Guest big Dante Cruz Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 I'm not going to say this is the only reason. I'm going to say that this is one of the reasons. Most of these up-and-comers are fairly vanilla. They don't really get so over because there isn't anything to them. Bear in mind that I'm exempting Lesnar from this. He's got a character. He has one, we leave it at that. John Cena and Randy Orton are the first two that come to mind. What is it about them? Well, nothing really. Do they even have finishes? No, they're just "young lions" but how are they really threats? It seems like they're solid and good wrestlers, but every win seems like an upset. Bear in mind that other successful wrestlers have signature moves, they have attitudes, everything built off of a character of some sort. The Rock got the People's Elbow from being a cocky prick and just kept it. Stuff like that. If these young guys were allowed to have characters instead of just being "John Cena, that young guy" then I think they'd be far more than they are now.
Guest razazteca Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Shelton Benjamin has a finisher but no character development yet Still waiting for Shelton to form tag team with either D-Lo or Booker T or O'Haire
Guest Brian Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Fuck that. Benjamin needs to work on his own. Bring him to SmackDown.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Why would you want Booker tagging with a guy just up from OVW (last couple months, anyway)? That would be a *huge* step back for Booker.
Guest razazteca Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Shelton & O'Haire could work an angle with Billy & Chuck, since Sean used to be Palumbo's partner back in WCW and the Invasion angle. Since Shelton is the best athlete with educated feet out of the 4 he would stand out, then the ol and important singles push could build up steam. the old formula of tag teams = 2 guys with no direction; or grooming them for the monster singles push. exception Billy as he is career tag team worker.
Guest razazteca Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 well using WWE logic all black wrestlers are brothers so they could work Shelton as Booker T's cousin or nephew or whatever. Houston Heat 2k2 = Booker T, D-Lo, Shelton
Guest Pop Culture God Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Shelton + D'Lo = DOOM 2002 If you don't remember how badass DOOM were... you're not a *true* NWA fan.
Guest jester Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 Orton and Cena don't have a personality yet. When Cena started, it looked like they were going to give him a persona like "The respecful rookie who won't take crap." Then they had him do some lame comedy, and pretty much forgot him after that. Now, like Orton, he's just sort of there, like the other newcomers. So Orton's a third generation wrestler. So what? You might as well tell me his favorite colour is orange. It doesn't give me a reason to care about him. If they did something like one of the old boys who remembers his dad. like Hogan, tell him his dad was a piece of shit (since he played the heel and hung out with piper) and that the acorn probably didn't fall far from the tree. That would give him an angle to build something off of.
Guest art_vandelay Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 So Orton's a third generation wrestler. So what? You might as well tell me his favorite colour is orange. Ha! The problem is that their characters (if they have any) are just that – vanilla and boring. I could have said the same thing about Matt Hardy just 2 months ago, but now look at him. They're fine wrestlers, but there's nothing there that makes me want to pay attention or give two shits whether they win or lose. But I think with the young rookie characters, there's tons of potential for a strong heel turn.
Guest razazteca Posted September 27, 2002 Report Posted September 27, 2002 I don't think DLo likes mask, remember the turbin, from Low Down Butch & Ron were cool
