Guest treble charged Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 As far as I can tell, there are 4 news stories from this year that stand out above the rest. They are: The return of the nWo -Sure, nothing really came of it, as Hall was gone within a few months, Nash has been injured for most of the time, and Hogan turned face after about a month, but it was still something to see those 3 men back on WWF TV again. 'Get The F Out' -Yup, Vince is forced by a bunch of panda lovin' hippies to change the name of his company. There's not much more to add to it, besides that the McMahons now own the WCW name, but not the WWF one. That's kind of funny. Steve Austin goes home -The man who is basically responsible for turning the WWF around and making them the company they are today gets upset with the direction of his character just up and leaves, giving no notice. This, coupled with the accusations of spousal abuse that came out after, was rather shocking to many WWE fans. The Bisch is back -Very few people ever thought that we'd see Eric Bischoff on WWE TV. But, out of nowhere one July night, there he was. Whether you love or hate him, seeing him and Vince McMahon hug on Raw was one of those surreal markout moments that are all too rare. Well, those are the 4 that I can think of off the top of my head. If anyone else has any, please add them. Discuss.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 I'm just gonna say that out of those four stories, I marked out the most for the return of the nWo. Sure, I never watched WCW that much, but I knew who the nWo were, and when WCW went under, I was just waiting for the nWo to debut in the WWE. Since I didn't watch No Way Out, I had to mark out on RAW the next night. Then, it just went downhill for them No matter what, though, I'm always an nWo fan 4 life.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 The "Plane Ride From Hell" was more entertaining then all of them.
Guest treble charged Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 The "Plane Ride From Hell" was more entertaining then all of them. Yeah, but nothing big came of that. Really, the only fall-out was Curt Hennig losing his job, and he had only been back for a few months by that point anyway. It was funny reading all the stories that came out of it, but it wasn't really a huge story in the long run.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 I'm gonna say in order of importance that Austin leaving is #1, since that walk-out really signified something, be it ego or a real sign that the company's gone to waste. A close second is Bischoff's return, simply because, unlike most SHOCKING SWERVES~! that was actually unexpected. Who would've thunk it? As someone who never really got to see WCW, I never saw the Bisch until now, and now I'm sad I didn't watch more, as he's really an entertaining figure. Better than Vince anyway...
Guest the 1inch punch Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 The "Plane Ride From Hell" was more entertaining then all of them. Yeah, but nothing big came of that. Micheal Hayes lost his mullet, that has to count for something
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 One of the news stories that hit me was the fact that WWE ratings were going way down. At one point, I was thinking that the WWE was about to turn into WCW and completely fail!
Guest HartFan86 Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 nWo was the biggest wrestling angle, Austin leaving was big, but he'll be back so it won't matter, Bischoff was the biggest return as a non-wrestling personality, and the biggest news story of 2002.....WWF becomes WWE.
Guest razazteca Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 the stories that got the most media awareness of the wrestling world are: losing the court case to the Panda and name change Austin is a real redneck WWE using gay sex as a main story angle, as if men playing in their underwear or wearing costumes was not gay enough
Guest chirs3 Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Oh, and.. "Wrestling is FAKE!" *faints*
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 Oh, and.. "Wrestling is FAKE!" *faints* No it's not! Like when Steve Austin peed on Arn Anderson! You may say that was water with yellow food coloring, but I know he really whipped out his johnson and pissed on that motherfucker!
Guest The Superstar Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 How could you forget the BRAND EXTENSION~!?
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted September 24, 2002 Report Posted September 24, 2002 4. Kevin Nash tears his quad 3. Brand Extension 2. Brock Lesnar gets pushed to the moon 1. Austin goes away
Guest Olympic Slam Posted September 25, 2002 Report Posted September 25, 2002 Austin leaving is the biggest story, but it's close. Remember the night after Royal Rumble 2002, Austin said he had a big announcement and that was he was officially entering himself into the 2003 Royal Rumble. It was a hilarious announcement because it was a forgone conclusion that Austin would be in next year's Rumble, and the one after that and the one after that. Here we are four months away from RR 2003 and it doesn't look like Steve will be around to fullfill his announcement. Who would have thunk it?
