Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Recap Of Paul Bearer & Jerry Lawler On Syracure Radio Show DATE: Saturday, November 2nd, 2002 HOST: Ariel Helwani SHOW: The Main Event, which can be heard Saturday Mornings, 9AM-11AM at http://werw.syr.edu/ Last week, The Main Event conducted an interview with one of the greatest managers in the business, Bobby The Brain Heenan. This week, we get yet another interview with a manager, this time it's Bill Moody, a.k.a. Paul Bearer's turn to talk. Having left WWE a little over two weeks ago, Paul had alot on his mind. Here's a complete recap: - Paul gives us an update on his wife's condition: shes doing very well and the breast cancer is in remission. - Talks about his departure: in July 2001, his wife was diagnossed with breast cancer, and he was advised by the WWF to go home. Fast forward to now, and he was working as a road agent right before his departure late last month. Says that he was home watching WWE on television and started losing his passion for business after seeing how the product looked from a different perspective. Adds that the WWE offered him a new contract, and that Vince told him that as long as he wanted job, he had one. Paul decided that 12 years was enough and that he needed to move on. - Paul says that if he was still under contract, he'd ask for his release. He says that he is very upset about these past weeks' storylines. - Calls Kane his brother and says that he never thought he'd see the day when he'd actually be happy not to be working for Vince. Said he's been in controversial storylines before, but never in storylines this bad. Paul adds that he had tickets for a RAW taping very recently and gave them to his friend, who also happens to have a young son. When he saw the product on TV, he called later that night and apologized for the content that was shown. This is AFTER his contract expired. - Paul says he's seen Vince tear up scripts 5 minutes before the show went on the air. He adds that Vince is responsible for the product that is aired and that hopefully this whole non-sense will be dropped very soon. - Paul says he's talked to Kane recently and Kane is extremely unconfortable about being in this storyline, but can't refuse for obvious reasons. Paul says that even with the mask on, he could tell that Kane was unconfortable when he was "accused of murder" on RAW. - Praises Triple H and Stephanie McMahon as being good people. He says that no one from the McMahons called when his contract ended except for Stephanie, and that he's known her since she was 13. - Lack of competition is McMahon's biggest problem, according to Paul. Host asks if NWA TNA has a viable chance of succeeding. Paul says he watches the product and likes what he sees. Paul adds that he has no interest in joining the promotion, despite being able to do so. - Paul talks about his contractual freedom and how happy he is for the first time in 12 years. He says his website will be up soon (http://www.percypringle.com). - The original idea was for Vince to buy WCW and keep it separate from the WWF, but was unable to do it when the networks wouldn't give him TV time. - Calls the Smackdown show better than the RAW show. - Says that the WCW purchase was a bargain for Vince. Paul adds that the tape library alone was worth the price of purchase. - The topic changes to World Class Championship Wrestling and Percy Pringle's creation in 1978. Paul says he was a big fan of the promotion even before he started wrestling/managing in it. Talks about how sad he is that they're going to tear down the Dallas Sportatorium. Goes on to talk about "The Dallas Sportatorium's curse" which started when Gino Hernandez died. Says it all went to hell after that with the deaths of the Von Erichs, right up to the recent death of Terry Gordy. - Paul's hero is Bobby Heenan. He says that he loves the guy and that he wishes him a speedy recovery. - They talk about Rick Rude (Paul managed him in 1985 in Florida). Host talks about how Bobby Heenan said that he didn't enjoy managing Rude and Paul says that he was shocked to read that in Bobby's book. Says he won't comment on that since he wasn't there to see what was going on between the two. - Paul tells us how he lost everything when WCCW and then USWA went out of business and how we called Rick Rude telling him how he was ready to quit the biz. Rick Rude gave Paul Vince's home number and immediately got flown to Stanford for a meeting. The next week, he had a job in the greatest wrestling company in North America. - Paul is a real mortician and has a degree in that field and used to be a real funeral director. He also says that he currently still owns a business. This was very important in getting Paul his job as manager of The Undertaker. - Paul says that Undertaker should retire now. Adds that Undertaker always wanted to go out as the "Deadman." - Points out Undertaker's first match against Hulk Hogan in 1991 as the one with the most importance to him. - Talks about the crucifying angle with Stephanie McMahon in 1999 and Paul says that he was a little unconfortable at the time, but compared to what's happening in wrestling today, he's not anymore. - Host asks Paul about Kane and Paul says that he first spotted Glen Jacobs in Smokey Mountain Wrestling back in 1993 as "The Unibomber." They recommended him to Vince soon thereafter and Vince brought him in as Dr. Isaac Yankem, DDS. - Paul says that Ric Flair is the greatest world champion of all time. He adds that belts don't mean anything nowadays (which the host rightfully agrees with), and that Flair was the last real champion in this sport. Paul thinks that Flair should retire from wrestling, but should stick around in the business in another role. - Thoughts on Mick Foley: Paul says he's a great guy, but those risks that he was taking were just too much. Says how fun it was to go to work, knowing that Mick would be in the lockeroom. Commends Mick on refusing to do Byte This a few weeks ago due to WWE's god awful product. - Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith are dubbed the best ribbers of all time by Paul. Goes on to say that the day they lost Owen was one of the hardest days of his life and he has never forgotten. - The topic of Bret Hart's screwjob is brought up (the host is from Montreal) and Paul says that he always thought it was a work that went bad. - Paul goes out giving us a classic "OHHHHHHHHHH YEEEHESS", even though he adds that he might not be allowed to do so legally. Paul says that host Ariel Helwani is a class act and the host thanks Paul for being on the show. End of show. Great hearing Bill Moody speak again and giving his real opinions on the current state of wrestling. It seemed like Bill wanted to focus more on his happy memories of the fed, which is pretty refreshing considering how bitter most ex-WWF employees turn out. Recap Of Jerry Lawler on Syracuse Radio DATE: Saturday, November 2nd, 2002 HOST: Ariel Helwani SHOW: The Main Event, which can be heard Saturday Mornings, 9AM-11AM at http://werw.syr.edu/ It was an incredible Saturday morning as I had the pleasure of listening to two interviews with 2 of the biggest personalities in the business. And all this brought to you from The Main Event Wrestling show which, if you haven't already, you showed really check out. Saturday Mornings, 9AM-11AM at http://werw.syr.edu/. - Host asks Lawler about the whole state of WWE. Lawler stalls and doesn't know what to say. He then says that the wrestling itself is always the same, and that the only thing that changes is the storyline aspect of the show. He then goes on to say that the bookers try hard to give fans storylines that they feel they will enjoy. Jerry says that alot of people hated the whole necrophilia angle, but alot of people liked it too. (KOSTA'S NOTE: Funny, ratings were down this week.) - Jerry says he has no problem with sharing his commentating duties with Michael Cole and TAZZ on Pay Per Views, since he still gets the same amount of money. Talks about how hard it was to be out there for 3 straight hours commentating. Jerry talks about how he hates the fact that alot of people don't catch Smackdown. He adds that only half the country has cable and that those people can't catch RAW. Lucky bastards... - Host asks Jerry about how he feels about the commentating table being moved next to the ramp. Jerry says that he hates the fact that they're right next to the pyro. He says that he's been flashed alot and that he's seen alot of puppies lately. - Topic switches over to Steve Austin's departure from the WWF. Lawler talks about Steve's hiatus after WrestleMania and how unhappy he was with the creative team. Jerry hasn't spoken to Austin personally since his departure, but has spoken to Jim Ross about the whole subject. Jim Ross has admitted to Jerry that he regrets the way he handled the whole situation. Jerry believes that Austin will be back. - Ric Flair's name is thrown and Jerry thinks that he should stay in the business. He goes on to praise Flair for his charisma and his contributions to the sport, and says that he does very well for his age. Lawler echoes the same sentiments for Hulk Hogan and says that Hogan was not used properly. - Lawler talks about Eric Bischoff's return and how shocked he was to see those two shaking hands and hugging after all the animosity that they had for each other. Jerry says that backstage, Eric keeps to himself alot. - Jerry's departure from the fed in 2001 is discussed and Jerry says that he STILL doesn't know why they fired his ex-wife. He goes on to discuss the events of that day and says that there were times when he thought that he would never be back. - Jerry says that he rarely speaks to Stacy anymore. He thinks that Stacy's firing from the WWF caused a big rift in their marriage. - Host asks Lawler on his thoughts about what his son Brian said about him on NWA TNA. Jerry says that he didn't take those comments seriously and that it's all business. - Jerry thinks that people are making too big a deal of this necrophilia angle. He goes on to explain to the fans that no actual necrophilia took place. He goes on to bash fans and says that they should wise up and realize that it's all fake. So Jerry thinks that the fans are pissed off about the whole angle because THEY THINK THAT TRIPLE H ACTUALLY RAPED A DEAD BODY?!? Gimme a break. - Owen Hart's death is discussed and Jerry says he's one of the few people who actually saw Owen die in front of his very eyes. Jerry and JR were looking at the monitors while Owen was falling, but happened to see Owen falling on the turnbuckle from 7 feet in the air. Owen's arm actually hit referee Jim Kordera's head while he was falling. Jerry was in shock and immediately got up and ran to tend to Owen. He says that Owen died instantly because of a ruptured aorta. Jerry didn't think that Owen was dead, but when they removed the mask and Jerry saw his face turning blue, he knew what everyone feared. 45 minutes later, word officially came that Owen had passed away, even though Jerry already knew. Jerry adds that fans thankfully didn't get to see Owen fall because of the dark arena. No one backstage believed that Owen died, and they just thought that he would recover and everything would be okay. - We change to a happier subject now as Jerry discusses his feud with Andy Kaufman. Jerry says that Andy idolized Buddy Rogers as a young boy, and when he became a popular celebrity, he jumped at the chance to wrestle in front of an audience. Vince McMahon Senior refused Andy's idea, so Andy got in touch with Jerry Lawler in Memphis, and the rest unfolded from there. Jerry doesn't like the way he was portrayed in the movie "Man On The Moon." Jerry says that Andy was not the nutcase that he was portrayed as in the movie, and the timeline was way off. The host is about to ask more questions on the subject until Jerry reminds him that his book is coming out soon. - Host Ariel The Franchise brings up the whole ECW Invasion of 1997 and Jerry says that it was supposed to be alot more elaborate than what it turned out to be but got cut short due to a bunch of people's huge ego's. - Jerry talks about the XFL and says that he wasn't that crazy about calling football games because he's not a fan. Jerry thinks that it failed because NBC took too much control and ruined Vince's plans. - Jerry says that he never reads 1wrestling.com because HE CAN'T STAND THE POP UP ADS. - Host asks Jerry what he thinks about people's critisisms about the whole use of the word "Puppies." Jerry asks himself why people are pissed about the whole thing. "Are these people fags?" he asks. Yeah, because THAT will help him convince the fans. End of show. Jerry's credibility will never be the same... Credit: 411Wrestling.com
Guest Anglesault Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 I always liked Paul Bearer. I'd actually like to see him come back one more time.

Guest Anglesault Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 I guess because we hate hearing him scream, we hate seeing them.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Paul says he's seen Vince tear up scripts 5 minutes before the show went on the air. He adds that Vince is responsible for the product that is aired and that hopefully this whole non-sense will be dropped very soon. I always thought this was E-Bullshit and more of a joke when I've read it on News/Rumor sites. I never thought Vince would be this Stupid. No wonder all the guys on Raw look lost all the time.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Jerry says that he never reads 1wrestling.com because HE CAN'T STAND THE POP UP ADS. Well I have to commend Lawler on something.
Guest jester Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 - Paul gives us an update on his wife's condition: shes doing very well and the breast cancer is in remission. Good thing Paul and Lawler weren't interviewed together. At the mention of breast cancer it would have been "Breast? Puppies! Puppies! Puppies Paul! Puppies!"
Guest HartFan86 Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Owen's arm actually hit referee Jim Kordera's head while he was falling. You learn something new everyday.
Guest CanadianChick Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 After reading jerry's interview, I must say that he is the biggest yes-man ever. Does the man have any spine at all?
Guest teke184 Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 I think he'd have to ask Vince before he could answer that question...
Guest bob_barron Posted November 2, 2002 Report Posted November 2, 2002 Said he's been in controversial storylines before, but never in storylines this bad. This is the guy- Who called the Undertaker a murderer and accused of him killing his parents and stuff. w/ Kane- put him in a casket and set him on fire. Lit the Undertaker's mothers casket on fire. Cruicified Stone Cold Steve Austin. Tried to embalm SCSA. Helped in the kidnapping of Stephanie, crucified her and almost had her married to the Undertaker. I don't know- he sounds a bit hypocritical there
