Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 13, 2002 Report Posted November 13, 2002 Smackdown Paul Heyman and Big Show had the first of their many backstage segments of the night. Heyman said Brock wasn't showing up tonight, because he has to heal up from last thursday's attack from Show. Show told him he'd be calling him out in case he showed up. (1) Edge pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Edgecution. Very good match that went about 8 minutes. Rey Mysterio was interviewed by Mark Lloyd. Rey said he was happy to be a tag champion with Edge, and started to cut a promo on his opponent for tonight, Eddy Guerrero, when Brock Lesnar arrived in the building to interrupt the segment. Brock and Rey exchanged pleasantries, and that ended the segment. Dawn Marie and Al Wilson were shown backstage. Al was reading a wedding magazine, and they started professing their love for each other. Dawn suggested inviting Torrie to the wedding and even gave Al an invitation to give to Torrie. Al was reluctant at first, but agreed to talk to Torrie about it. Heyman and Brock were shown backstage in their locker room. Paul was upset that Lesnar showed up tonight and was also upset that Brock won't listen to him anymore. Paul told him that he has an idea to get them out of the predicament they are in. (2) Matt Hardy & John Cena beat Tajiri & Rikishi when Hardy planted Tajiri with a spinning DDT in the middle of the ring. A lot worse than you'd think, considering Hardy & Tajiri had that real good TV match on Halloween night. Lots of screwups, mostly by John Cena, who looked particularly bad tonight. The finish was weak, it'll be interesting to see how they edit this one. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit had a funny backstage argument where they each blamed the other for losing the tag titles. They decided to settle in the ring who is the better wrestler. Another Scott Steiner video aired. Paul Heyman goes to Big Show's locker room and asks him to back off until the Survivor Series. Big Show says he'll think about it. (3) Eddy Guerrero defeated Rey Mysterio with the El Passo Lasso with his hand on the rope. Very long and excellent tv match. At one point there was a ref bump when Rey accidentally 619'd the ref. Chavo and Edge ran in, and were eventually separated by the refs and escorted to the back, which I believe is where they took a commercial break. Finishing sequence saw Rey attempt a springboard sunset flip, which Eddy rolled through into the submission and Rey tapped. Torrie and Al have their talk. Torrie doesn't want to go to the wedding and tells Al that he is being played, with the line "there's no fool like an old fool" and walks out on her Dad. (4) Billy Kidman beat Jamie Noble in a non-title match when Kidman rolled through a top rope superplex and cradled him for the upset. Short, albeit solid match with no heat. Brock and Heyman backstage again. Heyman tells Brock to pack his bags, that they are going home. Brock declines, saying he is going to call the Big Show out. (5) Kurt Angle fought Chris Benoit to a no contest when Edge and Rey Mysterio started brawling with Los Guerreros. Very good while it lasted, but it lacked heat and ended abruptly. In a pre-match promo, Angle had invited the other 2 tag teams to sit at ringside so they could "scout" him for this Sunday's 3 way tag match. He said he'd prove he's the best wrestler in the business today. Early in the match, Benoit threw Angle onto Edge & Rey, who were sitting in chairs outside the ring. Biggest pop came at the end when all 3 teams started brawling like crazy. Crowd didn't care too much about the chain wrestling, but got into the post-match activities. Lots of reversal sequences at the end between all 3 teams, ending when Angle had an ankle lock on Eddy, while simultaneously Benoit had the crossface on Edge. Angle and Benoit were about to go at it, when Angle convinced Benoit to shake his hand. In a funny moment, he tried to get a hug, but Benoit would have none of it. The show ends with Brock calling out the Big Show. Eventually, Big Show comes out and after some brawling at ringside, Lesnar gets a chair from under the ring and absolutely wallops Show in the face about 3 times. These were stiff and I mean stiff shots. He also got nailed in the arm by one of the shots. Show juiced a major league gusher, to the point that people thought Show had broken his arm. The chair got dented big time in the process. I don't know if it was great selling by Show or a legit injury, but his arm looked messed up from what I saw. Brock posed with the belt at the top of the ramp and the show was over. Overall, I thought it was another strong show from Smackdown. It was a lot better than Raw in Cincinnati, that's for sure. 3 really good singles matches, and a violent angle to end the show. -------------------------- I'm intrigued to see Rey/Eddy.
