Guest AndrewTS Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 WWE Smackdown finished with a 3.4 rating and a 5 share this week. That number is down from the 3.6 rating the show has gotten for the last few weeks. Credit: 1millionpopupswrestling.com That bitching tag match and we lose ratings? Or could it be the rest of the show sucked, or Raw's shittiness hurt WWE as a whole?
Guest nikowwf Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I'm with Raw's shittiness hurting Smackdown. I wasn't dying to see Smackdown like I usually am because Raw just killed me. NiKO
Guest Pop Culture God Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Guys, ratings are most effected by how the shaow was LAST week. Last week's show was mediocre. Next's weeks ratings will be there.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I think the universe changed the moment that Trips said Kane was a murderer. Raw's rating is up, Smackdown's is declining. Why were none of us affected by this shift in the quantum mechanics of everything? Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Well, you know Vince when something like this happens.... Vince:"Damn it! Benoit, Angle, Eddy, and Chavo shouldn't be almost at the top of the card anymore! Put Chavo back on Velocity, and job Eddy, Angle, and Benoit out to Rikishi and Mark Henry in a handicap tag team match, and give my daughter more airtime and put more focus on The Undertaker's angle that involves him sleeping with another woman!"
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Raw's rating went up... That was an error--it was the same as last week.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 No it got the same rating as last week, but last week's Raw was rounded up to a 3.8, so this week's Raw got a slightly higher rating.

NiKO I'd agree, even though I just read results and watched the women's match. In fact, I forgot about SD! being on and completely missed "Dork!/seis-uno-nueve" vs. "Damn!/OH TESTIFY!"
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 No it got the same rating as last week, but last week's Raw was rounded up to a 3.8, so this week's Raw got a slightly higher rating. So basically--didn't help at all, really. And they've pulled out all of the shock value crap--nothing really they can do now to surpass it besides getting stupider. Yet I fear next Raw gets a high rating because of the PPV.
Guest ISportsFan Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 What was the main angle of the show? The Undertaker and his cast. So, the lower rating means that the viewers could care less about UT and his cast. Jason
Guest DJ Jeff Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Even though I didn't watch Smackdown, I did read the spoilers though. Judging from them, I thought Smackdown would have got a higher rating.

So, the lower rating means that the viewers could care less about UT and his cast. Jason Wrong...WWE logic? Does not compute. OrtonTaker is a hoss and is mega over, thus everyone cares about all his matches and every facet of them including the cast and the ring rats he's banged, duh! It's those damned vanilla midgets' fault with their long matches without power moves out the wazoo, stalling, bearhugs, restholds and all that other stuff that draws viewers.
Guest BA_Baracus Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Simple equation... ...the more Undertaker there is on the show, the lower the ratings go. There wasn't a segment without the Undertaker this week.
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Simple equation... ...the more Undertaker there is on the show, the lower the ratings go. There wasn't a segment without the Undertaker this week. I'm hoping that Heyman will point this out, including the fact that THE MAIN EVENT WAS A FREAKIN' INTERVIEW! Probably this bullshit was foisted on Heyman as part of the new direction, so hopefully he'll speak out how this is dragging the show down... Of course, the WWE brass and the yesmen think the Raw angles were a huge success and the ratings seem to support them--no matter how bad, so he may be fighting an uphill battle with concrete shoes on.
Guest Pop Culture God Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I'd like to say one thing. Power moves in and of themselves are not bad. Angle and Benoit use them constantly, (Germans, Belly-To-Belly,) I have seen great power matches. Sloppy, Slow, power moves are bad. But not any worse than sloppy, slow, submission stuff.

I don't really consider those power moves--they take power but most of the wrestlers can do them. Benoit kinda has a tech/power aspect going. I consider them technical, with power moves being the moves intended to show off strength like presses, powerslams, powerbombs, spinebusters and so on. The kind of moves you'd expect to see from a HOSS BAH GAHD! Because a GOOD (emphasis on good) power wrestler i.e. Bulldog in his prime, Furnas--or was is Lafon (sorry about my memory), etc have as much potential to have a solid, impressive psychological match as anyone else. The problem is when you have immobile lumps of humanity like Henry who bores the shit out of people with restholds, bearhugs, and sloppy moves a'plenty. However, between them Vince loves the big men.
Guest art_vandelay Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I'm hoping that Heyman will point this out, including the fact that THE MAIN EVENT WAS A FREAKIN' INTERVIEW! About a fucking cast!
Guest Pop Culture God Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I agree with most of that. I'd just like to say that spinebusters, press slams, powerslams, they can be fun too. It's just that most of the time they're performed by talentless slugs. I watched WCW in 92 and 93 and I always thought Ron Simmons and Vader could be excellent although Vader was a much better worker. The Stieners were GODS for what, 5 years? Of course, then the drugs got to them. Sasaki in NJPW, isn't bad at all. Kojima is pretty good too. Brock could be great, but he needs more time.
Guest Pop Culture God Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Oh, and when I said I thought Simmons could be excellent I was referring to Ron Simmons while he was in Doom.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Furnas was the one that did the power-hoist, right?
Guest Pop Culture God Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 Furnas did a sick German suplex and a great powerslam. LaFon did a great Reverse Verticle Suplex from the top rope.

And while ChrisMWaters mentioned Brock could be the next Yoko, being the next Vader would be much better. And was surprised to hear about Sasaki--most of what I know him from are video games (Fire Pro, VPW), and I know he was a Road Warrior and uses the Northern Lights Bomb. Oh, and his wife is Akira Hokuto. However, SK badmouthed him so I had no idea he was any good or not.
Guest suckfreecomix Posted October 18, 2002 Report Posted October 18, 2002 I need to see the upcoming buyrate for No Mercy. I NEED IT.

Brock COULD BE the next Vader mixed with touches of Kurt Angle, but they're too worried about injuries. Fuck the WWE, fuck them up their stupid asses.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Well the fact that Taker played a huge part of the show and the main event was a stupid interview, and there was really only the Tag Matches which were good matches, I cant say Im surprised that it went down.
Guest AndrewTS Posted October 19, 2002 Report Posted October 19, 2002 Brock wouldn't have to be uber-stiff to pull off good impressive-looking offense. That's part of what made Vader look so good, but it isn't essential.
