Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 The UK's Telegraph is reporting today that the charity formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund is taking World Wrestling Entertainment back to court claiming damages over how WWE used (and the other WWF claims abused) the WWF name. The Fund is claiming that WWE caused extensive damage to its brand by using the WWF name illegally. As the Telegraph wrote, "The WWF confirmed last week that a formal claim for damages was pending, even though a legal battle over the use of the 'WWF' initials was settled in June in the charity's favour." Earlier this year, a British court ruled that the wrestling company violated an agreement made with the wildlife organization as to how the WWF name would be used, leading the wrestling company to change their name to WWE. The paper also wrote that WWE is very upset about the wildlife group's claim against them, calling it "offensive" and saying that it's "unprecedented for a charity to be engaged in". A spokesman for the wildlife group wouldn't say how much they were suing for, but did say that they would consider a settlement offer. Credit: 1wrestling.com Here we go again.......

Guest goodhelmet Posted November 10, 2002 Report Posted November 10, 2002 ok, here is the deal... i know it may be hard to accept but if the wwe cut every good worker on thier roster, i wouldn't give a shit. why? because there are so many wrestling alternatives out there, it' sickening. sure, we have all grown accustomed to bitching about the shows on monday and thursday nights. we bitch about steph and trips and taker and big slow and brock (although i don't know why). but there is a life of wrestling outside of the fed. ROH has put on great show after great show the entire year. The occasional blowaway puro match still gets thrown our way. nwa has just been bought and may become more readily available. i haven't watched RAW in amost three months now. keep in mind that until this summer, i haven't missed raw in almost three years!!!! the fed is not the be-all end-all to your wrestling fix and if vince gets sued or does massive roster cuts, fear not. any excellent wrestler who finds themselves jobless will get picked up somewhere, somehow. hell, all of the shitty wrestlers can find work, i think the good ones will be just fine.

Why do that when all these wildlife assholes wanted was some money tossed their way to begin with? That is exactly what Vince should have done, thrown them some money and told them to shut the fuck up. They didn't want the WWF to change its name, they wanted money. They didn't get the money so now they are back and after it.

He had no choice but to make the name change, since he violated an agreement that allowed them to keep the WWF name for North American use only. The World Wildlife Fund was using the initials long before wrestling, and probably could have taken them back long before they did, but gave him a chance. He blew it. And let's get real, who does the general public have more sympathy for? A world-reknown charity that protects wildlife, or a millionaire wrestling promoter who loves his evil capitalist image? Vince should know that he can't beat these guys, so he should have made them as happy as possible. Now they have the initials, and they want damages. Now Vince will get to go to another shareholders meeting and downplay yet another lawsuit, and brag that he doesn't care what Wall Street thinks. Wall Street will say "Yeah, we noticed," and dump more WWE stock. Good one Vince. You're a genius.

Isnt it totaly obvious they only want money. If they thought the letters WWF so so damaged, why did they want them back so bad in the first place?
