Unforgiven backstage notes

One of the top stories in this week's Observer is the backstage happenings from last week's ppv. Here are some notes from the story, cause I ain't typing the whole thing.

Original booked finish was Lesnar to score controversial pinfall over Taker and that after the match, Taker would go berserk and bloody Lesnar and do something like throw him through a wall. Patterson was the agent in charge of laying out the match and felt it needed a finish, same with SD writer Paul Heyman. Taker was very negative toward a pinfall finish feeling if he lost by pin, there would be no reason to do a rematch. Taker was able to convince Vince McMahon to change the finish. Taker then worked the match to look strong since he is the top babyface chasing the belt. There was a feeling that Taker took too much off Lesnar and hurt Lesnar's unstoppable force aura by not losing and then dominating him afterwards. It came across to some that he refused to do a job and made himself look strong but didn't make anyone else in the match look strong. There was a feeling that Taker powerbombing Matt without selling for him, that the idea Hardy was getting a rub by hanging out with the big guys was a joke.

Regarding the HLA situation. The decision was made to put the HLA stipulation where Steph would have to have hot lesbian action in front of the crowd, right before the main event. This was pushed even more than the ME's.

HHH has a lot of heat among many who felt that the classic old-style world title match he had with RVD was done intentionally to expose Van Dam's weaknesses. The flip side of the argument is that HHH wanted to work the classic NWA world champion style match. There is a feeling that HHH has in meetings spoken up in recent weeks against Van Dam being pushed harder, that this was and example of him trying to make his point because everyone knows RVD has weaknesses and the key is avoiding them. But they still had a decent match and Van Dam was allowed to do enough flashy stuff to get over. But there was even more heat because of the feeling HHH maneuvered Flair into working with RVD as opposed to building to a rematch, which only leaves Kane or Bubba Dudley as contenders.

That is the gist of it. I didn't want to get too much into Meltzer's opinions and just wanted to get to the points that you might not see unless you get the Observer.

Its just too much money to order. I can't justify the 50 bucks for like only 20 weeks.

God forbid a babyface ever lose to set up a re-match. Is Taker oblivious, or just a morron?

Vince may be the stupidest man alive.

Yeah, since when did a face lose by dubious means and NOT get a rematch? Taker is an asshole, I feel stupid for trying to defend him in the past. He deserves no credit anymore.

The HHH stuff makes me groan. I mean is he that fucking stupid? Does he not even want to draw any money? I mean, does he not realize that no one wants to see him vs. Bubba Ray or against Kane?

Would Triple H really care about drawing money at this point? He already makes top Dollar by pretty much being Family.

HHH and Undertaker are the main problems in WWE today. It is a shame Vince or Jim Ross can't see this, or they can and just don't care.

It doesn't sound like HHH is too much at fault here but fuck you Taker

I really could care less about Taker/Lesnar, but HHH/RVD annoys me.

Actually HHH's plan backfired, even though the match with him and RVD wasn't that good, it was mostly due to the fact that Crips was sucking the life out of the match while everytime Rob did his moves the crowd erupted. And now that Bubba is injured HHH has to wrestle and hopefully this time get to job the title to RVD. But this nonsense with HHH has to stop why doesn't Vince realize that his business will not exist thanks to that steroid bastard Crips, come on Vince whatever happened to your grapefruit size balls???????

Bubba was cleared to wrestle.

Oh great ***** Match Baby. Are they that stupid to push a Bubba HHH Main Event. He once Main Evented in ECW but he wasn't advertised to. Even Heyman knows he cant draw.

Bubba was cleared to wrestle.

... And, there was much rejoice. -_-

Bubba cleared to wrestle??????!!! I hope he fumbles again when he is about to do another powerbomb on HHH, ala Bob Holly. :firedevil:

Oh, so that explains the sleeper hold revival <_<

Also, maybe Flair should try to teach HHH some of the finer points of the old school style.

HHH: So Flair-uh, this is where I start to suck, right?

Flair: No Hunter, this is the part where you kick ass.

HHH: Oh.

Flair: You can start sucking when RVD kicks some ass

HHH: Van Dam?! What the hell do you know about NWA, Flair? *poses, spits water*

And "Old School" becomes more superfluous by the day. Pretty soon Taker and HHH will be CUTTING EDGE!~!~!

HHH will be CUTTING EDGE~!~!~!~! in his grave, fo sheez. That's why he's the Game.

It all makes sense now. Think about it.

HHH wants to work NWA-Style matches.

HHH wants to be a Flair-like champion.

Bubba works in Dusty Rhodes-style spots.

HHH versus Bubba is Flair versus Rhodes for a new, old-school/cutting-edge age.

Note to self. Hang self from celing fan before sunset.

Bubba better be careful, or people are gonna start calling him the American Dream Bubba Dudley. Does that make Big Dick a garbageman?

Bubba was cleared to wrestle.

Goddamn it. That means the Nut Grab of Doom returns.

HHH has the same problem Hogan did in WCW: he fails to realise that if the company makes money everyone wins, and that means sometimes you have to job.

I hate HHH.

He's fucking with the only shit I care about now.

i actually liked the flair/steamboat-ness of trips/rvd, what with the arm drags & the headlocks and all. didn't look crisp at all, but it was different.

all in all, i thought trips made rvd look pretty good. rob got in a HUGE flurry of offense when he made the comeback, and didn't look any less of a threat before the match than after the match.

I am enjoying the Flair HHH. The suit, the Rolex and its getting him heat... except for the popping of the crowd for his entrance.

...and...

it gives him an excuse to not face the only legit person on the roster for him to be facing.

It's all good.

Which is why he needs new music.

Listen, RVD is going to get a rematch with HHH. I think this stuff with Flair and Bubba is just side crap till a rematch at Series.

The thing with HHH that is so stupid is that it would actually BENEFIT him to job to RVD. He can thus have a new rival and have a serious feud, and shockingly enough that might draw money!

They won't change HHH's music, that might sell CDs.

When they do a turn, they should totally change everything from music to ring tactics. They've half-done it with HHH, and not in a good way (the new sleeper finisher).

I think deep down HHH still really wants to be a beloved face, another reason he won't stop spitting water or get new music. The crowd still pops for that.

Although, whenever I hear "Time to play the game," I have to hold down my lunch.

I used to think that if HHH improved, I wouldn't mind him anymore. These days, I don't know. Even if he turned into a guy with super skills, charisma and put over people legit, I am so sick of him I'd just want him to get hit by a truck.

But he'd probably show up the next Raw fine.
