Guest Dangerous A Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 I've heard from several people on the board that Rock makes more money for Vince doing movies than wrestling. While I see that for "Scorpion King" because he needs Rock to PR the flick because WWE and Vince are getting a production credit and a piece of the back end of the gross, I am wondering how is Vince profitting off of Rock for "Helldorado" or the unnamed King Kamehameha flick when WWE isn't exactly promised any of those profits? Is Vince taking a percentage of Rock's salary or something? I wonder these things cause it looks like the casual fans are starting to pick up that Rock is an actor doing wrestling on the side and not a wrestler doing acting on the side hence the booing at Summerslam and whatnot. The thing is, if you look at the Scorpion King and using info from the Observer, over half the folks who saw Scorpion King saw it cause they were wrestling fans and wanted to see the Rock. Scorpion King was semi successful, but did fall a little short of expectations in terms of gross. Rock is only drawing half the wrestling audience. Can Rock draw just regular folks though? Can Rock draw your mom or dad or non wrestling fan friend to a movie? Plus if wrestling fans are starting to boo him because of the perception I listed above, then can he even draw wrestling fans to movies?
Guest Dangerous A Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 And yes, I just discovered I misspelled Money. My most sincer apologies.
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 Isn't it in Rock's contract that he can't do projects outside of WWE without Vince's permission? ... So maybe it's tied to that. I think it's some sort of a clause in all WWE contracts. I remember hearing about it with SCSA, anyway.
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 You also misspelled "sincere". Damn you Steve...
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 It's to do with the fact that The Rock can't call himself The Rock without approval and official lisencing from the WWE, and the makers of these films believe there's more name value in The Rock than Dwayne Johnson, so the studios are prepared to give Vince a chunk of money so they can use the name The Rock in the credits and on promotional material.
Guest deadbeater Posted September 9, 2002 Report Posted September 9, 2002 Also, Vince gets credit as an executive producer for the movies (after all, he is paying Rock's salary).
