Guest subliminal_animal Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 You know, since the IC Title is gone, there are obviously no more secondary singles titles in the company (I don't count women's, tag and cruiser since they're separate divisions). For midcard guys, the IC gives them something to work for. Guys like Tommy Dreamer, Hurricane, Steven Richards. Guys who will never get the World Title with assholes like Triple H bogarding it. If I was them, I'd be feeling pretty unmotivated to continue going on knowning they won't have much to show for it. Plus titles have always been used as a keystone for midcard/undercard feuds. They focus so much on the main eventers nowadays, and the secondary titles were like a crutch. They could have two guys fight over them to bail them out as a result of their not paying attention making good midcard feuds. These are my thoughts, though they're not put together too well. I don't know...I'm just yapping. Any comments? No? Okay then.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 Well, they could always have guys feud over "HHH is awesome!" vs. "No he's not!" The way they're going, would that really surprise anybody?
Guest razazteca Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 wait unlil next week when your god Eric Bishoff brings back the prestigious title.......The Western Heritage Title that had great wrestlers like Larry Zybrisco and Barry Windham as champions.
Guest notJames Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I can kinda see the direction their going in. Bear with me for a second... When I think of the "World Champion", I think of the best of the best, bar none. When I see more than one belt, I think, "Hmmm, what differentiates one from another?" It's like boxing: too many belts prohibits the truly great ones from standing out. Sure you can have them to separate weight classes, but what makes the IC champion any less worthy of praise than the World Champion? It's like what a lot of the wrestler say in interviews: "I entered this business for one reason -- to be the World Heavyweight champion." They should build the entire roster around that one concept. If you give them options for going after other championships, it takes away from the prestige of the World title. In an ideal world where all wrestlers are equal, this would hold true. However, a Crash Holly has little hope of matching up against a Kurt Angle in the World Title scene. I can see what their ultimat goal might be, but it just won't cut it in the environment that's laid out before them.
Guest Goodear Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I have a question for the "I miss the IC Title" set... who was the last guy tha actually got elevated by the title? I'm just asking since I can't remember.
Guest CanadianChris Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I have a question for the "I miss the IC Title" set... who was the last guy tha actually got elevated by the title? I'm just asking since I can't remember. Probably The Rock, back in 1997-98...before that, probably Razor Ramon.
Guest Brian Posted October 2, 2002 Report Posted October 2, 2002 I think Triple H was elevated after SS'98, but that was more of the match. Maybe Chyna, sine she couldn't bring the title down to her level and people started to think she might be a threat to the men. Then, she started wrestling more.
Guest Goodear Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 So the title hasn't elevated anyone in five years? Yeash... who cares if it goes away then since thats all the I-C title was good for anyway?
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 Am I the only one that thinks, regardless of how the PPV turns out, that there will be more than one singles title on RAW? Whether it's a screw job at the PPV, or a new title created a few weeks/months down the line, or whatever else, I don't think this is happening to create only one title on Raw. But then again, there's a big part of me that thinks the WWE has NO IDEA what's planned for beyond this week, so the writers haven't even thought of the repercussions of eliminating every belt besides the RAW Title.
Guest Trivia247 Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 they do have Booking on the fly feel to it lately, with all these impromptu matches and don't know what the hell they are doing. IC title retiring is a obvious example.
Guest BaldFish Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I don't know if it's been pointed out, but the Kane/HHH match hasn't officially been declared a unification match. It's like the Hogan/Warrior match, where the winner just has both belts.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 If it is a unification match, i.e. bye bye IC belt, then Vince is shooting himself in the foot yet again unless he gets some better writers. The fed's storylines lately have been really lacking, and without the crutch of "You got a belt--I want it!", we'll probably be having even more pointless singles matches on the undercard.
Guest Human Fly Posted October 3, 2002 Report Posted October 3, 2002 I don't know if it's been pointed out, but the Kane/HHH match hasn't officially been declared a unification match. It's like the Hogan/Warrior match, where the winner just has both belts. I pulled this off of wwe.com: Should Kane continue his hot streak, he'll find himself in a battle against the World Heavyweight Champion at No Mercy. Eric Bischoff revealed his plan to unify the IC Title and the World Heavyweight Championship at the October pay-per-view! I still say it's a dumb idea. Since HHH's belt is the only belt I'm afraid that every week he'll make a defense. The defense itself isn't what concerns me. What concerns me is that he's going to be defending it half of the time against guys like Spike Dudley and we're just going to get squash matches every week on TV for the World title. If they only want to have one Champ for one show, then they should make the IC a Heat only title. Only have it defended on Heat but have the Champ himself able to compete on Raw, just not defend the Title. That way guys like D-Lo, Raven, etc. could be on Raw, Raw would only have one title, and the IC would really be an tool of elevation.
