge matches usually bore me, because he has to be in there with a good wrestler to make an entertaining match. RVD's offense alone is enough to make most matches exciting. Sorry...but I can't get excited about Edge at all. RVD I mark out for like...well, The Flyboy almost.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Oh, my God.... Get the audio from "Mr McMahon's Utopia" mixed with video from RAW...like lingerie/creamy thing matches, midgets, skits, etc. Lord help us.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 That makes you, Vince and JR that think that. Don't forget me.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 RVD hatred aside... Do you honestly think that Edge would be as beleivable plugged into the Main Event right at this moment as RVD would?
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Storylinewise, no. Abilitywise, yes.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 I agree with that. I'm not talking about ability wise while guys like Eddy and Benoit and Angle aren't top guys. When I talk about guys in the WWE, I'm talking about star power and beleivability as a top guy. I could have done without all the false elavations to this point, but WWE has done a good job protecting RVD...especially considering what happened to the rest of the Invasion bunch. I beleive he is now, as he was the day of the Invasion ppv on...more ready than Edge.
Guest HartFan86 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 I beleive he is now, as he was the day of the Invasion ppv on...more ready than Edge. I never understood why the WWF didn't go with RVD in that main event. He was more over than 3/4 of the roster that show as well. It should of been RVD, Booker, DDP, Rhyno, whatever vs. Taker, Kane, Austin, Jericho, Angle. Ugh....I probably shouldn't go on a tirade about the InVasion angle....so I'll shut up now.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 Actually...I don't blame them for that. RVD wasn't anything until his Invasion match with Jeff Hardy opened WWE fans eyes to him. It was obvious they figured it out by the end of the Invasion...he Main Evented No Mercy, became the main angle of the Alliance....got wins over every top star...and was the last person eliminated in the SS main evented that didn't play into the finish (IE: Rock and Austin, and Jericho and Angle, who interfered). By the end of Invasion, it had become the RVD show. Which was probably when they should have pulled the trigger on his main event push. Then they had another opportunity in January with Jericho... Then another with Taker in May... Then another in June at KOTR... Now another in September with HHH... I don't know how many people on the roster could have that many blown chances...and still be right there. I don't think Edge could.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted September 5, 2002 Report Posted September 5, 2002 yeah...Jericho. wait...what? Are you pointing out that false elavations can bite you in the ass?
